Or simply relax... We're located on a sunny acre in the redwood forest with private access to Hulbert Creek, a fairy ring of 200-ft redwoods complete with a hammock, a hot tub under the stars, and much more...
The cottage--studio-style with a king-sized bed complete with oodles of lounging pillows--has a private yard with its own organic vegetable garden. The kitchen is stocked for a cook with quality cooking equipment and is supplied with oils, sauces and spices. Tranquil, without phones or TV, we have plenty of good books & an extensive movie collection. A perfect retreat!
What guests have to say: “Sometimes it takes stepping away from the masses to rediscover what it is that we are truly meant to do with our lives…We loved the simplicity of this little green heaven and will be back for sure…So grateful for the beauty, the gardens, the nest of a cottage...We slept like logs and woke to lovely adventures right here in the hood… Great! Inspiring, peaceful, wonderful…”
A few notes:
Sonoma County requires us to charge and collect for them a 9% "Transient Occupancy Tax". That means that $9.00 has been added to our $100.00 per night room rate for the cottage, which we pay to the County. (The funds are used to underwrite events and promote tourism in Sonoma County.
Wi-fi: There is wireless internet on the property, though signal strength can vary.
Couples Retreat: In addition to our cottage, we have a guest room with a private entrance and a private bathroom--that when rented along with the cottage--provides nice accommodations for two couples. (This space rents for $75 per night off-season or $85 per night high-season and holidays.)
Additional Guests: The cottage is most appropriate for up to 2 people. A third person can be accommodated on a tri-fold mattress on the floor for an extra fee.
This was the perfect retreat for our spring break. Kathy and Jim were the perfect hosts. They were responsive, yet let us have our space and enjoy their property. The location was also perfect -- 15 minutes to the beach and 25 minutes to wine country. It doesn't get any better than that!!!
My boyfriend and I had the most lovely time at Jim and Kathy's cottage. We highly recommend it to anyone in SF looking for a quick wine country getaway. It's quiet, but there are a few awesome wineries within 10 minutes of the place. Be sure to check out Hartford and Martinelli vineyards, and the Garden Grill just down the street from the cottage. We will definitely be back.
WOW, WOW, WOW. If you want a great getaway in beautiful redwoods then this is the place to go. We only ran into Jim once but he was so friendly and helpful about things to do in the area. The property is like a little resort, it's gorgeous. They definitely have much more room than other people in the neighborhood. There's detail descriptions everywhere about everything (about the little cottage, full binder of stuff to do around the area, how to operate the hot tub, etc) it's amazing how much info and detail they put into this place. Cottage is the perfect size for two and the hammocks, especially the one in the fairy circle (aka redwood trees that make a circle), was perfect for napping. Plenty of movies to watch and the creek behind the main house was beautiful. Very close to town and Austin Creek State Recreation Area. Hot tub was awesome. Hands down the place to go if you're staying in Guerneville. Will be coming back in the future.
Our stay at the Riversea Cottage was exactly what we needed for a relaxing weekend getaway! The property was the perfect mix of nature and tranquility; we really enjoyed hearing the creek at night to lull us into sleep. Kathy showed us around after arriving and we enjoyed hearing her talk about the history of the property and the gorgeous redwoods, especially the fairy ring. We only wish we had more time to take advantage of the hammocks and sunbathe in the hot tub a bit more.
The cottage itself was cozy and well kept; it felt like our own little secret place to escape for awhile. Having the full kitchen space made it more enjoyable to cook and relax with dinner outside under the stars. We took advantage of the gorgeous spring weather with a hike at Armstrong and stroll through town, and will definitely be planning a trip back soon.
We had a great time at the cottage in Guerneville!
If you want a little get-a-way and off the beaten path, this is the place for you. The surroundings are beautiful and it is very quiet. A gem in the Redwoods. A great place to be close to the coast, hiking and vineyards. The hosts are friendly and gracious.
One of our best weekend getaways ever - the experience was only enhanced manifold because of this amazing cottage and its surroundings. Jim and Kathy were absolutely the most wonderful and cheerful hosts. The cottage was located right in the middle of Redwoods and is perfect for a couple or a family of 3 (we have a 3 year old boy) - The toddler loved the place - the carefully thought of games and books were the icing on the cake. And of course he loved running behind "Bella aka The Hamster" :-). Jim graciously educated us about the neighborhood and the flora and also gave us 4-5 plants to take home - an added bonus. Another great part is that this place is equidistant from Bodega Bay, Sebastopol and other surrounding places and is very close to Korbel and other wineries. Very highly recommended - so much so that our toddler this morning said - I want to go to Jim's house - Jim/Kathy - You surely know that we are coming back now :-)
The cottage itself was lovely, and the grounds were beautiful. The hammock in the redwood circle may be the most relaxing place on earth. The secluded hot tub next to the creek was amazing, and the movie collection is perfectly curated. We're already working on planning a return visit.
Gracious hosts and the location is beautiful. Took walks each morning before breakfast and enjoyed the majestic redwoods surrounding. Very adequate accomodations.
My boyfriend and I stayed here for a birthday getaway and absolutely loved it. The cottage is cozy and relaxing, and the surrounding nature provided a tranquil experience. We ran into Jim once and he was kind enough to show us around the property—from creekside access to a hammock in the middle of a fairy ring of redwoods. The location was also a quick drive to the market as well as home to beautiful trails and hikes. Thanks again for welcoming us!
