This beautiful property is centrally located in the popular Hayes Valley neighborhood of San Francisco. Known as the Russell Warren House, it is one of only a handful of properties in San Francisco listed on the National Registry of Historic Homes. If you're looking to experience San Francisco from the local perspective and immerse yourself in the culture, art and history of this amazing city, this is the place to be! It's walking distance to BART, the Castro, the Mission, Alamo Square and Haight-Ashbury. Union Square, Chinatown, Nob Hill, Fisherman's Wharf, and the Embarcadero are only a short streetcar ride away.
Your room booking includes access to a shared bathroom, kitchen, and living room with TV, Wii, fully stocked bar, garden, laundry facilities and wireless internet service that extends to our beautiful garden oasis. We occupy the master suite and rent out the guest room for this listing. If you are looking for both bedrooms, please see our separate listing for the same property where we rent out the entire flat for $300/night.
Our home survived the 1906 earthquake and has many original charming details including a working marble fireplace, chandeliers, crown moulding and hardwood floors throughout. The garden is very comfortable with a cozy sectional and a gas fire pit with azure glass.
When renting the guest room, you share the flat with your hosts, Dave and Allison and Chacho the very nervous little chihuhua. Allison likes to cook and is available to prepare breakfast, snacks and even dinner on occasion if you care to join us. Our guests often like to join us as we entertain guests for dinner parties and holidays. It's the best way to really experience what it's like to live and thrive in San Francisco.
Our home is cozy and beautiful and we love hosting. We know San Francisco very well and are passionate about our city. Our philosophy about hosting is that once you become our guest, you're family, so there's never a stranger in our home! Please take some time to read our reviews, they speak volumes about our hospitality. We're a 5 star establishment, and your comfort is our priority.
The guest bedroom includes unique design touches and original art we're sure you'll enjoy. We provide plush robes, bath sheets and hand towels for your comfort and convenience. We finish to room with local chocolates on your pillow by Littlejohn's - a SF based company owned by a friend-to give you the full SF boutique hotel experience. The guest room is stocked with maps, tour books and local publications to help you plan your daily adventures. We're frequently available to help you map our your sights to help you get around the city and make the most of your time here. We provide breakfast pastries, granola, yogurt, fruit, coffee and juice for our guests and, on occasion, a custom breakfast prepared just for you.
Our garden is a small, sunny gem rich with flowers, blooming jasmine, a fountain and our very own apple tree. We have comfortable new patio furniture and a variety of gorgeous flora and hummingbirds that will make you forget that you're in the heart of a major international city as you enjoy the buzzing of the hummingbirds and sip a glass of wine or your morning coffee.
Our neighborhood is safe, friendly and central to public transportation, boutique shopping, hip restaurants, pubs, and nightclubs. Within just a few blocks you'll find German, Italian, Japanese, French, Mediterranean, Thai and Soul food.
We also have bikes and helmets for rent for $25/day if you want to explore SF like a local!
PARKING: Just like any large city, parking can be a challenge. There are several parking garages that charge $20-45/night throughout town, the closest is Civic Center Garage. Generally in residential neighborhoods there is free 2 hour parking unless you have a resident parking sticker issued from the city. Just make sure you read ALL the signs in the area to avoid a ticket (street cleaning, construction, etc). The neighborhoods aren't patrolled as much by Parking Enforcement, but occasionally they do come by. After 2 years and well over 100+ guests, only 1 guest has gotten a ticket (they blocked a driveway). So, while the odds are in your favor not to get a ticket, the possibility is there. Just please read the signs...
CHECK IN 2 pm or later - CHECK OUT 11 am. If you must check in early, we'll try to accommodate but we often have back to back bookings. Thank you for understanding.
We look forward to helping you make your visit to San Francisco unforgettable.
The entire flat is for you to use as are our washer and dryer and garden. Please spread out and make yourself at home.
Interaction with Guests
We're frequently available to provide guidance, discussion about SF culture, history and events and generally are around the flat based on our work obligations and travel plans. We also know how to respect boundaries and are not offended if you need some time to yourselves. We're easy going and available to you as needed for advice and suggestions.
Our neighborhood is one of the hottest in San Francisco. Although Airbnb has us listed as Western Addition, we are actually in Hayes Valley as listed by the city and county of San Francisco. Hayes Valley has cool boutiques, funky shops, coffee shops, art and parks galore. We're close to Japantown, the Castro, the Mission, Alamo Square and the Haight. Golden Gate Park is a short bus ride away as is Union Square, Fisherman's Wharf, the Embarcadero, Coit Tower, North Beach and Chinatown. We are literally in the middle of the city, with easy access to all of the sites you want to see. Our neighborhood is safe for walking, has a vibrant nightlife, sun (in the sunny months) and amazing food. Within 4 blocks in any direction we have French, American, Soul food, Mediterranean, Lebanese, German, Italian, Japanese (incredible sushi!), Thai and Chinese. This place is hip, funky, fun, safe and central, what more could you want? If you think of something, mention it to us and we'll try to help you find it.
