Interaction with Guests
We are two working, full-time grad students with a little daughter, so our life is pretty flexible and fast-paced. We are glad to help point out tourist attractions and give directions but other than that we'll leave you to yourself to explore the cities. We will not be present during your stay, but we will try our best to greet you when you arrive.
There is plenty to do in the Minneapolis metro area, and our place is just .75 miles from downtown, including the Viking's Stadium, Gold Medal Park, and the Guthrie Theatre. We are just over a mile from the Minneapolis Convention Center and favorites such as Global Market and the Midtown Greenway. Lake Calhoun, Lake of the Isles, Lake Harriet, and Minnehaha Falls are just five miles away to the southwest and southeast of us. If you are coming to the cities for a gastronomic adventure, Hell's Kitchen, Matt's Bar (for the Juicy Lucy burger) or Fogo de Chao for a fancy dinner are just a short drive away.
A note about our urban, ethnic neighborhood: we do live in the city center which means that our neighborhood is busy and very varied: our home is near bus lines, public spaces like parks, coffee shops, non-profit offices, other large old Victorian homes, government buildings, apartment complexes, health clinics, and the many different types of people traveling through the neighborhood on a daily basis. Urban city life is densely populated, so you will want to exercise city-smarts and common sense when traveling out late at night from our place. If that makes you uncomfortable, you might prefer to stay in one of the quieter neighborhoods outside the city center like Nokomis or Eden Prairie, White Bear, St. Louis Park, Plymouth, or Longfellow.
We, however, love the energy of the city of Minneapolis. There is something special about looking out over the city's skyline from our front porch. One of our favorite pluses of living in Minneapolis's city center in the Ventura Village neighborhood is the fact that we enjoy a huge diversity of neighbors from all parts of the world and with it the customs, the dress, the food, and vivacity that they all bring to Minneapolis.
Public transit, whether bus or metro, is nearby along with NiceRide stations. We are just 0.5 miles from the Franklin Street Metro Station on the blue line metro. The blue line metro is the cheapest, straightest way to and from the airport and downtown ($2.25 during rush hour). We provide guests with the option to purchase $5.00 bus/metro passes at our house which can be easily reloaded online, saving you the hassle of having to carry exact change for the bus fares.
If you are arriving from the airport late at night or if you are leaving early in the morning, we recommend taking a taxi or UberX which does pick up from the airport with an additional $6.00 surcharge.
Other Things to Note
This place is a perfect stay for those here for a conference, job interview, or on a business or sight-seeing trip to the cities.
Our apartment is smoke-free and pet-free. Please no unannounced, extra guests who are not listed on the reservation.
We do live in a multi-unit house so please be conscientious of our neighbors in the other two units. Quiet hours are from 9 p.m.–9 a.m. particularly on the porch. Thank you.
Zach and Betsy are a fun-loving, geeky couple trying to fit all of life into twenty-four hours every day. This Bay-area Californian and small-town Wisconsinite are relatively new to the Twin Cities but are loving the exploration that a new city (or two cities) brings. They are still learning to bike when the weather is sub-freezing, but they love these gorgeous summer months. They love travel and ethnic cultures and have loved making a home in one of the most ethnically-diverse neighborhoods in the U.S. They spend what spare time they can find working to restore ever more of their house to its former glory.
