Quaint beach cottage located in the friendly beach community of Summerland, Ca., The weather is so mild here it is often called the American version of the Mediterranean in Europe. A 5 minute walk from the house down to the beach, 5 minute drive along HWY 101 which runs up and down the California coastline, to Santa Barbara. Bright and sunny with lovely ocean views from most windows, nice garden area, with picnic table, a patio, and an old stone fireplace.
Cute tiled bathroom with full bath/shower. 2 bedrooms each with queen size beds. Bright furnished kitchen area, with Wedgewood stove, fridge, and washing machine/dryer. Walk to our charming Cape Cod style downtown community and, browse around the many shops and antique stores that Summerland has become famous for. The Summerland Cafe is a great place to take the family for a robust breakfast and lunch' The Nugget is a famous place to eat too since President Clinton and President Reagen chose the Nugget as their favorite dining spot. Or stroll on down to Lookout Park, and take a relaxing long walk on the beach all the way down to Padaro Lane, homes of many famous people like Kevin Costner.
A 5 minute drive takes you to downtown Santa Barbara, where you can visit the Mission, the Court House, or the Harbor and all of the popular tourist attractions. This cottage was a great stay for us. It was plenty of space for my wife and I, plus our 14 month old son. It's 1960s charm was a. Ice change of pace. The location cannot be beat as it's 10 mins from Santa Barbara. Summers communication were great and she even stocked some small supplies in the kitchen for us. A few things travelers should know: yes you can hear the 101 and train, but it didn't bother us at all. The house was easily cooled by opening windows and closing curtains. It is a throwback to the 60s, with few frills. This made for a charming stay and overall a great experience.

What a wonderful retreat this was. Summer was very easy to communicate with and even asked if we needed anything in the fridge when we arrived (she had juice for us on arrival). RE: TRAFFIC NOISE- My wife and I are both from large cities so the freeway sounds barely registered with us. RE: TRAIN NOISE- A few train whistles during the day and maybe once at night. I'm a light sleeper and it woke me up one of the three nights we were there. My wife is a moderate to heavy sleeper and didn't wake up once. RE: "OUT-DATED DÉCOR"-The pictures are a pretty accurate representation of the house so...if you don't like the pictures...don't book the house. In short this is a very comfortable home (not a hotel) with a pretty outdoor area. Perfect is you want a low-key place to relax.

Summerland house is located on a hill overlooking the ocean. The views from the living picture window are lovely. Morning coffee sitting on the comfortable couch with the view of vast Pacific Ocean is the perfect way to start your day! The neighborhood is quaint and there a few stores and restaurants in walking distance. The good and bad thing about the location is the proximity to the freeway. Great for when you are traveling between the nearby cities like Santa Barbara and Ventura but bad because of the noise. We found closing the windows in the evening help though. Summer is an excellent host, offering to have a few staples in the fridge for us so we would be set for the next morning and made suggestions for things to do in the area. Her home is fully equip with all the things you need including a lovely backyard with a fireplace and plenty of hummingbirds to memorize you while you unwind in the CA sunshine.

Super cute cottage fully equipped for a comfortable stay. It was private, with an ocean view, quiet neighborhood, and close to everything. Summer was a great host!

This is the most amazing place. The best part was the incredible view of the ocean and the walking distance to the quiet beach. We saw cute dogs and horses being walked while we strolled on the beach. Many people were collecting sea glass which apparently is the perfect place to find it in Summerland. I slept with the windows open at night for a cool, comfortable breeze. Summer is a great host and answered by text or phone call immediately the few times we needed her. She supplied everything we needed. It is very close to Santa Barbara by car if that is your intended destination and a beautiful drive from there. We plan to return.

My family (consisting of my husband, 2 year old son and myself) had a great time staying at Summer's place. The home was spacious and clean. Summer left some goodies (donuts and chocolates) to welcome us upon arrival, which were appreciated! It was nice to have the 2 separate bedrooms and the space in the house and backyard for my son to play. We also enjoyed the cute restaurants, coffee shops, beach and park that were just a short walk away. Additionally, the location had great accessibility to the freeway, so it was easy to get to Santa Barbara, Buelton, Carpenteria, Ojai and the surrounding areas. We had a great weekend!

I was born in Edinburgh, Scotland, and have lived here in Summerland for over 30 years now. I love this area, the beach, the weather, all the great hikes, and being so close to the city of Santa Barbara, yet living in a small friendly community at the same time.
