Our party of 11 rented out the entire apartment which consists of three bedrooms, each with its own private bath. Flat-screen televisions are in each room (all the channels were in Italian, a bonus for those of us who speak Italian). The well-lit hallway connecting the three rooms had a long counter under which was located the small refrigerator, where we stored our water and milk during our two-night stay. Use of the Nespresso machine, making instant espresso, was also available to us. It has been newly renovated with lovely showers, all-new fixtures and furniture. There is an elevator, too, but since the apartment is on the first floor we never used it. Bedrooms #1 and #3 are wonderfully spacious, each perfect for an average-sized family of five and have air-conditioning units. The middle bedroom #2 is the smallest of the three, yet has a slightly larger bathroom and the only one with a window. Though it lacks air-conditioning, it makes up for itself in charm: a small window seat the perfect perch to enjoy your morning coffee, enjoying the sights and sounds of early-morning Rome. We slept with the window open and shutters partially-closed in late August and had no problem whatsoever. I'm an early-riser, so hearing the sounds of the grocery distributor across the street starting at six each morning wasn't a problem. Those in the bigger bedrooms with AC didn't hear a thing.
Self-service coffee and some fruit was available on the counter from check-in. For breakfast, we discovered a Despar supermarket a couple blocks down Via Sebastiano Veniero, a good place to stock up on water, fresh milk, yoghurt, biscuits, breads and cheeses for your breakfast. There is a beautiful and expensive restaurant just below the apartment, where we had coffee before checking in. Other than that, the neighborhood is quiet so there is not a whole lot of choice of bars to have a quick breakfast, until you get closer to the Vatican and you find nothing but tourist traps. It's a quiet area so for spending evenings in the exciting and vivacious Centro Storico, you will have to use the Metro-- an additional expense.
The location is perfect for pilgrims going to the Vatican, the entrance to the museums is but a block up the hill. It is a brisk 15-minute walk to St. Peter's square and a 30-minute walk to the Tevere. The Centro Storico (Piazza di Spagna, Fontana di Trevi, Piazza Navona et al) is at least 45 minutes on foot. For arrival on the Metro, our host Octavian suggested we use the Ottiavano metro stop. This is about 5 blocks and takes 15 minutes. We discovered the Via Cipro stop is half the distance though a bit less straight-forward. Once you get your bearings straight, use the Via Cipro stop to get to/from the apartment. I would recommend this tidy and neat apartment for self-sufficient couples or large groups (we were two families) who don't mind a lot of walking.
