The Mayen is situated in beautiful scenery. The views are spectacular and it was peacefully quiet. I can imagine in winter it being very picturesque with the snow. The Mayen is about 200m from the main road down what I would describe as a farm track (loose gravel road). I have a 4 wheel drive SUV and managed no problem to reach the property to unload baggage in August. However due to the gradient an average family car might struggle with ground clearance and grip, so would advise against taking your car to the property to unload. There's well sign posted parking bays about 3 to 5min walk along the public road. The Mayen is modern inside, the lights were cleverly installed into the window frames and walls. It is deceiving large inside, from the photos and outside it looks small but we were surprised how spacious it actually was. The 2 bedrooms are large with double beds, they were really comfortable and power shower was excellent. The kitchen was well equipped but did not have a kettle or microwave. The water heating is generated by a pellet boiler stove in the lounge, this is an automatic stove and does not require any attention from yourself. It was great to watch the natural flames as it burnt the pellets to heat the water. It is a really modern stove and quiet, however in summer we found the lounge/kitchen room a little too warm. It might be better if the host could install some discrete fly screens into the window frames so they could be left open to cool the lounge. The wifi worked great in the lounge/kitchen area, although wifi signal did not reach down into the lower rooms. I think this is because the router is situated in the upper (open plan) level where there is space for 6 to 8 to sleep. We really enjoyed our time at the Mayen, the host is excellent, commucated very quickly and sent instructions direct to my email address.
