Lovely Historic Italianate House

House - Private room · Oak St, San Francisco, CA 94102, United States

The Space

This beautiful property is centrally located in the popular Hayes Valley neighborhood of San Francisco. Known as the Russell Warren House, it is one of only a handful of properties in San Francisco listed on the National Registry of Historic Homes. If you're looking to experience San Francisco from the local perspective and immerse yourself in the culture, art and history of this amazing city, this is the place to be! It's walking distance to BART, the Castro, the Mission, Alamo Square and Haight-Ashbury. Union Square, Chinatown, Nob Hill, Fisherman's Wharf, and the Embarcadero are only a short streetcar ride away.

Your room booking includes access to a shared bathroom, kitchen, and living room with TV, Wii, fully stocked bar, garden, laundry facilities and wireless internet service that extends to our beautiful garden oasis.

Our home survived the 1906 earthquake and has many original charming details including a working marble fireplace, chandeliers, crown moulding and hardwood floors throughout. The garden is very comfortable with a cozy sectional and a gas fire pit with azure glass. We provide warm blankets to snuggle under while you enjoy the fire pit and hot cocoa upon request.

Your hosts are Dave and Allison and Chacho the very nervous little chihuhua. Allison likes to cook and is available to prepare breakfast, snacks and even dinner on occasion if you care to join us. Our guests often like to join us as we entertain guests for dinner parties and holidays. It's the best way to really experience what it's like to live and thrive in San Francisco.

Our home is cozy and beautiful and we love hosting. We know San Francisco very well and are passionate about our city. Our philosophy about hosting is that once you become our guest, you're family, so there's never a stranger in our home! Please take some time to read our reviews, they speak volumes about our hospitality. We're a 5 star establishment, and your comfort is our priority.

The guest bedroom includes unique design touches and original art we're sure you'll enjoy. We provide plush robes, bath sheets and hand towels for your comfort and convenience. We finish to room with local chocolates on your pillow by Littlejohn's - a SF based company owned by a friend-to give you the full SF boutique hotel experience. The guest room is stocked with maps, tour books and local publications to help you plan your daily adventures. We're frequently available to help you map our your sights to help you get around the city and make the most of your time here. We provide breakfast pastries, granola, yogurt, fruit, coffee and juice for our guests and, on occasion, a custom breakfast prepared just for you.

Our garden is a small, sunny gem rich with flowers, blooming jasmine, a fountain and our very own apple tree. We have comfortable new patio furniture and a variety of gorgeous flora that will make you forget that you're in the heart of a major international city as you enjoy the buzzing of the hummingbirds and sip a glass of wine or your morning coffee.

Our neighborhood is safe, friendly and central to public transportation, boutique shopping, hip restaurants, pubs, and nightclubs. Within just a few blocks you'll find German, Italian, Japanese, French, Mediterranean, Thai and Soul food.

We also have bikes and helmets for rent for $25/day if you want to explore SF like a local!

PARKING: Just like any large city, parking can be a challenge. There are several parking garages that charge $20-45/night throughout town, the closest is Civic Center Garage. Generally in residential neighborhoods there is free 2 hour parking unless you have a resident parking sticker issued from the city. Just make sure you read ALL the signs in the area to avoid a ticket (street cleaning, construction, etc). The neighborhoods aren't patrolled as much by Parking Enforcement, but occasionally they do come by. After 2 years and well over 100+ guests, only 1 guest has gotten a ticket (they blocked a driveway). So, while the odds are in your favor not to get a ticket, the possibility is there. Just please read the signs...

CHECK IN 2 pm or later - CHECK OUT 11 am. If you must check in early, we'll try to accommodate but we often have back to back bookings. Thank you for understanding.

We look forward to helping you make your visit to San Francisco unforgettable.

