Great location
100% of recent guests gave the location a 5-star rating.
Bring your friends and your tent or hammock! Primitive sites aren't designated - you can camp just about anywhere on our hundred acre farm, but each "site" is a maximum of 2 tents and 6 people ($5 extra/person) Choose to stay close to the kitchen and bath-house or hike up the mountain for privacy and seclusion. Campers can use the large, communal fire pit near the pavilion or bring a portable, above-ground version. Wood can be gathered for free from the forest or purchased in bundles. READ NOTE!

The space
NOTE: We're making improvements! As such, the Courtesy Kitchen will NOT be available to guests from November 1st until late spring/early summer of 2021 while we dismantle the old to make way for the new! Please plan to come self-sufficient for meals during this time.

HomeGrown HideAways is a hundred-acre farm, campground, and event facility with treehouses, yurts, cabins, camping, etc. The owners, Nathan & Jessa, live onsite with a parade of dogs, cats, chickens, and ducks so pets are not allowed.

In addition to year-round outhouses, there is a seasonal bath house open from April through October (as weather permits) and a communal kitchen area for cooking meals, brewing coffee, buying firewood or farm-fresh eggs. YOU MUST CLEAN UP AFTER YOURSELF.

The farm has a steep and rugged 1.5 mile hiking loop, small playground, yard games, and a creek full of geodes. We're also close to the hiking trails at the Berea Pinnacles and our friends at Get Outside Ky rent canoes and kayaks just 6 miles down the road.

We are a farm in the mountains so we have all the good (beautiful views, babbling brook, hiking trails) and the bad (insects, barking dogs, poison ivy) that nature has to offer so come prepared. We recommend hiking boots, bug spray, and jackets for cool nights. Be prepared to encounter INSECTS (mosquitoes, ticks, chiggers), WILDLIFE (deer, turkey, snakes, toads, and dare we mention the bear track we spotted one spring?), WEATHER (hot, cold, rain, snow), TOXIC PLANTS (poison ivy, stinging nettle, wild mushrooms), just to name a few.

Prepare to UNPLUG. There is no cell phone or internet reception at our place. Occasionally, some folks are able to catch a brief signal, but don't plan to have digital access. The closest place to get a decent signal is at the cemetery near the reservoir. There is a telephone you can use in our courtesy kitchen.

We live in a DRY county so if you enjoy an evening libation, you'll need to BYO.

Where you’ll be

Berea, Kentucky, United States

HomeGrown HideAways is on a narrow and curvy 2 mile dead-end road, nestled in the foothills of the Appalachians. Some folks aren't used to country roads, but just take it slow and arrive before dark whenever possible.

Madison County is DRY (as in - no alcohol). Berea is moist (drinks with dinner). Richmond is wet (packaged alcohol can be purchased, but not on Sunday).

Tater Knob Pottery is less than 2.5 miles from the farm. They're open Monday - Saturday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Closed New Year's Day, Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Get Outside Ky is 6 miles away and they rent canoes and kayaks for paddling around Owsley Fork Reservoir.

The hiking trails at the Berea Pinnacles are 8 miles away.

Anglin Falls is about 20 minutes away.

We are happy to provide you with directions and be sure to check out the guidebook for restaurant and shopping recommendations.

Prepare to UNPLUG. No cell service, no wifi, just nature (but you can easily find us on the world wide web)! HomeGrown HideAways is a hundred-acre holler near Berea, Ky. It is owned and operated by Nathan & Jessa Turner, Jessa's mom, and a variety of pets and wildlife. All guests have access to our Courtesy Kitchen which has a telephone, COFFEE, and all major appliances (oven, stove, fridge, microwave, coffee maker, sink, and a few dishes). It's nothing glamorous, but it can beat trying to cook on a fire in the rain! We'd definitely encourage you to go into Berea for some of the great food options there. We have a hiking trail, several fire pits, and are just 6 miles from Get Outside Ky where you can rent kayaks. We do not have tv, internet, or cell reception. There are as many stars as there are bugs so come prepared for both! The farm's bath house is open from April through October (or whenever temps remain above freezing for an extended period of time) and features 4 flush toilets and 2 solar-heated showers. Winter guests can use one of our three, luxurious outhouses, but won't have access to showers. We ask that you leave your pets at home, but you are welcome to snuggle ours. If you don't like dogs, our place may not be a good fit for you since our critters get pretty excited to meet new guests and may jump on you (we promise we're working on training). For those with service animals (ESAs are not allowed), please be aware that there are coyotes, hawks, and other wildlife that might be a danger and we cannot guarantee how our dogs might react to your assistant. Please chat with us ahead of time to make sure we're the right option for you. We love sharing our beautiful farm and hope you enjoy it as much as we do!

During your stay
When possible, we try to give a farm tour to all our guests when they arrive so they know where to find everything they might need (dishes, firewood, etc). After that, we generally leave you in peace unless you need something from us. We wake early and sleep early so knock loudly after 9 pm if you need assistance.

The residents of HomeGrown HideAways recognize that you're probably visiting our farm to escape the daily hustle and bustle of regular life and might be looking for some peace and quiet away from other humans. No worries! While you are likely to see residents puttering around the farm doing chores, you're under no obligation to make chit-chat with us (unless, of course, you need something). On the flip-side, we'll never turn away anyone that wants to keep us company while we weed the garden!

We are a working farm so sometimes you can expect to hear things like tractors, chainsaws, roosters, barking dogs, coyotes, etc. We can't do anything about the roosters or coyotes, but if you want a relaxing afternoon nap in the hammock, just let us know and we'll work on quieter chores.
