About This Listing
Enjoy the natural beauty of Santa Barbara minutes from the beaches, attractions, wineries, and downtown shopping and restaurants. Cottage in the Oaks offers a peaceful, private getaway opening onto a lovely mountain view deck shaded by oaks.
Very cozy and peaceful cottage nestled in beautiful oaks accommodates one or a cozy two adults (children under 12, babies, and pets cannot be accommodated). A compact 160 square feet, the Cottage is comprised of a tiny living room with sofa, mini bedroom with double (not queen) bed, and bathroom with shower. (People over 6'2"- do think about your comfort as it is small.) A mini-kitchen with microwave, hot plate, dishes, and mini frig round out the amenities. French doors open onto a full deck with expansive mountain view. One extremely personable cat patrols the premises and will visit if you like. Off street parking is included.
The Cottage is fairly secluded and private with the main house about 50 feet away. You have considerable privacy and freedom to come as go as you like without worry of disturbing anyone.
Located in a safe and eclectic neighborhood, the Cottage has a rural "country" feel just a minute off the highway. You're less than ten minutes to everything from UCSB and the airport to downtown, the waterfront, parks, and several beaches. It's located near the foot of the pass that takes you to the wine county in about 30 minutes.
I am a long time Santa Barbara resident, and happy to assist with plan making and hidden gems of the area.
Located in Santa Barbara's sunbelt when fog may visit the coastline, the Cottage offers you natural beauty and a glorious alpenglow after your day at the attractions.
• You and your baggage will need to negotiate stone stairs and a stone path to reach the Cottage. Those with walking issues may want a more level property. See the picture of the stairs.
• I have ceased charging a cleaning fee. This is not a hotel-- you are a guest! I ask that guests leave the Cottage as a house guest would: tidy with dishes washed, trash taken out, and used linens piled for the laundry.
• The Cottage is intended for one or two people over 12 years old without pets. More information on policies and amenities under "house rules."
For weekly or longer stays, a discount can be negotiated.
Interaction with Guests
I love interacting with guests, but want to respect the guests' maximum privacy. I won't come up to the Cottage except to greet you or answer a question, but welcome interactions, and always welcome a chat.
There are bus stops within walking distance, and easy bikeways to downtown. For the most part, a car is your best option.
Other Things to Note
The Cottage is near an open space, so you're likely to see and hear a variety of birds, and if you're lucky, local wildlife. Two open space areas are within walking distance.
• Check in is 2 p.m. and checkout noon. If nobody is coming in ahead or you or after, those can occasionally be extended.
• I cannot accommodate pets, extra guests, nor guests under 12 years old. The maximum is two adults.
• The property is non-smoking inside and out
• Refrain from the use of candles, barbecues, incense, or anything that lights with a match for safety reasons.
• It's a quiet neighborhood so quiet behavior respectful of the neighbors is needed.
• Kindly treat and leave the Cottage as you would as a house guest. Upon departure, please wash your dishes, take out the trash, and pile your used linens.
• Travelers are welcome to use the washer and dryer.
The cat is more than welcome to visit with you all you want- just put him out before you go to bed, so I can call him in and keep him safe.
You'll find included: fresh towels, sundries (soap, shampoo, conditioner), a coffee maker and coffee, teapot, pots, pans, and dishes, a mini refrigerator, hot plate, microwave, wireless Internet, space heaters, fan, first aid kit, fire extinguisher and smoke alarm.
My boyfriend and I stayed here for two nights, one night which we basically just arrived late at night and slept.
This cottage was completely private, small, but cozy, with a private bathroom and even a kitchen.
Kris was great with offering recommendations for places to eat and responded back to our questions quickly.
Her cat, Cheddar, is just a darling! He is extremely friendly and inviting. We even let him in and he made himself right at home on our bed :)
All in all, I had a very pleasant stay here and would recommend to any couple to stay here!
This is a nice quiet bungalow. Nice amendments and a good hostesses
It's small by hotel and most apartment standards.
My girlfriend and I were in town for a whirlwind wedding weekend and this guesthouse was perfect for us!
It was very clean and well organized when we arrived. Kris was incredibly prompt in her responses and made herself available to us as needed. Her and her cat Cheddar are both wonderful. We would absolutely return/recommend this spot to others.
Kris was a lovely host who accommodated us at last minute and made us feel very welcome. Chedder, Kris's cat, was also lovely and friendly. Kris's cottage was well equipped and had everything we needed. It has a beautiful view of the hills and a deck area to sit out on and enjoy it. It was a very short drive into Santa Barbara, where we found parking was easy. We had a fantastic time staying at Kris's, thank you so much for making it a great experience.
My stay at Cottage in the Oaks was wonderful. Kris had thought of everything a guest would need and provided it. The cottage was clean, neat, and comfortable. The neighborhood was quiet and relaxing. I got to meet Kris, which was an added bonus. She is a kind and responsive host.
Kris was a welcoming host and helped with advice on hikes and local restaurants. Cheddar the cat was friendly and personable. The bnb was small but comfortable and in in peaceful setting - just what I was looking for. In addition, when my daughter developed a medical issue, Kris was kind and offered to help. Thank you, Kris!