  • My husband and I had a wonderful time. Dave was our host for the weekend and he made us feel immediately welcome to our San Francisco home. The location was perfect. We had tickets to a SF Jazz festival event and it was just a few blocks away. Great neighborhood with many very good restaurants near by. We walked every where. The best S.F. trip to date. Thanks

  • Alison and Daves place is gorgeous. I get at home as soon as I got in the front door. The bed is super comfy and is also in a great location. I would recommend their place to everyone visiting SF.

  • Allison and Dave are great hosts! They were a big help to us with navigating the city based on what we wanted to do and see - especially with getting us going on the public transit system. They are very knowledgeable about the city and love sharing recommendations on their favorite places to see, things to do and most importantly restaurants. We had a great stay and appreciated having a home base to come back to after long days of exploring the city!

  • We had a FANTASTIC experience in San Francisco thanks to Allison and Dave! Their house was immaculate and beautifully decorated. Coffee and breakfast were available in the morning. Allison helped us get wherever we needed to go by giving perfect instructions for navigating the public transportation system. I'm SO happy that we chose to use AirBnB and Allison's place as our home away from home.

Don't bother looking anywhere else, just book this place! You won't be sorry.

  • Allison and Dave are great hosts, besides their lovely home, they will also share with you tons of interesting tips about the city, places to see, restaurants to eat at. My boyfriend and I had a wonderful time in San Francisco and Allison and Dave were a huge part of it!

  • This is the best place you could possibly stay in San Francisco. The house is beautiful - cozy without being cluttered, unique, decorated artfully, and best of all you feel welcome from the get go. Allison and Dave are not only super nice people, but they lead interesting lives and are great conversationalists. Aliison and Dave make you feel at home right away - I was tired from a very long flight and when I got in late they offered me wine and I sat and watched the olympics with them. They have a mi casa su casa idea about their kitchen, and aside from providing coffee and snacks when they ate they offered us soup, yogurt and fruit, you name it. Dave even gave me a ride to my job interview the first day which really alleviated some stress. They are attentive to detail from providing nice towels, chocolates and water in the room, etc. Its like the best parts of a B&B combined with the best parts of staying with a friend. I will recommend them enthusiastically to every person I know stopping in SF.

  • We had a great stay, and we were greeted with a very warm welcome. When we arrived, Allison and Dave sat with us at the kitchen table, provided some maps, and highlighted some suggested places to go/things to see. They also gave some guidance on how to get around the city. Using public transit was need to attempt renting a vehicle if you are staying in San Francisco! Our hosts had a great little blue book on the table in our room. It had more information about Dave, Allison, and their city. It had great resources and interesting tidbits of information. If you go, read that book first! The neighborhood seemed very safe, and we felt very 'at home', able to come and go as we pleased. We would definitely come back if given the opportunity. Thanks for a great experience, Dave & Allison.

  • Allison and Dave were amazing hosts!! I could not be happier with our choice to stay with them. They were friendly and made us feel welcome in their home. They were helpful and knowledgeable about San Francisco and even included us in on their Chinese New Year celebration. I would highly recommend staying with Allison and Dave! If I ever visit San Francisco in the future, I would not hesitate to stay with them again. Thank you for everything!!

St. Francis Memorial Hospital Emergency Room
We are a nice couple who work in Emergency Medicine in San Francisco. With such intense jobs, we understand the extremes of human experience and behavior. We've also been together for many years and are still very much in love with one another. We have a diverse community of friends who enrich our lives on many levels. We're down to earth, enjoy entertaining, cooking, art, hiking, concerts and photography among other things. We love adventure and travel and enjoy meeting new people. We also enjoy nesting at home and our home reflects our diverse interests and keen value for comfort and beauty. We're long-time Burners, too, so we have a creative spirit to us and a strong sense of community and social responsibility. People often describe us as being very open, warm and accepting. I think it's probably true, as you will be greeted with a hug and a smile (and, sometimes, cookies!) and will often feel like you're visiting long-time friends. We've lived in the Bay Area for 10+ years after re-locating from the East Coast. We love our city and are eager to show it off. We look forward to meeting you!
