Other Things to Note
When you make a reservation for a certain number of people, if you later want to add more friends, you must have my permission before they can stay here
Dog guests must be house trained. Also, please don't leave your dogs alone, unattended in the house, when you go out.
Summer's house is in a great location. The location on a hill affords one an amazing view of the ocean and the sunset.
The beds are really comfortable. The kitchen is spacious.
Summer communicated frequently in the process to make sure things went smoothly.
This place is lovely. The view from every room is spectacular. The backyard garden seating is the perfect place to enjoy your morning coffee or evening glass of wine. The house is quirky and sweet. It is not high end or fancy - just cozy and homey and the price for the area can't be beat. The beach at Summerland is quiet and low-key - we often saw sea lions on our morning walk. Seriously - this place is where you want to stay! Summer was an amazing host - I knew she was just a text or phone call away but everything ran so smoothly there was never a need to contact her. Highly recommended!
We recently stayed at this air bnb. the photos and reviews looked excellent, so we were very much looking forward to our stay here. The view was breath taking, but we were quite disappointed with the accommodations. This home is quite old, which in itself would not be a problem, but we did find it to be very shabby and in need of an update. The beds were very comfortable, but the couches and chair in the living room were extremely uncomfortable. The kitchen was not very well equipped. There was not even an electric coffee maker. The dishes were fine, but the silverware was so bad I would not even use it on a camping trip, and the paring knives were very dull. In addition, there were no folding beach chairs you could take down to the beach with you, and not enough outside chairs for four in the back yard. In addition, the bathroom is very shabby and outdated.
The only good things about this place were the beautiful view and the fact that, although it was old and shabby, it was very clean.
We feel the title of this air bnb is misleading. It is not a "charming beach cottage" at all, as there is a freeway running between the house and the ocean. We also feel that when you are paying close to $300 a night, the very least the host could do would be to provide a comfortable place to sit and visit in the evenings! It would not take very much money to improve this little place and it would be a huge boost to Summer as far as getting return business.
We certainly will not ever go back here.
We would not recommend this bed and breakfast to anyone.
Hi Dan, I don't know where to begin with all of your criticisms and complaints, especially since you never said a word to me personally while you were here. Many of them seem so trivial. Probably better to let the other 80 plus positive reviews of people who had a wonderful time staying here, speak for themselves, and wish you well
You remind me of that famous saying "One man's weed is another man's rose"
Summer and her Beach Cottage are both Fabulous. The cottage is situated on a lovely hill over looking the ocean and just a short walk away to restaurants, shops and the beach. Summer's back yard is gorgeous and perfect for enjoying your morning coffee or evening glass of wine. Summer was very attentive and helpful with all questions we had. I would definitely return.
Summer was wonderful as was her home. This was my first airbnb ad experience and Summer made it a memorable one. She even left information for a local realtor. Highly recommended
Summer's lovely house is bright, super clean, and lovely. The backyard is sunny and full of flowers, and the house is well-decorated, colorful, and has a view of the ocean. It is close to the freeway, but with the door closed in the bedrooms it isn't too loud. It's just a five minute walk to a beautiful beach with gorgeous cliffs, and a fast drive to Carpinteria and Rincon to the south and the town of Santa Barbara to the north.
We loved staying here! We never met Summer, but she was a great host, responded quickly to our emails and texts, and suggested hikes. The fridge was stocked with treats.
We enjoyed our time in Summerland! It was a bit cool and rainy when we visited and it was nice to return home to the cottage and enjoy the warm fire. Summer was an excellent host responding quickly to e-mails and even offering to stock the fridge with a few essentials. Summerland is very dog friendly too which meant we didn't have to leave our little one behind!
I was born in Edinburgh, Scotland, and have lived here in Summerland for over 30 years now. I love this area, the beach, the weather, all the great hikes, and being so close to the city of Santa Barbara, yet living in a small friendly community at the same time.
