About This Listing
Amazing location a couple of blocks from downtown Palo Alto and Stanford University. Super comfy bed with great view of cherry blossoms.
See my other room "Garden Room - Walking distance to Stanford" for more pictures.
Sweet room with dormer window looking out onto cherry blossom trees. Full size bed with new mattress, pillows and linens folds into a sofa when not in use. Freshly painted and decorated with original art. Stocked with a library about Palo Alto, the birthplace of Silicon Valley. Bath with two sinks, double shower, and separate toilet area. Room has lots of storage - six very large drawers one small closet and one storage closet.
The house is a charming remodeled Victorian five blocks from downtown Palo Alto University Avenue and a mile from Stanford University. It is a quiet residential neighborhood with an elementary school across the street. Easy street parking and extremely safe area.
I have a second room listed - "Garden room - walking distance to Stanford." Check it out for more pictures (and to consider all options :-).
Downtown Palo Alto with all of its coffee shops, restaurants, boutiques, high tech start-ups and venture capital offices is a 10 minute walk away in one direction. Town & Country shopping center with even more gorgeous browsing is 10 minutes walk in the other direction.
For those visiting Stanford University, the free shuttle stops at several nearby locations and we can easily get you oriented. I can also arrange a local bike rental (the preferred method for getting around Stanford given the scarcity of parking on campus.)
I have two kids, but they never seem to be around anymore as they are chock full of school, sports, and other activities. Jake, our 20 lb ball of cream fluff pretending to be a dog, keeps me company as I work from home in my artist studio. He is a rescue we have determined to be a "mutta-doodle" (we know he is part poodle and hypo-allergenic with hair vs. fur.)
If you are around for a couple of nights, I can arrange laundry access and some kitchen access. I can arrange for guest passes to a local gym and make reservations at the nearby massage spa. Also happy to be hired for airport pick-ups and drop-offs.
Hablo castellano (de Argentina). Je parle Francais aussi.
I have lived in Palo Alto since 1993, am very familiar with the area attractions, and more than happy to make suggestions for how to spend a free hour or half-day. I hope to make your visit as comfortable and fun as possible.
No smoking on the property.
No visitors to the property without my explicit and prior permission.
Drunken guests are not allowed on the property. If you get drunk during your stay, you will have to find somewhere else to stay until you are sober.
Quiet Time is from 9pm-6:30am. Please have your phones on vibrate, use headphones for media and be quiet coming and going during these hours.
Late arrivals after 9pm: Please arrange to either take a key or have me leave a door unlocked for you. Once you have arrived, please turn off the porch light and lock the door behind you.
Daytime hours: If you would like to relax here during the day, please use your bedroom, the living room or front porch/yard. The kitchen/family room is reserved for family space and please respect the areas that are marked Private.
Meals/Kitchen: You are welcome to make yourself a cup of coffee and partake in the treats my son often bakes and sets out next to the coffee maker on the counter (the young chef’s welcomes contributions from those so inclined in his tip jar.)
We also offer breakfast or dinner for an additional fee by prior arrangement. Nothing fancy, but a hearty meal to keep you going. Also happy to put something in the fridge for you overnight.
Transportation: With some notice, I can usually arrange for a private car ride to or from the airport for $45 each way. I can also pick up or drop off from the local Caltrain station for $5 each way.
Bike rentals: $15/day for use of a hybrid bike (plus helmet and lock) will get you around town easily.
Laundry: I will change your linens once/week unless you ask for more frequent changes. I can also take care of personal laundry for $5/load to wash and dry. There is hamper in your room if you want to use it for this purpose.
Carina was a nice host and communication with her was easy. I arrived a bit early which luckily was no problem - the room was available at noon which was very convenient for me. There was plenty of space to park my bike.
The house and location are nice. The dog wasn't too fond of me so it may have woken some guests up when I arrived late at night. For the rest everything was great!
This was a positive experience. My room was prepared, my host was courteous, and I felt very comfortable being welcomed into her home. This is a quiet place, which was wonderful for a person like me who enjoys peace and quiet after a long day of running around. The locations is very convenient - downtown Palo Alto is about 10 to 15 minutes away. The in home accommodations were certainly sufficient as well.
A few "first world" problems to consider for fellow modern day travelers - the internet connection was on the slower side ( good for browsing, tough for streaming). The walls are thin, so bring head phones and be mindful. The bathroom is shared if the home is full with family members, so again just be mindful of your time and use. No television, so be prepared to entertain yourself with other means if you rely on that.
Overall this was a great experience, and I give it my highest recommendation, and thank my host for her hospitality.
Thrilled that you had a great stay with us! You were an amazing guest who made your bed every morning better than I ever could - guess that military training comes in handy :-)
We were having some trouble with AT&T your week and have since resolved the router and wiring trouble. While I don't know that any residential system will let 3-5 folks stream different movies at the same time, ours is typically much better than you experienced. Thank you for your patience!
The three guest rooms in the house all have shared bathrooms - two upstairs share a bathroom and the downstairs one shares with my son when he is here. There is a third bathroom in the house so no one ever has to wait long for a turn, but given the drought it is especially welcome when guests are mindful of their use. Thank you for being sensitive to that!
Hope your career explorations here went well and would gladly host you again!
It is a nice quiet neighborhood. The room is clean and cozy. I stayed here for two nights; Carina thoughtfully cleaned my room and made my bed the second morning. Julie, Carina's dog, is very friendly. She craves for attention and gives you good company. It was overall a nice experience.
I had an extremely positive stay! The room is cozy, clean, private and pleasant. Thanks, Carina!
Muchas gracias! Sin duda volvería a hospedarme con Carina!
