About this listing
Positive vibes in an active, diverse, artsy neighborhood with restaurants (vegan+), coffee shop with wi-fi, bar and grocery within walking distance (this is not common in Detroit). Simple, ecofriendly with 2 guest bedrooms. 3 night min. stay.
Detroit is much like a Berlin; full of creativity, interesting history and the paradox of good and bad sections. This location is in an active, artisitc neighborhood right by the beautiful Belle Isle & approx 2 miles from Downtown. The house is simply decorated with a wonderful porch (they call it the stoop here) to relax on. It is not fancy but clean, natural and beautiful.
DVD player with flat screen is available. Much space in the house and front porch. Access to the backyard for dining and relaxing as is our livingroom. We are in a historic neighborhood close to connective motorways, downtown, the riverwalk and the coolest neighborhood around!
Discount for stays of one month or more-please ask for special offers.
Profits after overhead will go back into the community through alternative school programs, restoration and community greening efforts.
Motto: "Live fully, tread lightly! Less is more."
Buses: one reliable one down Lafayette to Downtown and another reliable one up Woodward. Otherwise Detroit is transport poor as it was the 'Motorcity' and though efforts are working to change this, it takes time. There are bike lanes and flat roads around our house.
Bike: A bike may be available to loan for a small fee as long as you lock it up when parking and take good care.
*conscientious guests are welcome to use everything in common areas-just be gentle and please tell us if you break something.

Interaction with Guests
We love and care about our guests and offer a smoke-free, clean, trustworthy environment with good mattresses and comfortable beds. Smoking is fine outside on the porch or other. Our schedules vary, so interaction may be extensive or limited, depending on the week. Still, we welcome a cuppa and a chat!
Our hood is a mixed, friendly, involved in community and probably one of the coolest neighborhoods around. We have a lot of creative people of different ages trying to forge new lifestyles that are more healthy and sustainable. It is a city so one always needs to be mindful and not flash your wealth about or leave items in your car. Common sense is the best ticket. Also best to rent any car but a Ford.
There's a reliable bus on LaFayette that will take you downtown (#49) and then another up Woodward that will take you to Metro-Detroit like Ferndale, etc. but any other bus is NOT reliable unless it is on the SMART bus circuit (ie. you can go reliably down Jefferson, & Gratiot, etc.). all the way out to Roseville and also East to Grosse Pointe on the SMART bus without a problem. Smart bus from the airport also goes directly downtown and is reliable but a bit slow as it has some stops along the way. Detroit was the Motor-city--don't forget, and though us cyclists are trying to transform it, we have a ways to go. There are cycle lanes and if the weather is decent, it is a good place to cycle although distances can be further than you think.
Cycle for rent at $5 per day, provide your own lock.

We are a HOME, not a hotel or a hostal, so PLEASE:
*COMMUNICATE what you need or desire! Smile! We welcome input!
*Please read 'The Space' & take note of our mottos as we strive to be respectful, treat others equally and are pretty simplistic and easy-going. We would appreciate the same in return. Our relaxed & interactive personalities does not mean we have more time than you; it means we have made a conscious choice to approach life from the perspective of abundance.
A few things we ask to be honored to keep the space tidy:
*Autumn & Winter-Shoes off at front door--communal slippers for use or bring your own.
*please use what you need; just clean it afterwards
*NO EATING IN ROOMS PLEASE! we do not want a rodent problem!
*additional days may be possible if room is still available but they will need to be paid in cash in advance
**wi-fi is available at local coffee shop on corner (open 6 a.m.-6 p.m.); due to poor service, we cannot guarantee it at the house.
*Welcome to use all that is in the common areas as well as the kitchen, stereo, books, etc.
*Full kitchen privileges with small space in Fridge/Freezer, shelf space & space in bigger fridge for longer stays
*PLEASE keep drain protector in the drain in the shower and clean your own hair out after each use! We have old pipes (house is historic) and hair will cause drains to clog. Cleaning is essential as no one wants to clean up another's hair or step in grime!
*hold toilet handle down till it flushes as it is a bit tricky
*Only indoor shoes in bathroom please
*HAVE FUN AND SMILE!
