Franklin@QueenVic: Room in city apt

Apartment - Private room · Franklin Street, Melbourne, VIC 3000, Australia

Central, cosy & clean room in a city apartment; located on Franklin St side of the Queen Victoria Market.

The Space

The guest room is a single room in a two-bedroom apartment. Ideal for a short stay for one person. The apartment is furnished with a mix of modern & vintage design. Shared bathroom, living area and kitchen.

Guest Access

All your necessities are provided. A simple breakfast, tea/coffee and fruit are all available everyday for you to help yourself. Bath towel, toiletries (shampoo, conditioner and body wash), wireless internet, cooking facilities, iron/ironing board, washer/dryer, hairdryer, international adaptor, heater/air-con, maps and city guide books are all available in the apartment. A guest Myki card (for Melbourne public transport) is available for you to use, just top up with credit as you go.

Interaction with Guests

You will be sharing the apartment with your host. During the week I work nearby in the city. On weekends, my schedule is pretty varied but I'm usually out and about. If I'm not at the apt and there's anything you need to ask or tell me, please message, call or leave me a note and I'll try to help. Don't hesitate to ask me questions about Melbourne and anything that you are interested to find out about, I'll try to answer. You might also meet my friends, family if they are stopping by.

Please note that I work office hours, so check-in times are around these hours. I'll always check these times are ok before accepting bookings. If you already know your arrival and departure times when making an enquiry, it is very helpful to include this information (and flight number if applicable).

The Neighborhood

Franklin St is in the vibrant heart of Melbourne city, but also very close to the inner-city cool of North Melbourne, Carlton & Fitzroy. An array of restaurants, cafes & bars are all a short walk or tram ride away.

Note for location: Depending on airbnb interface I have noticed my map moves. The apartment building is on Franklin St (between Queen St and William St), Melbourne. Directly facing the Queen Victoria Market from the southern side.

Getting around

Flagstaff station (weekdays only) is around the corner. Southern Cross and Melbourne Central are a short 10-15 min walk. Tram stops for various lines on the tram network are under 5 min walk. There is a stop for the free City Circle tram on Latrobe St and also a stop for the Melbourne Tourist bus at Victoria market; all very nearby.

Once we have confirmed your booking a detailed email will be sent to you with instructions on how to get to my apartment from Southern Cross Station (if arriving by Skybus from the airport).

Other Things to Note

Upon arrival I will take a copy of your ID/passport for my own verification and security.

Look forward to hearing from you and hope to see you in Melbourne soon!

  • What you see is what you get! Wei Ai was fabulous. We had planned to meet at noon for me to collect the key but as I had arrived earlier, she was accomodating and met me at 11am instead and showed me around the apartment before heading back to work.

The apartment and room was quaint and tidy. I didn't spend a lot of time indoors so the room was just nice. QVM is minutes away from the apartment. There's plenty of coffee places around and getting into the city is a breeze.

    Highly recommended! Thanks, Wei Ai!

  • Wei An is delightful -very friendly and easy going. Her apartment is fairly small, but very neat and tidy and located in an ideal location close to the fabulous Queen Victoria Market and the CBD. Lots of public transport nearby. It was a fabulous base especially for accessing town and Carlton.

  • Had a lovely stay - great location, and Wei Ai is a very friendly and helpful host. The flat is small but very clean, quiet and comfortable, and Wei Ai is easygoing, so I didn't feel like we were tripping over each other. No window in the guest room, so maybe not good if you're claustrophobic, but was fine for a short term stay. Would definitely recommend.

Tip: If you don't know how to use a Telstra mobile broadband thingy, make sure you watch when Wei Ai shows you how to restart it - I didn't pay attention and managed to hit the wrong button the first time I tried. Excellent wifi connection once I'd got over that hiccup.

  • Great place to be in! This place is just opposite the famous Queen Victoria Market and just minutes away from the city. Most importantly the room is in a small and cosy apartment making me felt at home. Wei Ai is a great host, she is very friendly and gave me great instructions and tips with travelling in Melbourne. Thanks for the stay and things you provided!

  • Perfect! I (email hidden) 7-11 March and had a great time. She is a very sweet host. The apartment is small but very neat and has everything you need, free wifi, ipod speakers, tv, super nice kitchen, balcony and lots of brochures of Melbourne. It's right across of the Queen Victoria Market, which even has Dutch cheese! mmm
I went into the city often and everything is in walking distance, 35 min and you are on the other side, but also the trams are located nearby. I would definitely go back!

  • I had a great time staying with Wei Ai in Melbourne. She was very flexible about my arrival and departure time. Her apartment was clean und secure. The room was small but it was everything I needed. Her apartment is very close to the city and the train station. Wei Ai was really friendly and gave me good recommendations.

  • It was my first time using Airbnb and Wei Ai made it a fuss-free and enjoyable experience.

The location of the apartment is perfect and accessibility was fantastic. I was traveling alone to Melbourne to check out White Night Melbourne and all the festivities were within walking distance, which was great because I could easily walk home late into the night when the tram services stopped. It was really easy getting from the airport to the apartment with the Skybus. The free city circle tram stop is a minute away, so is the train station and other tram stops. The apartment is right opposite the famous Queen Victoria Market too!

The apartment was clean, neat, cosy and so comfortable. The bedroom is small with a side table, bed is soft and comfortable. No windows in the bedroom but it worked fine on a chilly day when I left the door slightly ajar. The shower is amazing with great smelling organic toiletries. I had the luxury of having the whole apartment to myself over the weekend! (thanks Wei Ai!)

I highly recommend Wei Ai as a host. Sweet girl who came to meet me during her office lunch hour to pass the keys and orientate me around the house. I would make this my choice again if I should visit Melbourne. Especially perfect for solo female travelers.

P/S: there is an amazing fried chicken and waffles at The Public Bar which is a 3-mins walk from the apartment! Great for a late night meal after a crazy day of sightseeing.

  • Wei Ai was a fantastic host! I really enjoyed my stay with her in Melbourne. I arrived around lunch-time, and she left work to meet me, acquainted me to the city and it's tram/train system, and showed me around the apartment. She had tons of maps and guides that were very helpful for navigating the city, and she was a perfect balance of attentive and conscientious of my privacy. The location of her place is IDEAL! It's right in the CBD, extremely close to public transportation, and near some sites. I really enjoyed the time I spent in Melbourne, and Wei Ai was a terrific person to stay with!

  • Wei Ai was a delightful and helpful host making my forays around Melbourne on public transport very easy. I stayed for 8 days and felt comfortable making myself at home as she invited me to do. Wei Ai's place is modern and clean and just handy to everything.

I live in Melbourne Australia, I work during the week in the city. Interested in travel, yoga, running, creative pursuits. I've used Airbnb as a guest and it is a great alternative to hostel/hotel. Since July 2013, I've started hosting guests in my spare room.