The F Line to Fisherman's Wharf and the cable car line is 4 blocks from us. The 71, which will take you to Haight Ashbury and Golden Gate Park one way, downtown the other, is two blocks away. The J line to AT&T park is 5 blocks from us. Our house is centrally located to bus lines you need to go anywhere in the city you want to go. San Francisco has one of the best public transportation systems in the world so don't rent a car to get around, it will only be a hassle. If you must rent a car for some reason, check out SFMTA for a visitors parking pass so you can park on the street without the worry of a ticket. Almost all parking in San Francisco is 2 hour street parking or metered and you don't want to risk a pricy parking ticket.
Please don't leave our door unlocked or ajar at any time- the dog is waiting for an opportunity to escape. Laundry facilities are available but no loads after 8 P.M. Out of courtesy for our downstairs neighbor. Check out is at 11:00 AM but if you need to leave luggage here after that time it isn't a problem for us to hold it for you- just please have it all packed (you'd be surprised at some who haven't!).
If you cook in our kitchen, please clean up after yourselves. The same goes for all of the common areas, particularly the bathroom. We like to keep our home looking beautiful to enhance your experience and ours.
The guest room accommodates 2 comfortably. We do not allow additional guests (with the exception of infants that sleep in the room with the parents) except when the entire flat is rented out. When the entire flat is rented, it accommodates up to 6 guests.
Allison and Dave are the most welcoming hosts you can imagine. Be prepared to be flooded with drinks and information about the town and the area on your arrival. You will love Chicho, the shy little dog and have a great time in their very special and stylish house. We'd love to come back for longer some times,
My daughter and I spent four nights with David and Allison in their lovely home in April 2015. We were greeted with a bottle of chilled white wine and a tour and history of the home. David spent time finding out what our interests were and helping us map out some perfect itineraries. We loved the house, the neighborhood was located within easy walking distance of the neighborhoods we wanted to spend time in (Mission, Castro, Haight), and public transportation to the wharf was close by. They are delightful hosts who have worked hard to think of everything their guests need. We loved getting to know them and being in their beautiful space.
My wife and I had the pleasure of staying at Allison and Dave's for three days last week. They are absolutely great hosts--very warm, hospitable, welcoming and helpful. They were genuinely interested in helping to make our visit to San Francisco a good one. It's clear that they love the city and we're always willing to answer questions and provide suggestions concerning places to visit and restaurants to try. All their suggestions and directions were spot on. Additionally, they have done quite a nice job decorating their home. The result is that it's warm, inviting, interesting, and creative--very tastefully reinforcing the fact that you're in San Francisco. Their home is conveniently located in a great part of town. Based on our experience, we highly recommend Allison and Dave's " lovely, historic Italiante house."
I would like to have a better English to describe how wonderful has been espend my time with Allison. She is a beautiful woman with a big heart and prepare the best smoothies I ever taste in my live. The house is all that you can dream in this city. Really amazing decoration and for me the best location. These days remain in my memories forever. I wish the best to Allison and Dave. Thank you very much.
This was my first time using AirBnB. Flying out to San Francisco for a Bar Association meeting, I decided I wanted a different experience than the usual convention hotel provided. A friend suggested I try AirBnB. Frankly, I can't imagine how it could have been any better. The entire process was easy and convenient, and gave me exactly the experience I was seeking.
I travel a lot. I've stayed at some of the finest hotels and bed and breakfasts in the world. I would easily put my stay with Allison and Dave against any other.
Allison and David are marvelous hosts: welcoming, friendly, and easy to talk to. They truly made me feel right at home, like a long time friend visiting for them for the week.
Even before arriving, they were wonderful hosts and ambassadors for the city, providing one fantastic recommendation after another: places to visit, meals to eat, and access to the best of San Francisco's art and entertainment.
Their centrally located home is beautifully decorated. Beyond the stunning architecturally important house itself, fascinating and diverse collection of art, instruments, and historical pieces that all flow together throughout. The bed and bedroom were more than comfortable (that's an understatement, the bed is awesome and the pillows were perfect). I wish my home was this clean, comfortable and well organized.
Can't recommend them highly enough.
Alison and David are awesome. They were so thoughtful and considerate. We felt we were at our home. We celebrated our new year( Persian New Year) and they were so excited to find out about our culture and traditions before we arrived. When we saw they put Haycinth flower and Hafiz book for us we were so impress .Hafiz is a famous poem in Iran and Haycintch flower is one of the items in 7seen table.
Thank you dear Alison and David
We had a wonderful time at Allison and Dave's home. They were incredibly welcoming and very accommodating. We felt right at home in San Francisco and had a truly unique experience.
We are a nice couple who work in Emergency Medicine in San Francisco. With such intense jobs, we understand the extremes of human experience and behavior. We've also been together for many years and are still very much in love with one another. We have a diverse community of friends who enrich our lives on many levels.
We're down to earth, enjoy entertaining, cooking, art, hiking, concerts and photography among other things. We love adventure and travel and enjoy meeting new people. We also enjoy nesting at home and our home reflects our diverse interests and keen value for comfort and beauty.
We're long-time Burners, too, so we have a creative spirit to us and a strong sense of community and social responsibility. People often describe us as being very open, warm and accepting. I think it's probably true, as you will be greeted with a hug and a smile (and, sometimes, cookies!) and will often feel like you're visiting long-time friends.
We've lived in the Bay Area for 10+ years after re-locating from the East Coast. We love our city and are eager to show it off.
We look forward to meeting you!
