Your stay one mile up the hill from the historic town of Mendocino begins in the garden suite of a private home on a quiet, tree-lined street. In the morning, you can view the apple orchard and the garden bursting with myriad flowers while enjoying the satisfying breakfast we provide during your stay—coffee, tea, cocoa, milk, freshly made granola, bread from a local bakery, yogurt, hard-boiled eggs, and organic fruit. You can sit on the deck at your private entrance to enjoy your breakfast, look out over the meadow and watch the many birds winging their way. And with the small refrigerator, microwave & toaster ovens, a French press and teapot in the suite, you can expand your eating options. In the bedroom, your comfort is ensured with a queen-size bed, an electric fireplace and 2 comfortable chairs in the seating area. A large closet offers you space to store your personal belongings.
This accommodation allows you privacy for a restful and restorative getaway. Yet the carpeted sunlight-filled studio also offers the perfect space to work. Several feet of desk-height counter space, generous enough for two, inspire writing, sewing, knitting, art work. In addition, there's an iron and ironing board, should you feel especially industrious. Wi-fi is available, as well as an iPod/mp3 player.
The sounds of birds and frogs, the occasional bunny or baby fox, hummingbirds, bees, and butterflies—these are the distractions of this Mendocino setting. Interaction with Guests
I am usually present during the guest's stay. Most of my guests are very independent and enjoy the privacy of this beautiful space. I've had many enjoyable conversations with the ones who have wanted to chat with me.
This is a peaceful residential neighborhood.

On my second visit to Hummingbird Haven, all was just as perfect as on the first- can't say enough nice things about the accommodations and the host, Margaret!
We spent another lovely, relaxing vacation at Hummingbird Haven. Looking forward to our next trip here!
We had the most fabulous time here at Hummingbird Haven. Margaret is the most humble and gracious host. Staying here was like staying at your favorite relatives house. It was warm, homey and beautiful! Her breakfast was amazing too! We couldn't get enough of those farm fresh eggs and granola...yum! Hummingbird Haven was quiet, very clean and had everything we needed for our weekend away. We ate our breakfast on the deck and watched all the hummingbirds and butterflies. It was peaceful and serene and perfect!
Margaret has created an idyllic cottage for a fabulous getaway experience. She went the extra mile to be sure we'd be comfortable upon arrival and during our time as guests. The cottage itself is wonderfully appointed with no detail overlooked. It's a warm, creative space amidst a beautiful garden, and provides for a most wonderful stay!
Margaret made us feel very welcome to her lovely home. The accommodation felt nice and private as we had our own entrance and it was in a peaceful setting overlooking the lovely garden. The whole place was delightful with a sun filled living area with healthy looking plants, plenty of lighting options and 2 comfortable office type swivel chairs to sit at the desk/worktop area overlooking the garden. There were also wicker chairs and a small table in our bedroom as well as chairs and table for use outside. Margaret couldn't have provided more for us, even checking before we arrived as to precisely what kind of milk we would like with our breakfast. All the breakfast food was given to us at the beginning of our stay and was a delicious mix of organic products including, yoghurt, cereal, granola, eggs, fruit, bread etc. The fridge was handy too for keeping our drinks cold. Margaret had thought of everything from the range of toiletries in the bathroom down to little flashlights to make sure we could get back to our room in the dark. All in all, a wonderful haven and well placed for Mendocino which was about a 3 minute drive away. We would highly recommend Hummingbird Haven
Margaret has thought of everything to make your stay in her cottage special. We loved opening the door to se a tray laden with fruit, just the sort of coffee we like and milk in the little fridge. This makes such a difference when you have driven a long way. This isn't just a spotlessly clean room but a beautiful self contained studio flat in a clearing in a wood with gorgeous outlook on to the garden and orchard. At this AirBandB we didn't really want to go out and be tourists but just stay and pretend we lived there. Margaret was very welcoming and we enjoyed reading her cookery book though didn't try anything ourselves! Mendocino is a beautiful little place which needed more than the two nights we had to do it justice.
Our host, Margaret Fox, has contacted us couple of times in advance, as well as on the day of arrival. She was unable to meet us upon arrival however her daughter showed us the way into the room.
The place was pretty much the same as in the advertised description.
The neighbourhood was quiet, pleasant, safe, close to town.
The room with amenities was private, had its own entrance, deck and patio, surrounded by abundance of flowers and fruit trees.
It was clean, meticulously organized.
Food was healthy and delicious.
I'm a longtime Mendocino resident who has lived on this property for almost 30 years. With its heirloom apple orchard, colorful flower garden, 2 ponds, and an old farmhouse on 3 acres, it's a comfortable and welcoming place to call home.
I speak some French, German and Spanish.
