About this listing
Location is everything, with the sea on three sides, like an island, the light is amazing! The extreme age of the house makes it unique and its near The Old Head. Beaches, cafes and the village of Ballinspittle is only three miles away.
Situated 11 miles from Kinsale, we have panoramic views, 4 bedrooms, 2 toilets/showers, (but there is no bath) and the smallest bathroom you'll ever see! There is a fireplace with wood burner, ample parking, and super fast WIFI for multiple computers. It's basic, rustic and homey, and a bit crumbling at the 260 year old edges. The upstairs shower is tiny and we have spiders... also the cows in the surrounding fields can be noisy munching at night or bellowing to the farmer.
I live here with my adult daughter Lia, we are easy going, like meeting new people and speak German. Self catering, guests are welcome to use the kitchen and help themselves. Dogs are welcome.
There are activities available with private/public beaches in walking distance, surfing, kayaking, wind surfing, swimming and cliff walks. The Old Head golf club just up the road is ranked 4th in the world. 3 miles away is Ballinspittle, famous for the moving statue of Mary, there are 2 shops, a cafe, and artisan deli/bakery. Kinsale offers Charles Fort, built 1601, one of the oldest churches in Ireland, St Multose built in 1106, many restaurants, pubs, the ghost tour, shops, open air market, sheltered beach, as well as fishing and bikes to rent. Cork Airport/City is an easy distance of 20km from Kinsale town, with daily buses.
Thursdays there is a bus from Cork to Ballinspittle, and a Facebook page, Kinsale hitchhiker for shared lifts.
Guests have access to beautiful, sheltered and deserted private beaches in 15 minute walking vicinity, public beaches 10 minutes away, with kayaking, surfing, swimming, wind surfing. The Old Head of Kinsale is just up the road. The lovely village of Ballinspittle is 3 miles away for shopping, with a cafe and boutique deli
Interaction with Guests
I am happy to interact with guests. Children are welcome, we can put an extra mattress in the bedroom, and have slept 5 comfortably.
I love the light here, being so close to the sea means sometimes wild weather. An added bonus is a micro climate of sun sun sun a huge bonus in Ireland!
There is once a week public transport, taxis.
Other Things to Note
The house is old, and very exposed as we are so close to the sea, sometimes the weather is crazy! Did I mention the spiders, 3 small non shedding dogs and 2 cats? Guests should feel free to forage in the garden for herbs, or whatever is growing. Mi casa zu casa.
Smoking outside please, (or at least up the chimney). All garbage/rubbish is recycled. All food waste is for the compost. Bottles, tins, plastics go in recycle bin.
