The Space

This price is for one person in a single bedroom in our bright, comfortable house. You will share a bathroom with max two other people. The price includes breakfast (cereal/juice/tea/coffee/toast). We also have a double room for two people in another listing.

***Please email at least 24 hours before your intended arrival date. Thank you!***

Potential guests who have no references on this site are asked to give me some information about themselves like surname/university/town before I can accept a booking, for safety reasons. Thank you.

The house is a 10-minute drive (with no traffic) into Galway city. Or a 20-minute bus journey. A taxi costs €10. There are buses every 20 minutes (€1.90). It is a 35-minute walk to the centre.

The price is comparable to sharing a dorm in a youth hostel. It is perfect for people with a car as there is free parking, or for people who don't mind taking buses or walking.

Check-in (to your bedroom) is from 2pm (but you can check in to the house before that and leave your luggage/use bathroom etc, by prior arrangement). Check-out of bedroom 12 noon, and check-out of house is flexible.

Real coffee and real olive oil! :-)

We are a musical and artistic family who love hosting people and making your stay in Galway and Connemara as local an experience as possible. We can show you lots of cultural insider treats you would not find in guide books. We have one young child who is very visitor-friendly (very considerate and well house-trained :-)

We are located within a 15-minute walk of Salthill, with its lovely promenade and little beaches, fine restaurants, pubs and even some good music. We are a 10-minute bus ride to the "city" centre (town is more like it). Tell us what your interests are and we'll point you in the right direction. The house is on a quiet street tucked away from the main roads. No stunning scenery from the windows though!

We are on 4 bus lines which will bring you to the town centre, via the university. You can get to Galway city by train or by bus. There are buses/day trips from Galway to different parts of Conamara and the Islands. More details of best fares etc. by email.

What makes our place unique is that we love to host people, and we love to share our culture with people. If we are free we will bring you to see some cultural gems. Apart from Galway city, we have also lived in Conamara, and can give you invaluable hints if you plan to tour Conamara and/or the islands.

And we have no TV! But we do have an open fireplace and some stories to share around it!

If I am free while you're here, I can act as your personal tour guide, bringing you on a hiking trip to Conamara National Park or other destinations. All you need to pay are the expenses.

We have hosted (website hidden) guests from more than 8 countries and have positive feedback from all of them. We have rented rooms to long-term guests from 5 different countries, again all happy campers! This is our first time renting a room to short-term guests. We would prefer bookings of more than one night. Children are welcome at no extra cost.

We can also recommend accommodation in a unique, rustic environment in the heart of Conamara, in an area perfect for swimming, hiking, fishing, kayaking, cycling. Kayaks available.

  • Bríd was friendly, welcoming, charming, and extremely knowledgeable about the area, Ireland, and the world in general. The house was well-furnished, modern, in a good neighbourhood; a tiny bit out of the way but easily accessible by bus or cab.

Má's Gaeilgeoir thú, tá Gaeilge Dhún na nGall iontach álainn aici agus ag Oisín. Duine den chéad scoth í!

  • I booked 8 days with Brid and flight was cancelled so I was a day late arriving in Galway. I stayed an additional night. Private room and bathroom were clean and well kept. Breakfast was a combination of cereal, juice, bread and coffee or tea. WiFi worked well.
Brid was a great host and very knowledgable about Galway and surrounding area. Her home is 1/4 mile walk to nearest bus stop and about 1/2 mile to Galway Promenade (ocean). It is approximately 1.5 miles to center of town (Eyre Square). Buses run until midnight.
This was my first experience using Airbnb. It was a very positive experience from start to finish. Brid responded to emails quickly and was a great host, the Airbnb website worked flawlessly.

  • A real home with real people! I really enjoyed my days with Brid and her son Oisine.
Incidentally, Brid's photo does not do her justice. In real life her ears are longer (the better to hear you with), and she has beautiful blue eyes.
Do plan on staying here! And as a suggestion, bring a bottle of wine to share.

Thanks for the advice Paco! I'm working on it!

  • Highly recommended. Tucked away in a lovely residential area, Brid's home is a treat to come back to after a long day out in beautiful Galway. You will be welcomed warmly and provided with all the local recommendations you can handle, if you want them. Amenities are all in good condition, the room was very clean and it even included breakfast. Brid and her son are both wonderful people to be around and if you don't feel like going out or come back early due to the Irish weather, there'll still be plenty to do inside and lots of interesting talks to be had. The beautiful Salthill promenade is easily reachable with a leisurely stroll and the bus to the city centre stops close by. I truly had a very nice experience staying with Brid and can happily recommend booking a room in her house.

  • Brid (and Oisin too) is about the most chill and awesome host one can find! Her place is very warm and welcoming and nearly always filled with wonderful music. If you appreciate music, you will find that Brid is a treasure trove of cultural music as well as musical events all around Ireland. The neighborhood is beautiful, and even at night I didn't feel at all uneasy walking home. I've had a grand time staying there, and I can't wait until I find my way back again!

  • The location was fine. Close to the buslines, and it was easy to get in and out of Galway center either via bus or taxi. It's actually in a nice, quiet modern residential area, which was a refreshing change.

The hostess Brid is to put it simply, a fascinating slice of Ireland. From the stories she has about her experiences, along with her passion for local music and culture. Makes for great conversations and many many laughs! :)

The house is well setup. Despite a funny little situation I incurred right when I got there (I accidentally locked myself in the bathroom, and nobody was home yet), things immediately felt comfortable and "at home". Her and her cool son were very open and accommodating.

Brid is very passionate about opening up her home and letting people get a glimpse of life in Ireland from the ground level, warts and all. I honestly don't think my visit to Galway would have been the same had I stayed anywhere else. I look forward to getting back there and actually seeing some of the tourist sights this time! :)

    Big thumbs up!

  • I had a terrific time staying with Brid and her lovely son. Their home is situated in an ideal location for me- a short bus ride to the city centre and walking distance to the ocean/ Salthill area. The room was comfortable and simple yet well appointed and I most enjoyed spending time with my hosts in the evening by the fire, playing board games and listening to them practice musical instruments. I highly recommend Brid as a hostess and plan on staying with her again in the future!

  • I had a lovely time as a guest in Bríd's home. I could probably go on and rhapsodize about Irish hospitality and all that, but I prefer to think that Bríd was such a wonderful and gracious host not only because she's Irish but mainly because she's Bríd. It was easy to feel very much (and very naturally) welcomed and at-home despite my having to spend more time in the house than any of us had originally bargained for due to some particularly bad winter storms that coincided with my stay.

The house is conveniently located, with the #405 bus making frequent stops right down the road to take you to and from the heart of the city. It is also within walking distance of the grocery store and a short hop the beach. I really didn't feel like I missed anything by not staying downtown.

The deal is that you're staying as a guest in someone's house, so you shouldn't expect the amenities of a 5-star hotel. What you CAN expect, however, is a cozy room and the typical comforts (email hidden)d-in space, and within it, to find yourself at home and a part of the life of the home.

  • Staying with Bríd and her son was fantastic! As soon as I arrived, I felt welcomed and comfortable. Her son is so wonderful and has a lot to talk about. I felt very much a part of the family, even helping her son decorate a small christmas tree. Bríd understood the ever-changing itinerary of a young traveler and was flexible and understanding throughout my time there. I would 100% recommend her as a host who will try and make your stay as personalized and comfortable as possible!
