Wonderful place... Just off the beach, great views etc. The family who cleans up and helps out are amazing. This place is really special.
We recently returned from 6 wonderful days at the Casa del Platero in Zihuatanejo. The rental process began with an exchange of e-mails with the host, Melissa. She responded promptly to our concerns and was helpful as we tried to coordinate the schedules of the far-flung parts of our family, some in Mexico and some in the US, and agree on a time frame for our beach vacation.
Since the ages in our party of 8 ranged from 3 1/2 to 72, we looked long and hard to find a place that would be safe, comfortable, and convenient to the beach. We found it. Upon arrival at the home, we were pleased to see that the photos of the property were accurate. Our first glimpse of the bay from the generous patio area was, we thought, sufficiently spectacular, until we took in the vista from the panoramic windows on the second floor. Our first stop was the infinity pool, where we decompressed from our travels and enjoyed the welcoming beverages provided by the host. The beach--La Ropa, the best beach in Zihua--was just steps away, and trips into the town center for shopping at the market, as well as airport runs, were facilitated by the ever-attentive Flaco, the caretaker and chauffeur. Marieye, the housekeeper and cook, was a dynamo with the coffeemaker and the mop, and was the first one in the kitchen every morning.
We rented the entire house, which has begun to show a little wear and tear but is efficiently maintained by Flaco and Marieye, who attended to all our needs and requests. We found the downstairs kitchen to be very well equipped to meet the needs of foodies. If one were renting just the upstairs, the kitchen there would be less functional and would benefit from an upgrade. There is generous lighting in most indoor and outdoor spaces, except for the stairs leading to the second floor entry, which were a little tricky for some of us to navigate at night.
The entire process, from first contact with Melissa to our final goodbyes to Flaco and Marieye, was as stress-free as any vacation could be. We will cherish our memories of Zihua and Casa del Platero.
Nice house close to the beach with a good view, sunset and pool. Only two of the bedrooms have air-conditioning, so be prepared for a fight when you arrive because it is hot and humid... The interior is a bit old some places, especially the kitchen, but the atmosphere is cozy and nautical. You spend most of the time in the very nice pool anyway.
