  • The casita in the Ojai Valley was a perfect weekend get-away. My husband and I planned an active weekend of hiking and biking and we wanted a place with a pool--the house was located on the outskirts of town on a quiet, tree-lined road. Biking was easy and safe. The house was also close to the Horn Canyon Trail (accessed through the Thacher School grounds), which had lots of shade and a beautiful creek running next to the trail. Maida told us about the trail. She was very friendly while still giving us our privacy. The casita was very comfortable--calm green interior paint, fully appointed kitchen, with a lovely porch perfect for early morning reading or late afternoon lounging.

  • Casa Ojai was a beautiful and tranquil place to stay. I was unfortunately in town for my brothers funeral so I wish I was acually up there to relax but what time I did have Maida and her boys made it very comfortable and nice for me and my guests. The place was very clean and I would absolutely return there if I stay in Ojai again!

  • We visited Ojai to look at real estate in the beautiful East End, only a mile away from Casita Ojai. The Casita was lovely, relaxing and super clean. Maida left us fresh eggs from her chickens and we made pancakes twice. Very low key and friendly atmosphere. We recommend it very highly.

My Cuban and Chinese roots has brought me to my beliefs that once you have shared a meal and stayed with me as a guest, you are inducted into " la familia". I have merged the intellectually curious and creative spirit of my Berkeley upbringing, the pura vida and Buddhist philosophies of my ancestors, and the movable feast lifestyle of my past travels.into my existence in Ojai. My last 17 years in Ojai have been incredibly joyful watching my three children evolve beautifully into young adults. I have had the pleasure of being involved in a health centered profession for over 26 years and now I'm penning my next chapter 2. I see travels again in the near future, physically and mentally challenging myself by getting out of my comfort zone, and actually completing a work of art I can be proud enough to hang, so many goals...... When I came onto my property in Ojai, I immediately dove into harvesting my olives to jar, making supplies of plum jam, baked muffins with fresh picked black berries, growing the "wow" organic garden, picking my table grapes off my vines, drying the lavender and rosemary on the property. Now I revel in the pleasure of watching natures creatures and visitors to my home enjoy the gifts of the fruits and flowers. Most of my weekly planning involves who to entertain and what seasonal fare we are to enjoy! The diversity of friends I am bless to call family provides me with the evening of entertainment. I'm am happily spoiled. As a creative and spiritual outlet I have opened my home and property to invite the alternative traveler into my world. I have designed and furnished my special spaces to be welcoming and peaceful. What I desire for my guests is to appreciate the natural surroundings of their stay, to embrace the peacefulness here to quiet their minds, to desire nothing because it's provided for them while they are here, and to leave with an authentic experience of Ojai to look upon until their next visit to my home. As a traveler I prefer the more authentic road less traveled route. Immersing myself as the locals do. I'm adventurous in the gastronomy department. Side street food sellers, farmers markets and food trucks hold a special place in my heart! Next to traveling to experience local food is inhaling it's art history, theater arts, music and movement. My most fondest travel memories are of the people I have connected with along the way, whose homes I have stayed in and of being invited to share a meal with. That's a huge for me. In answering the question of the 5 things you can't live without that's hard to list just 5. To start it would be natures natural sounds, the changing colors of the sky at sunset and sunrise, the sounds of music and voracious laughter, the company and embraces of those close to my heart.
