We needed to arrive at 1 pm, drop off stuff and get key, since we wouldn't be back until near midnight that night. Gonzalo was there with the key, but also the prior guests were still there. That wasn't really a problem since we were going right out again, but there must have been a communication mix-up since Gonzalo seemed to think he had told us of this ahead of time (but I have no record of text or email from him). Still not really a problem. Apartment is exactly as pictured, clean, not cluttered, adequate for a brief stay, and VERY close to the subway which makes it extremely convenient to great parts of town, village, Chinatown, etc. Only problem was that when we returned near midnight, folded sheets were on bed, and so we needed to make it--that would have been okay but the fitted sheet was for a single bed, and we were trying to make a double bed! Didn't want to bother Gonzalo at midnight, so made do by using comforter as bottom sheet--it was warm enough that we didn't need a comforter on top. Otherwise, it is a good place for a brief stay when you are on a budget.
Interior is clean and well kept with plenty of space. Picked up and dropped off keys at nearby laundromat without issue. Neighbourhood felt safe even though front entrance looks a bit ghetto.
Very good stay. Location is perfect. The place has all conveniences, but no view. Being on the ground floor made opening the windows a noisy proposition with AC's right outside. The apartment is very clean, but the mattress is a bit thin for those with back problems. Overall good value for money.
I stayed here over Memorial Day weekend. The apartment is in a great location--lots of trains around and easy walking distance to Chinatown, Little Italy, and SoHo. I met Gonzalo at his job to get the keys--easy and painless pick up and drop off. He left beer in the fridge which was very kind. I had a couple requests for the apartment when I checked in and he responded promptly and stopped by the next day to provide me with what I needed. The apartment is small--I'd say 4 people could sleep here max, two if you really want everyone to be comfortable. It's not really a place to "hang out"--I'd put this in the category of a place to "lay your head", so if you're looking for something that has more communal space for gathering with friends, look elsewhere. The hot water and water pressure were very good. The apartment was clean, but minimally appointed. If you care about things like having towels, washcloths, and pillowcases, not having to put sheets on the bed yourself, and having hand soap in the bathroom, you might not want to stay here. However if you're a low maintenance person, this is a great little place.
Gonzalo was an excellent and accommodating host. Our travel plans changed abruptly partway through our stay, and he graciously let us leave our bags in the apartment for longer than we planned. The apartment itself was a quiet and clean retreat from the city. We would stay here again without hesitation and highly recommend it to any other visitors.
We really liked staying at Gonzalo's place. The locations is great: right in the middle of Chinatown, close to Grand St (Line B & D). The apartment comfortably accommodates three people and the sleeping room is very quiet with no street noises. We were four people staying there. Even though it worked with four, it felt a little cramped and there is noise from the hallway that may bother those sleeping in the living room. Also, the sleeping couch in the living room is not very comfortable since a third of the lying surface is wood (it may be worth bringing an sleeping pad).
However, Gonzalo was a very responsive host answering our questions very quickly and the check-in/check-out was very easy, too. The place was nice and clean, we were provided with enough towels, blankets and two sets of keys.
For up to three people I highly recommend this place. Even it being a bit crowded, given the location and the cleanliness I recommend the place for a group of four people as long as you plan to use it purely for sleeping and spent all day outside the apartment doing sightseeing, shopping etc.
Gonzalo was a great host! The apartment was very cute and clean. The location was right in Chinatown and close to the subway and walk able to many locations around Manhattan. I definitely recommend.
The apartment was clean and equipped. Communication with the host was quick and smooth. Location of the apartment is nice if you want to see all of Manhattan.
Gonzalo was super flexible with our check in and a great host. We didn't meet him, but he was communicative over text.
The location of this place is great, so much within walking distance. The space is cute and cozy and has all of your basic needs. If you're planning on being out and about for most of the day and you're just looking for place to crash, this is definitely a great option!
Wonderful experience! The apartment was immaculate. The apartment is like an oasis amidst the grungy, gritty, sensory overload that is Chinatown (although I personally enjoy Chinatown for this exact reason). You walk up to the outside door of the building, and you'd suspect that the apartment inside is something similar to the feel of outside Chinatown. But, as they say, looks are deceiving - the apartment is completely renovated with a clean, minimalist feel. Very quiet and clean even if the outside is not. A perfect place to just relax and recuperate after long days of exploring the city.
