Enjoy the natural beauty of Santa Barbara minutes from the beaches, attractions, wineries, and downtown shopping and restaurants. Cottage in the Oaks offers a peaceful, private getaway opening onto a lovely mountain view deck shaded by oaks.
Cozy, peaceful cottage nestled in beautiful oaks accommodates one or a cozy two adults (children under 12, babies, and pets cannot be accommodated). A compact 160 square feet, the Cottage is comprised of a tiny living room with sofa, mini bedroom with double (not queen) bed, bathroom with shower, and mini-kitchen with microwave, hot plate, dishes, and mini frig. French doors open onto a full deck with expansive mountain view. One friendly cat patrols the premises and will visit if you like. Off street parking is included.
The Cottage is fairly secluded and private with the main house about 50 feet away. You have considerable privacy and freedom to come as go as you like without worry of disturbing anyone.
Located in a safe and eclectic neighborhood, the Cottage has a rural "country" feel just a minute off the highway. You're less than ten minutes to everything from UCSB and the airport to downtown, the waterfront, parks, and several beaches. It's located near the foot of the pass that takes you to the wine county in about 30 minutes.
I am a long time Santa Barbara resident, and happy to assist with plan making and hidden gems of the area.
Located in Santa Barbara's sunbelt when fog may visit the coastline, the Cottage offers you natural beauty and a glorious alpenglow after your day at the attractions.
• You and your baggage will need to negotiate stone stairs and a stone path to reach the Cottage. Those with walking issues may want a more level property. See the picture of the stairs.
• I have ceased to charge a cleaning fee. This is not a hotel and you are a guest. I ask that guests leave the Cottage as a house guest would: tidy with dishes washed, trash taken out, and used linens piled for the laundry.
• The Cottage is intended for one or two people over 12 years old without pets. More information on policies and amenities under "house rules."
For weekly or longer stays, a discount can be negotiated.
Interaction with Guests
I love interacting with guests, but want to respect the guests' maximum privacy. I won't come up to the Cottage except to greet you or answer a question, but welcome interactions, and always welcome a chat.
There are bus stops within walking distance, and easy bikeways to downtown. For the most part, a car is your best option.
Other Things to Note
The Cottage is near an open space, so you're likely to see and hear a variety of birds, and if you're lucky, local wildlife. Two open space areas are within walking distance.
• Check in is 2 p.m. and checkout noon. If nobody is coming in ahead or you or after, those can occasionally be extended.
• I cannot accommodate pets, extra guests, nor guests under 12 years old. The maximum is two adults.
• The property is non-smoking inside and out
• Refrain from the use of candles, barbecues, incense, or anything that lights with a match for safety reasons.
• It's a quiet neighborhood so quiet behavior respectful of the neighbors is needed.
• Kindly treat and leave the Cottage as you would as a house guest. Upon departure, please wash your dishes, take out the trash, and pile your used linens.
• Travelers are welcome to use the washer and dryer.
The cat is more than welcome to visit with you all you want- just put him out before you go to bed, so I can call him in and keep him safe.
You'll find included: fresh towels, sundries (soap, shampoo, conditioner), a coffee maker and coffee, teapot, pots, pans, and dishes, a mini refrigerator, hot plate, microwave, wireless Internet, space heaters, fan, first aid kit, fire extinguisher and smoke alarm.
This was the absolute cutest place ever. It was very clean and well kept and the pictures were extremely accurate. Although we didn't get a chance to meet Kris, she was very responsive via e-mail and did leave us a sweet note on our last day. I highly recommend this listing.
Kris was a warm and welcoming host, the studio was exactly as advertised, and the neighborhood was quiet, pretty, and (best of all for my purposes) close to where my daughter lives, within easy reach of both Santa Barbara proper and Goleta/UCSB.
Kris was wonderful! definitely our type of person, very helpful and accommodating. Her cottage was clean, cozy and so peaceful. a great place to come home to at the end of each day having adventures around Santa Barbara. Her kitty cheddar was very loving and respectful as well. highly recommend staying there!
Kris was very friendly. She greeted us and made sure that we were comfortable and then gave us privacy. The place was small but comfortable.
I travel to Santa Barbara at least monthly. I've now stayed at four places, and this is the best value I've found. Small, granted, and quiet and peaceful. Spring and summer upcoming will be lovely.
Cottage in the Oaks is calm quiet cozy abode that makes a great base from which to explore Santa Barbara. The deck area is a fantastic place to chill, drink coffee and plan the day's excursions and relax when they are over. Kris was very helpful with beach and restaurant suggestions and even offered to let me borrow her bike for a local club ride. Cheddar is a very friendly cat who will introduce himself on your arrival. Awesome trip.
Me and my boyfriend Justin had a wonderful experience staying with Kris! The cottage was just as described...very intimate which was perfect for our weekend of relaxation. Cheddar the cat is theeee sweetest little guy, he greeted us as we pulled up and lounged with us while we were in the cottage- he made us both so happy. Kris and I exchanged a hug upon meeting; shes that approachable and easy going. She gave us plenty ideas and let us borrow her guide book and wine membership card. She gave us the luxury of privacy but was also always available when needed. She was the perfect hostess, I can't wait until we visit again!
