  • I had a wonderful experience staying in this guest house in my first visit to Portland. The host was amazing and showed me how to get around the city. The guesthouse was beautiful—like a very nice hotel on the beach! I like to jog and there is a beautiful trail across the street. While not located near the city center, I found it very easy to get around compact Portland. There are a number of park-n-rides available if you want to ditch the car when exploring downtown. I highly recommend this place to fellow travelers.

  • A perfect stay with a perfect host! John was extremely helpful to us!

  • I truly cannot describe just how great this place is in 500 words or less. If the two of you plan on staying anywhere in the vicinity of Portland, you don't want to pass this place up...trust me!
First of all, the accommodation itself was not only pristine and immaculate, but the decor was very inviting and appealing. You think the pictures are great? They don't do it justice.
Secondly, John was/is such an amazingly gracious and helpful host. My only regret is that we didn't have enough time to sit, chat, and get to know him a bit. He is very knowledgable with directions and delicious dining options in the area (in fact, he provided us with a list of his faves).
In addition, John provided us with everything we could possibly need or want during our stay, including coffee, a mini-fridge filled with drinks, cable tv with movie channel options, a hair dryer, and a drawer full of "In case you forgot anything!" And because it's a separate guest house, everything was right there for our use, so we never had to ask for anything or feel as though we were intruding.
John was easy to talk to, and extremely flexible with our arrival time and check in, which continued to change for us. Yet, he kept in contact with us and assured us that he would be available upon our arrival. He truly made it feel as though we were on vacation in every possible way!
Thank you for everything, John. Next time, I plan on taking advantage of sipping some coffee on that beautiful patio that looks like an oasis!

  • The whole experience with John since the beginning to the end was great! He was very helpful and his place was awesome! You get what you see and beyond. John is a very friendly person, very organized and clean. It is a promise that you won't regret at all to stay in this lovely place. Furthermore, John provide me and my friend a list of great local restaurants. They were so great that when I traveled to Vancouver and Victoria my friend was wishing to have another list from John for these places. He even allowed me to have some of his front yard lavender!

  • I'd have to agree with other travelers, John's guesthouse is even more amazing than the pictures make it seem! John has decorated the guesthouse beautifully and it is fully stocked with all the amenities you could need (and then some)--high quality linens and towels, a private bathroom with amazing shower, a keurig, mini fridge, wifi and TV with cable, etc. The beds are extremely comfortable..we didn't want to get out of them. It was a very quick drive downtown from John's place. We couldn't have asked for a better place to stay. John himself is hilarious and one of the friendliest hosts I have ever had. He offered to pick myself and friend up from the airport because we had a lot of luggage, and he even dropped us off at the car rental place. He is very knowledgeable about Portland and can offer great recommendations. Our stay was short, but I would stay here again in a heartbeat and would recommend you do the same!

  • John's place is clean, cozy & cottage cute! You really can't get much more comfort & style in one space. The towels, linens, pillows are of high end quality which makes for a great night sleep & papered shower experience. The location was conveniently located for our Portland visit. Our host John is the best historian & offers great tips for the best spots in town. I truly felt at home and will always return to this special place every time I return to the beautiful city of Portland. John's hospitality supersedes any high in hotel I have ever stayed in. Absolutely the best host. Attention to details over the top.

  • Loved my first airbnb experience. He called me to let me know when we could check in but was also flexible on our arrival time. He gave a quick tour but didn't overwhelm with details. Place was extremely clean, nicely decorated, and the beds and linens were great! I loved the in room water and coffee (with cream!). Wish I could have enjoyed the lovely patio.... The location is quite far from things so make sure you have your own car.

    Response from John:

Thanks for the tips. I have tried to avoid pasting stuff all over the place. I suppose I could easily write a "cheat sheet" and have it in the room for guests.
You should have received an email/confirmation/what to know sheet from AirBnB about the house rules and Internet access. Did you not receive? Thanks again for the suggestions. John

  • John’s guesthouse was the most amazing experience. Like other reviewers have said, his pictures make the place look great, but it’s even better in real life. The amenities are fantastic (fast wifi, a keurig, a mini fridge, walk-in closet), the beds are comfy, the place is spotless. John is a great host, perfect for foodies! He gave my boyfriend and I great suggestions for local places to eat in the city. I’d recommend him highly, and wouldn’t hesitate to stay with him again.

  • Our third stay was as good as the first & second. A private unit with a shared walkway to the entrance doors only, across from each other but not directly so. The sun was out this time, so the patio was a treat. Very nice room. Amazingly nice shower!! Nicer than the pictures even, in our view. Across from our favorite walking and fitness trail (2 mile loop on wood chips that feels like woods despite nearness to roads and golf course. John is great. Easy to deal with. Don't pass this one up if it fits your plans. This place is a great deal, for sure, and a nice place to stay!

  • Place was simply gorgeous and very clean. John is a easy going and down to earth. He always made sure I was taken care of. Easy access in and out of the place. No complications. I wouldn't hesitate to book again!
