The Space

We set up this five acre two bdrm ranch style for grandma and grandpa to stay at when they visit. When they're not here, it is available to guests by the weekend, week or month. One bdrm has a queen bed, the second has a twin and a bunk (twin over full). This is not a showpiece - just a cozy, comfortable place to relax and enjoy, but close enough in for some culture and sightseeing.

Even more perfect if you are traveling through with your horses, as there is a 6 stall barn, fenced pasture and small indoor arena on the property. Sit out on the back deck in the evenings and watch the sun set over the pond and pastures.

- Fully furnished
- 40 inch TV w/BlueRay player and basic cable
- Full kitchen
- Washer/dryer
- blow dryer, curling iron
- WiFi

There is no central air conditioning, as it is rarely needed in Oregon, but we do have a portable A/C unit that easily wheels around the house. The house is shaded, so it remains pretty comfortable - even on hot days.

Note: AT&T coverage is reasonably good, but Verizon coverage is pretty sketchy at the house since it is out in the country. Several Verizon guests have mentioned they have to go out in the yard and stand on their head to make a phone call.

  • We were looking for a quiet, more rural alternative to Portland while we were visiting and this was exactly what I had hoped for. It's a very comfortable and private house on a beautiful property, yet had easy access to town. I was surprised to find such a large, spacious house on this beautiful property. There is a small pond in the adjacent back yard, and I enjoyed watching the ducks with my morning cup of coffee on the deck. The beds were very comfortable, and the kitchen was well-stocked.

  • Traveling with small children can be crazy & it was essential for us to find a comfortable place to stay while in Oregon. This 2 bedroom cottage was just that. The bedding was the most cozy I've been in! There was space for the kids to run around & unwind. The fully stocked kitchen was essential because all our meals are home cooked, due to my kids allergies. The owners were kind enough to provide toys & books for the kids (yea! Several less things to pack!) plus there's a swing in the back. Overall a great place & I'm very glad we found it.

  • We had an absolute wonderful time staying at Steve's house! The house and property is a complete haven. It's the perfect getaway, so peaceful and beautiful. We spent lots of time on the porch enjoying the scenery of horses, a pond full of ducks, the countryside and the gorgeous lawn. Our daughter had so much fun running around and swinging on the tree swing. The house is full of everything you need including cozy blankets, high quality bedding and towels, a wonderful kitchen for cooking (with lots of helpful supplies including condiments, popcorn for the popcorn maker, dishes, crockpot, you name it!, etc), games, a few movies, a great TV and internet access and tons more. Steve is wonderfully accommodating, friendly and helpful. He responds immediately to inquiries and was readily available for anything during our stay. He definitely made us feel at ease for the entire stay. The house was so neat and tidy and was ultra comfortable for family time and tons of relaxation. Can't say enough nice things about this home. Whether you're on vacation, business, just need a quick getaway from the city - this is a great place to stay.

  • We celebrated both Christmas and our son's wedding while staying in this lovely home, and it was perfect! From the fluffy towels and plenty of hot water, to the comfy beds and beautiful views , to the sweet little Christmas tree and Nativity that welcomed us, we felt spoiled and grateful!
The kitchen was well- stocked with cookware and bakeware as well as the paper goods and spices we needed. The appliances including washer/dryer and dishwasher, hair dryer, iron, stove, oven, microwave, toaster, crockpot, coffee maker and more were all top notch, clean and convenient.
The view off the back deck is so lovely. We watched geese, ducks and many species of birds playing in the pond.
Now that we have in-laws in Oregon City, we will most certainly make this lovely house our home-base when we travel to the area. Thank you for providing such a comfortable, welcoming home.

  • A beautiful, restful home for several weeks this summer! Great fun feeding the horses and working on mosaic art on the back deck. Entertained fiends and family and enjoyed sharing "my house" with them. Comfortably furnished with all of the necessities for a wonderful stay while visiting family in Oregon.

  • Steve was very accommodating to help us get in on short notice. He is a gracious and friendly host. We loved the place. It is spacious, well equipped and very comfortable. We loved being able to look out from the deck over the rolling acres of grass surrounded by white picked fences. This is horse country. If you are looking for a place that provides a quiet restorative experience and is close enough to easily drive to the Columbia Gorge then this fits the bill.

  • Wow- what can I say- this was literally the PERFECT place for us to stay. We wanted a location that was more rural, that gave a country living feeling, but was still close to town, and this is exactly what their little haven is.

The house itself felt like home- open, airy, comfy. The surrounding lawn, trees, flowers, and horses in the distance was just so bucolic. We were sad to leave. The kitchen has this lovely huge window overlooking a beautiful expanse of lawn and 2 huge graceful trees providing dappled shade.

If we ever come back to this area of Oregon you can bet I will be contacting Steve before we look at any other rentals.

The Kale they left us from their garden went into a wonderful stew I made that was so satisfying on one of the overcast days.

Thanks so much! It was just what our family needed.

About
Hi and welcome to our airbnb listing. Laurie & I have lived in Oregon City, OR for close to twenty years and were drawn here by the quiet rural setting. As a business owner and arts and food lover, it is nice to be close to a minor metropolitan area (Portland is just a 25 minute drive), but the part we like best has been raising our six children, two horses, five goats, 10 chickens (at last count), two dogs, three cats and way too many zuccinis on a small hobby farm outside of town. We recently furnished the listed property for Laurie's parents to stay at when they visit. They love it there and we hope they will spend more and more time there. But in the meantime, we are making it available to guests whenever it is unoccupied. Laurie & I became converts of "by owner" vacation rentals when we managed to take our entire family to Europe for 30 days last year. We spent a few days in hotels/pensions, but the rest of the time was spent in "by owner" situations similar to airbnb. Not only was it easier to accommodate our large family, but having access to full kitchens helped us save tons of money by cooking our own meals. Thanks for looking and good luck in your search! Happy travels, Steve & Laurie Couch
