Looking for all the perks of a hotel while staying at a house in the country? This tranquil, light filled room overlooks horse pastures and a dirt road in the heart of Old Chatham hunt country. A private entrance leads to a guest suite which includes a queen size bed, sitting area, kitchenette with refrigerator and microwave, and walk-in closet. Located on the first floor of a newly built, net-zero home. Solar electric supply power and solar hot water panels provide for guilt-free hot showers!

The space
A perfect place for someone looking for their own space (the suite is locked off from the rest of the house) that is clean, new, and a pet free environment.

Summer 2020: Due to Covid-19 extra cleaning precautions will be taken and the suite will be vacant 24 hours before check-in and after check-out. A 4 night minimum is required.

Local gourmet tea (Harney and Sons) and coffee (Irving Farms), coffee maker, soda and selzter as well as toiletries are provided. Unfortunately there are no cooking facilities but many local restaurants are doing take-out.

Guest access
Guests have access to the suite and patio.

Other things to note
Many guests stay with me because they are seeking an allergy-free environment so I have a strict no pets or smoking policy. Unfortunately you do need a car to access the property: Uber and/or Lyft can be unreliable. I do have a small Jack Russell terrier and horse that live on the property.

Welcome to Making the Turn Farm, a net-zero, energy efficient home I designed and oversaw the construction of myself. All energy for the house comes from solar. I serve as a biologist for the United States Department of Agriculture Natural Resources Conservation Service (USDA NRCS) in the Hudson Valley. As a certified Holistic Management educator, I work with landowners to improve soil health and biological diversity on their farm or forest. I am an avid horseback rider and member of the Old Chatham Hunt Club where I enjoy foxhunting and beagling. I received a bachelor’s degree in biology from Mount Holyoke College and also attended King’s College London.

During your stay
The suite is located on the first floor of my house so you may hear me on occasion. I also have a super friendly Jack Russell terrier and you may hear her pitter-patter. The suite is however blocked off from the rest of the house. This suite is prepared for a simple self-check in process. I provide instructions for self-check in prior to arrival which includes your own code to the door lock key pad. I am always available by phone.
