Located on an organic farm just 16 miles from Asheville, this cozy cabin is completely off the grid. Built mostly of reclaimed materials, we enjoy solar power, pure spring water, a pond fed by a rushing creek, exhilarating walks, spectacular views, birding, fireflies on summer nights and stargazing with no street lights or noise interference.

The space
The house sits right in the middle of an 80 acre organic farm which was placed in a landtrust /conservation easement several years ago. The farm is surrounded by another 130 acres of preserved land, also entrusted to the same conservancy. The house is run primarily on solar, heated with wood and cooled with windows and fans. There are no power lines or generators. We hear the creek, birds, frogs, crickets, cicadas, an occasional coyote...
The spring and summer songbirds call you to witness the beauty of sunrise.
In the fall, the leaves turn to brilliant shades of flame eventually drifting to the ground so the trails become rustling magic carpets.
The winter is so quiet, you can hear the snowflakes falling.

Guest access
Guests have access to two great hiking trails, one a moderate shady hike in the woods, the other a rather strenuous hike to the top of Pinnacle Knob which awards a panoramic view of the Blue Ridge skyline overlooking Asheville and the surrounding area. After the hike, a nice cold dip in the pond is a wonderfully refreshing reward (or you can foregoe the hike and just relax at the pond or play in the creek).
Feel free to harvest organic vegetables from the house garden and fruit from the orchards when in season. The house has internet, phone, cards, games, a cabinet of art/craft supplies, books, an old school VCR with some vintage (mostly kid friendly) flicks and a few instruments. But mercifully, no TV.

Other things to note
*The final stretch of the road to my house is unpaved. It is easily passable, but take it slow and exercise caution. There are no streetlights. If arriving after dark, a flashlight or headlamp is highly recommended.
*The house does not have central heat/air. It is heated with wood. Cooled with windows and fans.

I am a western NC native, an organic gardener, outdoor enthusiast, amateur musician, beekeeper, globe trotter and proud mom. Primarily, I am an artist (painter, sculptor, printmaker). My imagery often merges ancient styles and subjects with contemporary issues and/or current events. I have been teaching art for almost twenty years, creating it for twenty more. I am committed to promoting and facilitating public art at all levels. I love interacting with people world wide through the airbnb network, both as a host and a guest. It is a wonderful way to connect and share and it brightens my faith in the good side of humanity. "Love one another" -JC Warm regards, Eva
