An idyllic location just up the hill from the town of Mendocino. Far enough away for quiet and privacy, close enough to get to any of the activities that interest you. A beautiful and secluded garden setting in which to rest and recharge.

The space

Your stay one mile up the hill from the historic town of Mendocino begins in the two-room garden suite of a private home on a quiet, tree-lined street. In the morning, you can view the expansive meadow with its antique apple orchard and country garden bursting with myriad flowers while enjoying the satisfying breakfast we provide during your stay—coffee, tea, cocoa, milk, freshly made granola, multi-grain bread from a local bakery, organic yogurt and fruit. Sit on the deck by your private entrance to enjoy your breakfast or sip a glass of wine, and look out over the meadow and watch the many birds stopping at our bird feeders and winging their way. And with the small refrigerator, microwave & toaster oven, a French press and teapot in the sunny, bright east room of the suite, you can expand your eating options. In the separate bedroom, your comfort is ensured with a queen-size bed, an electric fireplace and 2 comfortable chairs in the seating area. A spacious closet offers you room to store your personal belongings and also contains an additional blanket and comforter.

This jewel of an accommodation allows you privacy for a restful and restorative getaway. Yet the carpeted sunlight-filled studio also offers the perfect space to work. Several feet of desk-height counter space, generous enough for two, inspire writing, sewing, knitting, art work. In addition, there's an iron and ironing board, should you feel especially industrious. Wi-fi is available.

The sounds of birds and frogs, the occasional bunny or fox, hummingbirds, bees, and butterflies—these are welcome distractions in this quiet Mendocino setting. In town, just a 5-minute drive away, you’ll find shops, restaurants, galleries, and various seasonal cultural offerings. Wend your way to the headlands, where you’ll look onto the dramatic glory of the Pacific Ocean. And at night, you’ll behold stars as you may have never seen them before.

Please note: The 11% Mendocino County Bed Tax is included in the room rate.

I had been needed to take a solo trip to escape the stress of capitalism for a few days. I could not have picked a better getaway. Immediately upon my arrival, Margaret greeted me with warmth and care, showing me around the gorgeous flower-filled gardens that surround her place and extracting a guarantee from her that I would not attempt to do a single dish during my stay. "I'll handle all that, this is your vacation!" said she, and I may have shed a couple of tears. Although the unit adjoins her house, she was away at work throughout the day and I really felt like I had the run of the place. The kitchenette is great if you want to cook simple, delicious meals that don't require a stovetop; and the essentials she stocked the pantry with were phenomenal. You are a short drive from downtown, away from the hustle and bustle. The property is lined with Douglas fir forest and beautiful huckleberry bushes that you can enjoy. I hope to return either solo at some point or with my partner. Thank you!

The Hummingbird Haven was truly a relaxing and peaceful getaway. Margaret was a wonderful host and ensured our comfort on numerous levels - from tailored breakfast selections to providing flashlights for our evening stroll. We enjoyed exploring the coastal town but our favorite part of the weekend was relaxing in the Hummingbird Haven. Thank you Margaret!

Margaret is so gracious and we felt welcomed and at home in her lovely airbnb. She has created a beautiful private space where we enjoyed both the inside and the outside of the beautiful Mendocino hills. The bed is cozy, the gardens are beautiful, the hummingbirds are delightful, the environment is peaceful, and we felt rested and refreshed when we left. She personally selects delicious fruits, granolas, and breads for your breakfast and then whisks away the dirty dishes. She checks in just often enough to make sure you have everything you need and carefully attends to every detail. We couldn't have been more pleased or be more grateful.

We have stayed in many fine AirBnB locations but I do not remember one as satisfying as Hummingbird Heaven. Secluded in a beautiful rural setting with trees, flowers, ponds and hummingbirds , it is worlds away from the bustle of the city. But it is an easy walk to the town of Mendocino with its many attractions. Margaret has included every amenity and need a guest could want---even some you would not have imagined. As you explore the drawers you will find many thoughtful touches. Breakfast is simple but tailored to you needs based on an advance request. The fresh local organic fruit, delicious yogurt, amazing Fort Bragg Bakery bread and a lovely local apricot jam plus excellent coffee and teas started each day perfectly. There were current brochures, schedules of event and maps to answering nearly every question about the area. And then there was Margaret. While busy with catering and other food projects, she also had time to let us get to know each other. We will be back.

Margaret's secluded oasis was the perfect location for our honeymoon. We were able to relax in peace and quiet. Margaret provided so many thoughtful touches to the room so that it was truly a home away from home. The bedroom is very quiet, bed comfortable, and many extra pillows. Plenty of seating area/lighting to cozy up with a book. Bathroom seems newly renovated, large space to shower. Living area has plenty of windows and table space to work. There are enough gadgets to prepare a simple breakfast or lunch. Margaret stocks the air bnb with fresh coffee, jam, bread, granola, milk, yogurt, fruit etc. Book shelf has plenty of interesting options for reading. Make sure to check out the local tips from her hip pocket guide to Mendocino. She even provides binoculars and flashlights!! The best part is the garden - many hummingbirds delight in her garden of beautiful flowers and feeders. Great space to spend the morning with a cup of coffee or tea. The village of Mendocino is a 20 min walk or <5min drive away. This is one of the best air bnb we have stayed in. Do not hesitate to book!

Margaret's home is phenomenal. The backyard garden is absolutely stunning. It's the perfect place to read and relax, which is exactly what we did all weekend. It's a quick 20 min, if that, walk from the house to the downtown area. The breakfast Margaret provided was hearty and satisfying. I highly recommend Margaret's place.

Margaret User ProfileMargaret is a superhost.

I'm a longtime Mendocino resident who has lived on this property for 30 years. With its heirloom apple orchard, colorful flower garden, 2 ponds, and an old farmhouse on 3 acres, it's a comfortable and welcoming place to call home.

I speak some French, German and Spanish.
