The Space

Sweet room with dormer window looking out onto cherry blossom trees. Full size bed with new mattress, pillows and linens folds into a sofa when not in use. Freshly painted and decorated with original art. Stocked with a library about Palo Alto, the birthplace of Silicon Valley. Bath with two sinks, double shower, and separate toilet area. Room has lots of storage - six very large drawers one small closet and one storage closet.

The house is a charming remodeled Victorian five blocks from downtown Palo Alto University Avenue and a mile from Stanford University. It is a quiet residential neighborhood with an elementary school across the street. Easy street parking and extremely safe area.

I have a second room listed - "Garden room - walking distance to Stanford." Check it out for more pictures (and to consider all options :-).

Downtown Palo Alto with all of its coffee shops, restaurants, boutiques, high tech start-ups and venture capital offices is a 10 minute walk away in one direction. Town & Country shopping center with even more gorgeous browsing is 10 minutes walk in the other direction.

For those visiting Stanford University, the free shuttle stops at several nearby locations and we can easily get you oriented. I can also arrange a local bike rental (the preferred method for getting around Stanford given the scarcity of parking on campus.)

I have two kids, but they never seem to be around anymore as they are chock full of school, sports, and other activities. Jake, our 20 lb ball of cream fluff pretending to be a dog, keeps me company as I work from home in my artist studio. He is a rescue we have determined to be a "mutta-doodle" (we know he is part poodle and hypo-allergenic with hair vs. fur.)

If you are around for a couple of nights, I can arrange laundry access and some kitchen access. I can arrange for guest passes to a local gym and make reservations at the nearby massage spa. Also happy to be hired for airport pick-ups and drop-offs.

Hablo castellano (de Argentina). Je parle Francais aussi.

I have lived in Palo Alto since 1993, am very familiar with the area attractions, and more than happy to make suggestions for how to spend a free hour or half-day. I hope to make your visit as comfortable and fun as possible.

  • Carina was a wonderful host! Her house was very clean and amazingly quite at night with pretty tree views out the bedroom window! The location was perfect for me with easy walking access to the restaurants and shops on University Ave. I hope I will be able to stay here again.

  • Great location. I came like a thief in the night and left early the next day but had a nice chat with Carina who was most welcoming. She redid the guest areas of the house everything is brand it still smelled fresh paint! The location is the best is you need to be in downtown Palo Alto I just walked the five or so blocks to University Avenue.

  • Carina is a very friendly and helpful host. She's a great person to speak with on a variety of topics, and had excellent suggestions on restaurants and things to check out around the valley and up in SF.

The home is very comfortable and clean, and in a good, safe neighborhood. The location is great - short walk/bike to University Ave, the Caltrain station, and Stanford, yet still quiet and peaceful.

Jake is very very friendly, as well.

  • Lovely host, beautiful art-filled home, clean space, central location. Carina will scale her interaction to your desired level: you can enjoy your privacy or spend time with her family. Room is comfortable, has a great view (citrus tree just outside the window), good storage space, and wifi was reliable. Big plus...I did not see dog hair in my room or notice any pet smells in the home.

  • Carina's place is wonderful - from its great location to its cozy and welcoming host to Jake, the sweetest little dog around. I was in Palo Alto on business and will definitely stay with Carina and her family again. It's nice to feel like you have a "home" when traveling for business sometimes, instead of a hotel.

  • Lovely stay and family. Cozy cottage is close to Stanford in beautiful area. Many bikers and walkers in afternoon; feels very safe and friendly. Nice front yard swing for relaxing. Room was very light and bright, bed comfy with full bathroom access. Carina ran off my plane boarding pass as I didn't have a computer with me. Home-made dinner (yum), and coffee, yoghurt and pastries for breakfast. Carina arranged for neighbor Don to drive me to Stanford Medical Center.

Great place to stay if you're going to be in the area. Feels like home away from home! Highly recommend.

  • My mother spent five days in Carina’s cosy home and she very much enjoyed her stay in the bright and clean room. Carina was a kind and very helpful host, she took time to answer all her questions and made her feel very welcome. For breakfast, she provided ample fruit, bread, yoghurt, coffee and tea.
The house is in a quiet and green residential area, but still very conveniently located, with both downtown Palo Alto and a grocery store just a short walk away. With the bike that my mother rented from Carina, she could easily get to Stanford’s campus.
She wholeheartedly recommends this place and wishes Carina many interesting guests!
