An idyllic location just up the hill from the town of Mendocino. Far enough away from the bustle and traffic for quiet and privacy, close enough to get to any of the activities that interest you. A beautiful and secluded garden setting in which to rest and recharge.

The space

Your stay one mile up the hill from the historic town of Mendocino begins in the two-room garden suite of a private home on a quiet, tree-lined street. In the morning, you can view the expansive meadow with its antique apple orchard and country garden bursting with myriad flowers while enjoying the satisfying breakfast we provide during your stay—coffee, an assortment of many kinds of tea, cocoa, milk, freshly made granola, multi-grain bread from a local bakery, organic yogurt and fruit. Sit on the deck by your private entrance to enjoy your breakfast or sip a glass of wine, while looking out over the meadow to watch the many birds stopping at our bird feeders and winging their way to points near and far. And with the small refrigerator, microwave & toaster oven, a French press and teapot in the sunny, bright east room of the suite, you can expand your eating options. In the separate bedroom, your comfort is ensured with a queen-size bed, an electric fireplace and 2 comfortable chairs in the seating area. A spacious closet offers you room to store your personal belongings and also contains an additional blanket, a comforter, and two luggage racks.

This jewel of an accommodation allows you privacy for a restful and restorative getaway. Puzzles, games and books are available for diversion. And the carpeted sunlight-filled studio also offers the perfect space to work. Several feet of desk-height counter space, generous enough for two, inspire writing, sewing, knitting, art work. In addition, there's an iron and ironing board, should you feel especially industrious. Wi-fi is available.

The sounds of birds and frogs, the occasional bunny or fox, hummingbirds, bees, and butterflies—these are welcome distractions in this quiet Mendocino setting. In town, just a 5-minute drive away, you’ll find shops, restaurants, galleries, and various seasonal cultural offerings. From there, wend your way to the headlands, where you’ll look onto the dramatic glory of the Pacific Ocean. And at night, you’ll behold stars as you may have never seen them before.

Please note: The 11% Mendocino County Bed Tax is included in the room rate.

Margaret was a great host. My husband and my stay at her place were very reminiscent of our honeymoon in Ireland where we stayed in local B&Bs in small towns. She was very personable and personalized the breakfast selections to us. She also had great recommendations for things to do locally and even provided us with tickets to see the Mendocino Botanical Gardens, which were amazing. We highly recommend staying with her!

Hummingbird Haven was an exceptionally nice place to stay. Honestly the best BnB experience we have had since joining Airbnb. Margaret was such a wonderful host and did everything she could to cater to our wishes. Delicious local foods each morning for breakfast. Tranquil, natural and quiet surroundings. A real treasure of an experience.

What a lovely, restful and beautiful place--a Mendocino version of an English country garden. So close to town and yet away. It is indeed a haven for hummingbirds as well as humans. I hope to return often. Thank you, Margaret for being such a warm, welcoming host.

Margaret User ProfileMargaret is a superhost.

I'm a longtime Mendocino resident who has lived on this property for 30 years. With its heirloom apple orchard, colorful flower garden, 2 ponds, and an old farmhouse on 3 acres, it's a comfortable and welcoming place to call home.

I speak some French, German and Spanish.
