Enjoy a restful stay, on the banks of the historic Boyne river near Drogheda, Newgrange and the Battle of the Boyne site. The fully restored Lock House is just outside Drogheda and 30 mins from Dublin Airport. Warm welcomes, magical setting!
We're not quite sure when the Lock House was first built but the canal lock opposite was constructed in 1778, only 88 years after the Battle of the Boyne, and there would have been a lock-keeper's cottage on the site since then. Our best guess is that the current building, whose main walls are 2ft(60cm) thick, dates back to about 1900. It's been fully renovated but retains a charming, quirky character which guests seem to enjoy. Current inhabitants are owners Sophie and Mike, their four year old son Shane and affectionate Golden Retriever Billie. Walking and cycling access to the house is enhanced by the near completion of the Boyne Greenway walk/cycle way, which connects Drogheda to the Battle of the Boyne Visitor Centre and will go on to connect to the Bru an Boinne Interpretative Centre at Newgrange. Please feel free to message us if you have any questions.
This Family, Mike, Sophie, Shane and Billie are special beings and we are blessed to have met them all. The home was perfect, Mike and the family keep this place open and peaceful. We were able to play games with Shane and speak with Mike of beautiful life dreams. We learned a lot from this experience and will always remember the precious moments we shared together. The location is amazing, we walked on the boardwalk next to the river and found such peace with this place. Mike and Sophie brought us to Newgrange the last day we visited, this experience was breathtaking and we will never foget this magical time. Thank you Egan family, blessings to you and until we meet again, continue to shine!

This was in a great location, very close to the Newgrange. We had an extra special experience with Mike when he offered to drive us (we would have never found it on our own) to the vernal equinox tomb lighting at Loughcrew. At the top there were spectacular 360º views of the surrounding countryside. All in all a great stay with over the top hospitality including breakfast. Mike went out of his way to get me gluten free food. Highly recommended!
We had a wonderful stay at Mike's and Sophie's house. Communication prior to our stay was easy and the house was good to find thanks to Mike's perfect description. We had a nice chat and were warmly welcome with a cup of coffee and tea! The place is close to the motorway and could be reached super quick when travelling around. We had our own bathroom and it was no problem to cook our meal in Mike's kitchen! So thank you once again Mike for being such an easygoing host and: We loved your breakfast you prepared for us including the bread you baked!
Un super accueil de mike et Shane. Un hote très gentil. Merci pour les conseil. Et pour les scones.
Mike is a wonderful, generous, always smiling host, having both patience and optimism, offering his cosy home with the most comfortable bed you could ever imagine! :)
Mike and Sophie and Shane we a lovely family. They made us feel so welcome even though they didn't know if we were actually going to make it. We had a comfy warm bed in a quiet part of the house just as Mike's description stated. We had a lovely walk to the Battle of the Boyne grounds and museum right from their cottage. Thank you again, Mike and Sophie and Shane.
Mike has a unique home in a beautiful country setting. Good price that included breakfast that we were not expecting. Thanks again for you hospitality Mike

I am very fortunate to be living, with my wife Sophie, young son Shane and Billie the Golden Retriever, in a beautiful riverside setting at Oldbridge, just outside Drogheda, on the site of the Battle of the Boyne. I work as a support person for people with learning disabilities and teach mindfulness meditation for stress reduction and other benefits. I enjoy music, sports, meeting people and sitting quietly doing nothing.
