Unwind and renew your spirit in our updated 5 bedroom (sleeps 9) historic house (circa 1830's) in the heart of the largest arboretum of its kind in the USA. Explore our exotic 206 acre property sheltering 4000 different North American and international tree species. Hike through old growth forest past historic outbuildings and watch the sun sparkle on our ponds. We are family and pet friendly, 25 minutes to Duke University, 17 minutes to UNC Chapel Hill.

The space
The home is located at the old King-Garrett homesite 7 miles northwest of Chapel Hill, North Carolina. In the 1890s, the frame house was built around the original 1830s log cabin.

The mission of the Garden is to create and preserve a large and diverse collection of temperate woody tree and shrub species known as the Keith Collection for study and enjoyment by researchers, horticultural students, professional horticulturists, and the general public.

The Garden began as the Keith Arboretum in the 1970s on a small scale. It has grown in size over the years until it now comprises 25 acres within 58 acres of conserved land. Currently, there are approximately 4,000 labeled species with an emphasis on diversity.

Lovely two-story deck in the front yard is perfect for scenic and serene outdoor activities. Imagine your morning yoga outdoors overlooking our koi pond! Along the ridge of the property is Pickards Mountain Forest, perfect for hiking with others and pets.

Guest access
Guests will have access to all parts of the property except the historic barn and old kitchen which can be viewed just from the outside.

Other things to note
Bring your bike - we have wonderful country roads that are great for cyclists! You can bike to the Maple View Ice Cream Shop just up the road or take a hike through nearby Duke Forest or NC Botanical Gardens!

Disconnect from you phone and reconnect with nature outside of cell reception area! There is wifi and available, but cell phone calls and text messages may be limited on the property.

It is also important to note that the home is almost 200 years old. While we are not aware of any active mold in the home, if you have sensitivities, we would not recommend. We want everyone to feel comfortable in the home and do not want to take any chances.
