About this listing

The space

If you are looking for an authentic experience living as a local in Europe’s most enchanting city, then look no further! Our beautiful home is in the heart of Barcelona’s most desirable neighbourhood, El Born, and offers you all this and so much more. This newly revived apartment is the perfect hideaway from which you can explore the delights of this incredible area and the rest of the city. From first time visitors, to those who know Barcelona intimately, there is simply no better place to stay!

The charismatic and charming El Born neighbourhood is magical. From the small winding streets to the large squares where people go for lunch or dinner, it is undoubtedly the best place to spend your holiday in Barcelona. Our apartment is situated on a particularly historical street, only a few metres from the phenomenal Santa Maria del Mar church, and a stone’s throw from the Gothic neighbourhood. Within a 5-10 minute walk you have the beaches, the port, the stunning Ciutadella park and the city centre. You also have dozens of bus stops (including the tourist hop-on, hop-off bus), three metro stations and the international train station Franca within a 5 minute walk as well as the best shops, restaurants, bars and cafes in Barcelona just a few metres away.

Our apartment is a spacious (for this area!) 50m2, with a view on to one of the most sought-after streets in the neighbourhood; famous for its long history with wine merchants and artisans. The building itself is straight out of the medieval history books – with a tiny 50cm wide front door and narrow winding staircase. Please be aware of this if coming with large and heavy bags! Thankfully the apartment is on the first floor so there aren’t many stairs to deal with! The street is pedestrianised (except for limited access to delivery vans), so is peaceful throughout the day and night.

With 3.5 metre high ceilings, the living/dining room to the front of the apartment is light and airy. It has large French doors and a wide balcony complete with table and chairs; perfect for sipping on an evening sangria and watching the world go by. There is a sofa bed for additional guests who wish to stay (to be made up on request), meaning the apartment can potentially sleep up to four people. There is also a fast and secure wifi internet connection exclusively for guests' use.

There is a good sized kitchen which comes fully equipped with pots and pans, crockery and utensils, an electric oven, gas hobs, a brand new fridge/freezer and washing machine which you are welcome to use. We provide the basic essentials such as tea and coffee, olive oil, salt, pepper, etc, and even a nice bottle of Spanish Rioja on arrival (if you prefer white wine/cava/something soft, please tell me and I will provide!)

In the centre of the apartment you will find the bathroom area which has just been extended in March 2016, to include a super large hydrotherapy shower, and a separate room containing the toilet and sink.

The bedroom is to the rear of the property and although it doesn’t have any exterior windows, we find this a huge advantage because you get such a peaceful night’s sleep. There is an amazingly comfortable double bed with brand new mattress, lots of storage space and hanging space for clothes.

Both the living room and bedroom have separate remote controlled air conditioning units – perfect for the summer months when you need to escape from the hot sunshine outside!

As your host, I am here to look after you during your stay and make you feel at home. I will provide a list of personal recommendations and insights on where to go and what to do in the neighbourhood, as well as the latest city magazines so you can keep up to date with what’s going on while you are here. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to get in touch! :)

Sarah was wonderful from the get-go. She sent us an extremely thorough email to make sure we knew where we were going and how to get to the apartment. Upon arrival she had left my girlfriend and I a bottle of wine, and we were greeted by her friend Chris who was very helpful! Sarah sent us a list of recommendations of restaurants and bars nearby, as well as lots of things to do in Barcelona whilst we were there. The apartment's location is incredible, close to the beach and an unbelievable amount of restaurants and bars within a 5-10 minute walk. In addition the gothic quarter is just across the road.

This is a fantastic place to stay in Barcelona and is on one of the quieter streets in El Born. Sarah was a great host, and even though she was out of town when we arrived she was in constant communication. She had friends meet us at the flat and check in was a breeze. The space was clean and comfortable. Great cafe, grocery, pastry shop and wine store right below the flat as well.

We LOVED this place. I can't say enough about it. The apartment was amazing, the location was great and Sarah was an excellent host. She even helped us with our (admittedly) too many bags and had a bottle of wine waiting. We stayed for a month and would have stayed longer if we could…Barcelona is an amazing city. I wholeheartedly recommend staying here. You’re right in the heart of the action but the street is quiet, the bedroom is in the far back of the apartment with no windows, and the bed is comfortable. There are 2 metro stops within a few blocks, and you’re a few minutes’ walk form Las Ramblas and the cathedral in the Gothic Quarter. One thing I will tell you is the kitchen is fairly small, so cooking might be a bit of an issue if you’re used to more space. This didn’t present a problem to us, just an excuse to go out and explore the local restaurants. Try Bar Joan in the Mercat de Santa Caterina for lunch (3 courses plus a drink for 12EUR), Bacoa burger or Doze Urban food on the Pla de Palau for burgers/sandwiches, Taquiza de Coyo right on the other side of the building or Taco Alto for tacos. I’d also recommend Gocce di Latte for gelato… they make their own in some pretty amazing flavors, like Cumin, Szechuan pepper and lemon. Amazing. The stairs are kind of narrow leading up to the apartment, so keep that in mind when packing. Other than that, sit back and enjoy one of the best cities there is.

I stayed here for almost a month and Sarah was such a wonderful host! She was always fast at replying to my messages and gave me good tips of how to travel in and around Barcelona. The apartment is very cozy and warm. I never had any issues with my stay here! I highly recommend staying at this apartment if you want a real authentic experience of Barcelona. And the apartment is near all the major museums, galleries, metro and all your tourist needs. And if you're a coffee lover like me, there is so many cafes near the apartment for your morning coffee to start the day!

The apartment is in a great area of the city. Sarah is a wonderful host, gave us a lot of recommendations and answered a ton of questions for us. There is a new shower that's awesome. Enjoyed our stay very much. Highly recommend this apartment.
