This loft has been in our family for 40 years. Artist owned and authentic. It will transport you back to 1975 Soho. Great vibrant and safe neighborhood. Prime SoHo. Our loft faces the building courtyard so nights are quiet.
Our loft is a quiet and calm place. It has original loft details, airy with high ceilings, and lots of great artwork on the walls. It is in the middle of Soho so you can take advantage of all it has to offer and then drop back in for a rest. Same block as the Mercer Hotel.
There are 2 bedrooms. One with a queen bed that closes with curtains. The other bedroom is very small, has a twin bed and closes with a door. We have also left a queen size air mattress to the side of the couch if you would like to use it. There is one bathroom. It is a loft that was split into 2 large apartments. There is a common hallway and then 2 separate doors (with locks of course) leading to separate apartments. The laundry is in the common hallway and is shared with the other apartment. There is a TV, a Bose sound system and an X-Box. Wi-Fi access. The kitchen is great to cook in. We have a beautiful 1930's gas stove, but you have to light the pilots! Also a microwave, toaster, press-pot coffee maker.
Interaction with Guests
Some one will give you the keys, and meet you to pick up the keys at the end of the stay. If you have any questions someone will be available. If your stay is longer than one week, there will be someone to clean once a week.
We are in Prime Soho, just steps to wonderful restraunts and shopping. within a few blocks you will find yourself on some of the more quaint streets full of cafe's and small boutiques.
We are 1 1/2 blocks from the N, R, F, D, B and 6 lines. A short walk to the East Village, West Village or Lower East Side. Short subway or cab ride to Chelsea. Easy to get to anywhere in Manhattan or Brooklyn.
Have fun! Just don't destroy the place. If you use the stove please make sure you turn the gas off completely after using.
James and his father in law were lovely hosts and we loved the apartment and its position. You need to be aware that its an old apartment and we felt a new set of bed linen would be appreciated by guests. Things seem a little in need of some repairs and maintenance but this didnt detract from our stay. Thanks
As a New Yorker who just moved out of the city, I find it impossible to stay in hotels when I visit. This apartment gave me access to an old-school Soho space, next to all my favorite restaurants and located close to any downtown neighborhood I would want to go to. I didn't take one taxi and only took the subway once -- it's even easy to walk up to Chelsea! James was a perfect host. He communicated fast and arranged for his father-in-law, Paul, to meet me at the apartment (he also lives next door). Paul was sweet and a true NYC artist. The apartment was so authentic and just a really cool New York experience. I had plenty of towels and it was super quiet. Would definitely stay again!
Very cool place in a super situation. Perfect for young people wishing to experience the trendy part of New York. Will be back anytime. Eccentric, quirky but clean (and safe).
This is a great apartment in the heart of trendy Soho. It have great subway links to places like Time Square and Central Park and was a reasonably close walk to the World Trade site and Staten Island ferry to see the Statue of Liberty. It was also easy enough to get to from JFK airport being only a direct subway line to a stop around the corner from the apartment.
Definitely consider booking this apartment again!
We arrived at James loft to be greeted by Paul with the keys in hand. The loft was just as described, authentic and eccentric Soho loft! The location was perfect! We were there to visit a few colleges. NYU was a 10 minute walk away. Yale was a 2 hour train ride to New Haven. The cafes, shopping and transportation were all walking distance. We had a great time in Soho! We would highly recommend staying at James loft.
James and his loft were both beyond expectations. Very cool space by very cool eco-friendly folks. Great location that is quiet and private. Recommend highly and will look there first next time I stay in Soho.
I'm an easy-going know-it-all type. I love to travel and fly fish around the globe. I'm also a collector of vintage Americana and minimalist art.
I love our location. While the streets of soho are crazy busy on the weekends - it's super quiet on weekdays. Great shopping and people watching. It never gets old. You'll love the architecture in soho too. A very unique district.
Our apt is very authentic "old-style" soho. My wife is a stylist and has her own clothing line - her visual aesthetic is ever-present here. It's the real deal and any lover of the 70's soho art scene will feel right at home. It's like a time machine really - it'll transport you right back to 1975 SoHo (but without the crime).
Enjoy the city and never stop travel'n!
