About this listing
Thanks for checking out the cottage at RiverSea West! Please note that our pricing includes the required 9% Sonoma County tax which makes our rates--which begin at $100/night--appear higher than they actually are.
Walk 15 minutes to the Russian River. Drive 20 minutes to stunning Sonoma County beaches or renowned Sonoma wineries. Enjoy the incredible hiking, biking, scenic drives & boutique shopping nearby.
Or simply relax... We're located on a sunny acre in the redwood forest with private access to Hulbert Creek, a fairy ring of 200-ft redwoods complete with a hammock, a hot tub under the stars, and much more...
The cottage--studio-style with a king-sized bed complete with oodles of lounging pillows--has a private yard with its own organic vegetable garden. The kitchen is stocked for a cook with quality cooking equipment and is supplied with oils, sauces and spices. Tranquil, without phones or TV, we have plenty of good books & an extensive movie collection. A perfect retreat!
What guests have to say: “Sometimes it takes stepping away from the masses to rediscover what it is that we are truly meant to do with our lives…We loved the simplicity of this little green heaven and will be back for sure…So grateful for the beauty, the gardens, the nest of a cottage...We slept like logs and woke to lovely adventures right here in the hood… Great! Inspiring, peaceful, wonderful…”
A few notes:
Sonoma County requires us to charge and collect for them a 9% "Transient Occupancy Tax". That means that $9.00 has been added to our $100.00 per night room rate for the cottage, which we pay to the County. (The funds are used to underwrite events and promote tourism in Sonoma County.
Wi-fi: There is wireless internet on the property, though signal strength can vary.
Couples Retreat: In addition to our cottage, we have a guest room with a private entrance and a private bathroom--that when rented along with the cottage--provides nice accommodations for two couples. (This space rents for $75 per night off-season or $85 per night high-season and holidays.)
Additional Guests: The cottage is most appropriate for up to 2 people. A third person can be accommodated on a tri-fold mattress on the floor for an extra fee.
REQUIRED COUNTY TAX: Sonoma County requires us to charge and collect for them a 9% "Transient Occupancy Tax". Until AirBnB works out a way for hosts to collect their required municipal taxes, we will use AirBnB's "special offer" or "alteration request" functions to add the 9% tax to the booking fees. Sorry for the inconvenience and thanks for your understanding.
PETS: A small, well-behaved dog is allowed with advanced permission and with a signed pet agreement, plus an additional fee of $10 per night. (Sorry, no cats as too many people are allergic to them.)
No smoking indoors
Sonoma County regulations allow 2 guests only (except for a baby or young child). Additional guests or parties are not allowed.
Neighborhood quiet time is 10pm.
I would recommend Kathy and Jim's cottage to anyone who is looking to get away and relax!
The cottage is cozy, clean and in an ideal setting. You will be able to enjoy the outdoors while still having the comforts of home. Please note: phone service is spotty (which I think is a good thing).
The cottage is very close to town (5 minute drive) - thus you will be able to obtain anything you need very quickly. As an added bonus the town of Guerneville is small but several great places to eat and places to pop into!
Kathy and Jim did a great job of making people feel welcome - their movie and magazine selection kept me entertained! And they had a wealth of recommendation regarding places to eat, drink and visit in the area.
Staying at Cottage in the Redwoods was a unique and wonderful experience. The property is beautiful and Kathy could not have been more genuine and warm. I would highly recommend Riversea to anyone looking to visit the Russian River Valley.
RiverSea was just what we needed! Comfortable and private. Jim is an interesting soul and was very knowledgable about the area (as per his own actual experiences). We really enjoyed exploring eclectic Guerneville and surrounding. A few of our favorite highlights:
--the trip to Jenner, especially Goat Rock beach, was wonderful.
--Armstrong Woods provided a excellent-lower key than the bigger parks-time in the redwoods
--Garden Grill for breakfast is a must-do, but getting out to eat, drink, and meet the locals was also worth the trip!
We loved it. Stayed here for our friends wedding. It was relaxing. My husband and I watched movies while our baby snuggled and slept the first night. I daydreamed about living in this neighborhood it was so beautiful. We saw deer out driving and the river was wonderful and there was an apple tree and other fruit. Their dog was also adorable. The only thing I regret is not having had more time.
This was our second time staying at Kathy & Jim's property and we absolutely love it! The cottage is cozy and the property was perfect for being in nature when we did not want to camp. We met Jim this time for a tour and some recommendations for things to do. Both he and Kathy are very welcoming and all around great hosts.
Guerneville and now Jim and Kathy's place hold a special place in our hearts as we got engaged during a hike at Armstrong Redwoods. Our plans for a river day were put on hold so we could relax on the property and take in all the emotions in secluded beauty. We definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a getaway in nature with some of the comforts of home.
Great location, close to town but a little off the beaten path so you get plenty of privacy and quiet. Grounds and cottage are well kept up and very welcoming. We didn't get the chance to meet Kathy and Jim unfortunately as we were constantly on the move and didn't spend much time in the cottage, but loved their little dog who greeted us when we arrived and checked in on us periodically. Next time we need to stay in Guerneville at a cute little, intimate place we will definitely see if this cottage is available!
Quiet, cozy, private cabin nestled amidst Redwoods. Loved our stay there! Kathy and Jim were delightful.
