Or simply relax... We're located on a sunny acre in the redwood forest with private access to Hulbert Creek, a fairy ring of 200-ft redwoods complete with a hammock, a hot tub under the stars, and much more...
The cottage--studio-style with a king-sized bed complete with oodles of lounging pillows--has a private yard with its own organic vegetable garden. The kitchen is stocked for a cook with quality cooking equipment and is supplied with oils, sauces and spices. Tranquil, without phones or TV, we have plenty of good books & an extensive movie collection. A perfect retreat!
What guests have to say: “Sometimes it takes stepping away from the masses to rediscover what it is that we are truly meant to do with our lives…We loved the simplicity of this little green heaven and will be back for sure…So grateful for the beauty, the gardens, the nest of a cottage...We slept like logs and woke to lovely adventures right here in the hood… Great! Inspiring, peaceful, wonderful…”
A few notes:
Sonoma County requires us to charge and collect for them a 9% "Transient Occupancy Tax". That means that $9.00 has been added to our $100.00 per night room rate for the cottage, which we pay to the County. (The funds are used to underwrite events and promote tourism in Sonoma County.
Wi-fi: There is wireless internet on the property, though signal strength can vary.
Couples Retreat: In addition to our cottage, we have a guest room with a private entrance and a private bathroom--that when rented along with the cottage--provides nice accommodations for two couples. (This space rents for $75 per night off-season or $85 per night high-season and holidays.)
Additional Guests: The cottage is most appropriate for up to 2 people. A third person can be accommodated on a tri-fold mattress on the floor for an extra fee.
REQUIRED COUNTY TAX: Sonoma County requires us to charge and collect for them a 9% "Transient Occupancy Tax". Until AirBnB works out a way for hosts to collect their required municipal taxes, we will use AirBnB's "special offer" or "alteration request" functions to add the 9% tax to the booking fees. Sorry for the inconvenience and thanks for your understanding.
PETS: A small, well-behaved dog is allowed with advanced permission and with a signed pet agreement, plus an additional fee of $10 per night. (Sorry, no cats as too many people are allergic to them.)
No smoking indoors
Sonoma County regulations allow 2 guests only (except for a baby or young child). Additional guests or parties are not allowed.
Neighborhood quiet time is 10pm.
Had the best time at this beautiful little cottage in the woods! Was looking for a quiet retreat that wasn't too far from the coast or town and it was everything we had hoped for. Jim and Kathy were incredibly gracious and generous. We will definitely be back.
This place was perfect for a quiet weekend away. We had all the comforts and privacy we needed. So much so we never even crossed paths with the owners. The heater has been updated to an electric wood burning stove that adds a nice touch to being out in the redwoods. We brought road bikes to do some exploring and found it only took us 6 minutes to get to downtown. Not too bad at all. I would definitely come back.
My partner, dog, and I were so thrilled about staying at this cottage. It was a very short commute to downtown Guernville and a wonderfully easy and beautiful drive to hike in the redwoods and also to see the spot where the ocean met the river.
The house was clean and lovely and we loved the small fenced in front yard. If it had been a bit warmer we would have loved to take advantage of the cute table for breakfast of coffee. (We went in early January, so it was a little brisk and foggy in the mornings.) My dog also loved being able to run around and play in the yard.
Kathy and Jim were wonderful hosts and left us a towel for our dog's muddy feet, a nice welcome note, and even some of the most amazing cookies as a snack. I enjoyed our time in the cottage and would love to stay there again.
Jim and Kathy were wonderful hosts and their place is beautiful! They are very friendly but also very respectful of your privacy. The cottage felt so homey and welcoming and the hot tub is an amazing treat. I can warmly recommend their place and will try to be back myself soon!
The cottage was in a beautiful and serene spot, lots of redwood trees and greenery. It was cozy and sweet and close to hiking, wine tasting, and town (but still felt secluded and peaceful). We didn't meet Kathy, but Jim was very welcoming, and there was a great binder with suggestions of local activities. Although we enjoyed the hot tub, it was not right next to the cabin, but across the lawn of the main house (had a tall privacy screen, so still felt private once in the tub). Thanks for a great stay, Jim and Kathy!
Kathy and Jim Ocean were great hosts. The cottage was easy to find and welcoming upon our arrival. The place was clean and cozy and a short 20 minute walk to Guerneville. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook with and the DVD Player was easy to use. My friend and I were left alone and the cottage was quiet, but if we needed anything it was clear that all we had to do was ask. I would stay in the cottage again.
We had a wonderful time while staying in this Russian River treasure! Kathy and Jim were gracious hosts and their property is truly beautiful. We loved falling asleep at night to the sound of the creek behind us. Tucked in the Redwood forest and just a short drive to the coast, you're within a reasonable distance of so much natural beauty to explore!
