Loft Bedroom in Old Beer Brewery

Apartment - Private room · Powlett Street, East Melbourne, VIC 3002, Australia

Nestled in leafy, historic and upscale East Melbourne, my apartment is in an old beer brewery turned funky apartments. It's very close to all the cool things Melbourne has to offer, either by foot or short tram ride.

The Space

We're offering the loft of our apartment (see pictures) to be used for you and potentially another guest (for a small extra fee) during your stay in Melbourne. Please see the pictures for how the loft features into the apartment. While there is no door to the loft, it is on a level by itself, accessible by a staircase.

This building is a heritage building (a former beer brewery, actually) and is in a quiet location only a short work or shorter tram ride to the Melbourne CBD and other main attractions. The building complex also has great amenities including a tasty cafe, pizzeria, supermarket, wine bar, hairdresser and fish & chips shop (arguably the best fish and chips in Melbourne).

There are trams and buses to take you around the city right in front of the apartment.

Nearby:
- trendy Smith Street and Brunswick street in Fitzroy and Collingwood (less than 10 minute walk)
- little Saigon, filled with Vietnamese restaurants (less than a 10 minute walk, 5 minutes by tram)
- the Melbourne Cricket Ground (15 minute walk)
- Melbourne Park for the tennis and other sporting venues (20 minute walk)
- and, of course, the Melbourne CBD (very nice 15 minute walk, 8 minutes by tram)
- quaint and quiet streets of East Melbourne with very old an beautiful Victorian houses (just open the front door!)

You will be sleeping on a brand name double size mattress with pillow top which can comfortably sleep two people. The room has a sofa, 40" LCD TV, sofa, coffee table, desk and now a tree!, which I hope will help make your stay as comfortable and enjoyable as possible.

We will try my best to accommodate you, but to avoid disappointment, please contact us before proceeding with your booking. We'd like to know a little about my guests before letting them into my home.

We love to host international people, between quite international ourselves. Between us, we speak Chinese, French, Dutch and Hebrew.

We can provide you with some simple breakfast (cereal, milk), tea, and a somewhat complex coffee maker.

Guest Access

As a guest, you have the whole upstairs loft to yourself. There's a TV, couch, desk and Wii there, plus the bed.

Downstairs, there's a dinner table and kitched which you can use. We have a new fridge, so can put some stuff in there too.

Finally, there's the bathroom. There's a washer and dryer in there, but I ask that you chat with me before using it.

Interaction with Guests

We like to chat with our guests from time to time and if we have some spare time and energy, love to take them to our favourite bars or restaurants nearby.

We'll be sleeping in the downstairs bedroom and sharing a bathroom.

The Neighborhood

East Melbourne is one of the most exclusive neighbourhoods in all of Australia. It's mostly park area, with other beautiful mansions from the Victorian era.

It's adjacent to many of Melbourne's attractions. To the West, Melbourne's CBD. To the north, trendy Fitzroy and Collingwood. To the east, the Vietnamese area, with great pho. And to the south, the MCG and Melbourne Park (home to the Australian Open).

Getting around

There is a tram stop about 10 meters from the front door of the apartment which takes you into the city or to Richmond for Pho. There is also a bus stop 10 meters away with buses that also run into the city a bit more frequently than the tram.

I'd be happy to provide instructions on public transportation.

  • Scott and Summer are interesting and lovely people. They were a pleasure to stay with, and I would stay with them again if I returned. Their apartment was comfortable and well located to the CBD.

  • Scott and Summer were incredibly welcoming and a joy to spend time with. Their flat is quite well located, and they were more than happy to help with any of my questions about Melbourne. They possess a warmth which contributed so much to my stay in Melbourne. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend their flat wholeheartedly.

  • Great to see Scott and Summer again. Their loft is very comfortable and the apartment block is very convenient to the MCG and various stadiums, the CBD, and trams. I really enjoyed my stay and would highly recommend Scott & Summer's loft. Thanks a bunch for letting me stay - again. Cheers, Paul.

  • Scott & Summer are not only amazing Airbnb hosts, but they're just amazing people in general. They were so friendly while they shared their clean and tastefully-furnished home with me. On more than one occasion they invited me to join them to grab a bite or a trip into the city, which was great as I was new to Melbourne. The location of their place is perfect as it's very central, yet quiet. There are great restaurants and cafes nearby, and the CBD is a very short tram ride away. The room is very comfortable and spacious, and includes a large desk which was very useful for me. All in all, a very highly recommended place to stay if you'll be in Melbourne.

    Response from Scott & Summer:

Thanks for the kind review. Was our pleasure to host you.

  • Had a great stay at Scott and Summer's place.

They are both friendly and welcoming people, very easy to chat to and relaxed.

The Aprt is very cool, a very interesting space. There is a great bed, a TV and a sofa to relax on. Down stairs there's a small supermarket, a Café, Pizza Shop and a very good Fish n Chips shop.

It's only a short walk down to the MCG and not that much further through parklands into the city. There are loads cool bars and restaurants also within walking distance. If walking isn't your thing there's a tram stop right out front, too easy.

Thanks for letting me stay guys would love to stay again some time.

  • Scott was a great host, in addition to his beautiful apartment in a superb location. Would recommend to anyone travelling to Melbourne.

    April 2013
  • Scott's apartment is gorgeous - sweeping high ceilings, modern kitchen and bathroom and stylishly decorated. Better yet, it's very central and convenient, with a supermarket, pizza, fish and chips and a great little wine bar in the same complex. Scott was considerate and hospitable.

  • It was a pleasure staying in Scott's very comfortable and conveniently located loft. He's an excellent host, giving you the space/freedom to do your own thing but always down for a good chat at the end of the day. Beautiful apartment, thanks for having me Scott!
