The Space

If you are looking for an authentic experience living as a local in Europe’s most enchanting city, then look no further! Our beautiful home is in the heart of Barcelona’s most desirable neighbourhood, El Born, and offers you all this and so much more. Having just been fully renovated in July 2013, this newly revived apartment is the perfect hideaway from which you can explore the delights of this incredible area and the rest of the city. From first time visitors, to those who know Barcelona intimately, there is simply no better place to stay!

The charismatic and charming El Born neighbourhood is magical. From the small winding streets to the large squares where people go for lunch or dinner, it is undoubtedly the best place to spend your holiday in Barcelona. Our apartment is situated on a particularly historical street, only a few metres from the phenomenal Santa Maria del Mar church, and a stone’s throw from the Gothic neighbourhood. Within a 5-10 minute walk you have the beaches, the port, the stunning Ciutadella park and the city centre. You also have dozens of bus stops (including the tourist hop-on, hop-off bus), three metro stations and the international train station Franca within a 5 minute walk as well as the best shops, restaurants, bars and cafes in Barcelona just a few metres away.

Our apartment is a spacious (for this area!) 50m2, with a view on to one of the most sought-after streets in the neighbourhood; famous for its long history with wine merchants and artisans. The building itself is straight out of the medieval history books – with a tiny 50cm wide front door and narrow winding staircase. Thankfully the apartment is on the first floor so there aren’t many stairs to deal with! The street is pedestrianised (except for limited access to delivery vans), so is peaceful throughout the day and night.

With 3.5 metre high ceilings, the living/dining room to the front of the apartment is light and airy. It has large French doors and a wide balcony complete with table and chairs; perfect for sipping on an evening sangria and watching the world go by. There is a sofa bed for additional guests who wish to stay (to be made up on request), meaning the apartment can potentially sleep up to four people. There is also a fast and secure wifi internet connection exclusively for guests' use.

There is a good sized kitchen which comes fully equipped with pots and pans, crockery and utensils, an electric oven, gas hobs, a brand new fridge/freezer and washing machine which you are welcome to use. We provide the basic essentials such as tea and coffee, olive oil, salt, pepper, etc, and even a nice bottle of Spanish Rioja on arrival (if you prefer white wine/cava/something soft, please tell me and I will provide!)

The centre of the apartment has a very unusual ‘outdoor’ patio area, which we have decked out to become an interior garden. Somewhere to relax a while, read a book or just hang your washing! Within this area you will find the typically tiny Spanish bathroom – complete with shower, toilet and sink.

The bedroom is to the rear of the property and although it doesn’t have any windows, we find this a huge advantage because you get such a peaceful night’s sleep. There is an amazingly comfortable double bed with brand new mattress, lots of storage space and hanging space for clothes.

Both the living room and bedroom have separate remote controlled air conditioning units – perfect for the summer months when you need to escape from the hot sunshine outside!

As your host, I am here to look after you during your stay and make you feel at home. I will provide a list of personal recommendations and insights on where to go and what to do in the neighbourhood, as well as the latest city magazines so you can keep up to date with what’s going on while you are here. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to get in touch! :)

  • Sarah was a great host and the apt. was lovely. The location was wonderful. There were three of us so it was a bit tight but it all worked out well. This apt. would be perfect for a couple. The bathroom is a little small but very functional. Sarah was prompt and very helpful. We rented bikes for the week and were able to leave them chained up right outside making our vacation very easy. A short walk from the train station made our arrival to Barcelona effortless.

  • Lovely flat in great location. Very enjoyable!

  • The most outstanding feature of Sarah's El Born flat is absolutely the location. My husband & I walked the entire city & by the end agreed that neighborhood & specific location if this rental could not have been more ideal. The flat is located steps away from the Santa Maria Del Mar cathedral, easy access to the metro, with fantastic restaurants & bars & truly interesting boutiques tucked around every corner. We enjoyed the terrace which opened onto the street but since the bedroom is at the back if the flat weren't at all disturbed by the night owl commotion on the streets below. The bed also is outstandingly comfortable. You should be mindful that this flat is in a very old building so there are space limitations in the bathroom. The shower in particular is a tight squeeze. Sarah gave us the BEST & most thorough list of recommendations for eateries & to-dos that we have ever received in traveling.

  • It was my first experience using Airbnb and I couldn't have been happier with my host, the accommodation and the location. I was staying in Barcelona on my own and felt very secure in Sarah's apartment and really pleased with with where it was situated. Close enough to everything but not noisy. Not only was I opposite an amazing deli/food store but also a great wine shop.
Our liaison re keys etc was seamless. Sarah is funky, fun, personable and professional.
The apartment is not big but it doesn't purport to be. Shower is pretty small and probably wouldn't suit a 6ft 4" person!
I would stay there again. Barcelona is FABULOUS!

  • Sarah was a great host and made our first experience with airbnb a great one. She was extremely friendly and greeted us with a big welcoming smile even though we were late. She had a bunch of helpful trips, and sent us a long list of recommendations of what to see, where to eat, and a list of the popular local hangout spots. It was really easy to communicate with Sarah and she was very quick with responding to emails.

The apartment was spotless and bright, exactly like the photos. The location of the apartment was perfect - LOVE the neighborhood. If felt like we were in the center of everything, and living off a main street was definitely a plus – it made it easier to find the apartment. Having AC in both the bedroom and living room was also nice, and the free wifi made it so much easier to research and plan out our days.

The only things that took a bit to get use to but aren't deal breakers was the small shower and no wifi in the bedroom. The shower was definitely a smaller than what we were use to. My boyfriend had some difficulty fitting in the shower (he's 6 ft tall) but we managed. And even though the wifi doesn't reach the bedroom, I actually thought this was more of a plus. I have a tendency to stay up late playing on my phone but since the wifi didn’t reach the room, I slept earlier and had more energy during the day. The wifi works perfectly in the living room. We had 4 devices connected to the wifi at one time and did not have any problems.

  • Sarah' apartment was nice and cosy. It was close to everything. There are wonderful tapas and ice cream shops within walking distance of the apartment.
The apartment was clean and tidy and we were greeted with a warm hug from Sarah on arrival.
Only issue was the shower. It was small but expected for this location due to the existing building.
Overall I would recommend this apartment.

  • Our first Barcelona and Airbnb experience was staying at Sarah's El Born apartment. Fantastic location...why would you stay anywhere else? It was compact and comfortable and we were even supplied coffee & toiletries. Unfortunately we didn't meet Sarah but her partner Chris waited for our late arrival and was very gracious about it. We LOVED being so close to everything and would wholeheartedly recommend Sarah's apartment.

  • From the moment we arrived, we knew we lucked out with the perfect apartment in the perfect location to explore Barcelona!
Sarah met us upon arrival with her friendly smile and provided us with a long list of her favorite bakeries,Tapas bars, mercados. and activities. I think we tried every one on the list and loved every one!
If you want to have an instant local connection to Barcelona in the best location ever, stay with Sarah! She has many other connections which made our vacation so very smooth and memorable! We feel so very fortunate to have found Sarah and her beautiful apartment!
Hope to see you in Hawaii!
