Your stay one mile up the hill from the historic town of Mendocino begins in the garden suite of a private home on a quiet, tree-lined street. In the morning, you can view the apple orchard and the garden bursting with myriad flowers while enjoying the satisfying breakfast we provide during your stay—coffee, tea, cocoa, milk, freshly made granola, bread from a local bakery, yogurt, hard-boiled eggs, and organic fruit. You can sit on the deck at your private entrance to enjoy your breakfast, look out over the meadow and watch the many birds winging their way. And with the small refrigerator, microwave & toaster ovens, a French press and teapot in the suite, you can expand your eating options. In the bedroom, your comfort is ensured with a queen-size bed, an electric fireplace and 2 comfortable chairs in the seating area. A large closet offers you space to store your personal belongings.
This accommodation allows you privacy for a restful and restorative getaway. Yet the carpeted sunlight-filled studio also offers the perfect space to work. Several feet of desk-height counter space, generous enough for two, inspire writing, sewing, knitting, art work. In addition, there's an iron and ironing board, should you feel especially industrious. Wi-fi is available, as well as an iPod/mp3 player.
The sounds of birds and frogs, the occasional bunny or baby fox, hummingbirds, bees, and butterflies—these are the distractions of this Mendocino setting. In town, just a 20-minute walk away, you’ll find shops, restaurants, and various cultural offerings, depending on the season. Wend your way to the headlands, where you’ll look onto the dramatic glory of the Pacific Ocean. And at night, you’ll behold stars as you may have never seen them. An aside: if you’re looking for property on the beautiful Mendocino coast, use this suite as your home base.

Interaction with Guests
I am usually present during the guest's stay. Most of my guests are very independent and enjoy the privacy of this beautiful space. I've had many enjoyable conversations with those who have wanted to chat with me.
This is a peaceful residential neighborhood.

Margaret was a wonderful host plus her home was GORGEOUS. We loved staying there. There was a delicious breakfast of homemade granola (!!), fruit, and coffee provided every morning that we enjoyed on the porch with the hummingbirds and flowers. Great access into the town of Mendocino and every other place you could want to explore. So glad we found this gem!
This is the most beautiful, peaceful retreat I've had the pleasure of visiting! Margaret is an incredible hostess, very friendly, warm and welcoming, yet also gave us our space and privacy. There was no detail she didn't think of in stocking the suite, and she gave us a delicious breakfast. The suite itself is spacious, sunny, quiet and beautiful, in the most adorable town in a gorgeous part of the world. The best!! Thank you Margaret!
Our stay at the Hummingbird Haven was amazing. Margaret has thought of everything and you can not have a more comfortable stay anywhere else in Mendocino. I highly recommend the Hummingbird Haven if you need a relaxing weekend away.
Yet another delightful vacation spent at Margaret's oasis in Mendocino! We look forward (again) to our next stay. :)
Margaret's air bnb was a really lovely experience. My boyfriend and I had a wonderful weekend staying at her suite in Mendocino. She greeted us warmly when we arrived, provided us with a delicious breakfast each morning, and gave us some very helpful tips for exploring the surrounding area. The suite itself was clean, private and had everything we needed for a long weekend (even included details such as makeup remover). I would 100% stay at Hummingbird Haven again and hope to be back soon!
Our second time here and as always, it was fabulous. Weve now spent a total of 9 days at Hummingbird Haven. Margaret is a great host, thoughtful and considerate, has great Morning Food and is a delight to be around. The room is wonderful with plenty of privacy and the scenery is just beautiful. We will definitely be going back. It is an incredibly restful place. A garden and surrounding forests-- What more could you ask for. This is a great spot!!
This was our second visit to Hummingbird Haven and it was every bit as delightful as the first. The accommodations were just as described and Margaret was a wonderful host. The food she provided for breakfast was quite delicious and our entire experience couldn't have been better. Thumbs up for Hummingbird Haven.
I'm a longtime Mendocino resident who has lived on this property for almost 30 years. With its heirloom apple orchard, colorful flower garden, 2 ponds, and an old farmhouse on 3 acres, it's a comfortable and welcoming place to call home.
I speak some French, German and Spanish.
