The space

A peaceful slice of paradise at the foot of Mount Agung.

Kubu Carik: literally translated: A hut in the rice fields.

Nestled in an oasis of green, overlooking the rice fields, Kubu Carik (pronounced Kubu Charik) offers a secluded retreat from the crowds. Everything you will need to escape from it all.

Private bungalows with each its own balcony overlooking the endless rice fields at the foot of the majestic volcano Gunung Agung. Here at Kubu Carik the outdoors meets the indoors with all the open spaces like our dining area adn living area.

Even from our fresh water pool you can enjoy the endless view.

Probably one of Bali's best kept secrets in the East of Bali.

Guest access

Our pool is open to all guests - enjoy the cooling water and the amazing view of the rice fields at the same time.

Interaction with guests

Every guest is treated as a friend with whom we would like to share all we know of Bali.
Kadek will treat you to home cooked Balinese meals or if you prefer he can prepare some amazing hamburgers!

Every one is either included in our daily life here (including impromptu parties) or left to enjoy the peace and tranquility of the East of Bali.

I speak English, Indonesian, German, Dutch and a little bit of French.

The neighborhood

Besides extensive exploring of the rice fields right on our door step there are plenty of interesting places to visit in Karangasem. Just ask us and we will gladly help.

Trek the many stairs of the Lempuyang temple, visit the cooling pools of Tirtagangga, step back in time in the Royal Palace in Amlapura or see how we shop for everything you can imagine in Amlapura.

A beautiful white sand beach is only short drive from our place or you might want to go snorkeling in Amed?

Getting around

We can assist you with scooter rental or a driver with a car. For those more adventurous we can arrange a local "bemo" (mini bus).

Other things to note

Breakfast is included in the room rate and includes fresh home baked bread, home made jams and real butter! If the weather permits I might bake some fresh buttery croissants.

We offer cooking classes where you will learn about the Balinese cuisine and the ingredients. Depending on availability/season you will search our vast garden for vegetables and spices like banana flowers and tumeric etc. Kadek will show you how to mix the spices and prepare a delicious Balinese meal.

There are dogs and cats on the premises. All are house pets and part of the family here. Our dogs provide security - no one can enter our premises without being announced. Our cats are great for pest control. Please note that if you are allergic or fearful of animals to let us know in advance.

House Rules

We are trying to set an example in our area - please re-use your water bottles and try to reduce waste. If you need a shopping bag let us know!

Smoking is not permitted in the bedrooms. Each bungalow has it's own private balcony where you may smoke.

Respect others and your environment!

My brother and I came to Kubu Carik for some R&R. We arrived in paradise. It is tranquil and surrounded by beautiful views of the rice fields. Claudia kindly took us for a morning walk around the rice fields and to Tirta Gangga - a great way to see the surrounding areas. Food was plentiful and delicious. All the different varieties of jams for breakfast were made by Claudia. Unfortunately we didn't meet Kadek. He was in the hospital looking after sick family members. We spent most of our days sitting on the balcony reading books, taking in the beautiful view and soaking in that little piece of paradise. The fresh water pool provided some heat relief and some amazing views. We wished we could stay longer however due to family emergency we had to leave early. Claudia and Kadek will be opening a cooking school in the next few months - very excited. We will definitely be back.

We were here 3 nights and it is an extraordinary experience. Place is incredible, untouched by tourism, quiet. Rooms are cute, clean, with wiew to the rice field. Their cuisine is the best and Claudia's husband can teach you to cook original balinese food. I have to recommend this accomodation, it is the most amazing place where I've ever been.

Claudia gave me good directions before I arrived. For a Nature worshipper like me, Kubu Carik is heavenly. The airbnb description is very accurate - the area is truly untouched by tourism. I loved the frogs and catfish in the pond, the call of the tokay gecko in the thatch roof, birdsong at dawn, different home-made jams at breakfast, and various conversations from snakes to bread-making. Thanks Claudia for a super secluded stay.

Our stay in Claudia's charming house was one of our best experiences in Bali. Her husband didn't hesitate to come to show the way to our driver who was a little bit lost. The house and the view on the ricefields are completely amazing. No tourists around, you can selfishly enjoy this pure magic. Don't miss the breakfast, the many home-made jams are worth it ! Thanks again for greeting us !

Paradise! Beautiful surroundings, amazing place, good food, quiet,... Kadec walked with us through the rice paddies and talked about the farming life and plants. We spend beautiful days there.

Kubu Carik was like heaven. We had a wonderful stay. The place was beautifully located and we felt welcome from the minute we arrived. We did not meet Claudia, but her father and husband made us feel right at home. Kadek's cooking was exquisite! We wanted to stay longer but alas, we had to travel on. I totally recommend this place!

Grew up in South East Asia - mainly Indonesia, which is why I had to come back. I like to share what I know about Indonesia and why I love it there.
