The Space

A what? A pied-à-terre. It's French for "foot on the ground".

Defined as a small living unit usually located in a large city some distance away from an individual's primary residence. It may be an apartment or condominium. The term pied-à-terre implies usage as a temporary second residence, either for part of the year or part of the work week, by a person of some means. And we love to say it in our best, really awful French accents and pronunciation.

So, back to business ... you’re arriving to Portland by plane? PDX is only 20 minutes away. Pre-arrange with us for a ride into town or simply jump on the MAX train. You’ll immediately be immersed with Portland’s colorful characters and in about 50 minutes you’ll arrive at your stop which is two blocks away; including a nice stroll through our own Patton Park.

There are so many transportation options in Portland. MAX is our light-rail transit system. As mentioned we have a stop two blocks from your apartment. Then there is a European-style streetcar, a large bus system, taxis and a couple of fun car options (other than traditional rental agencies). Zipcar and Car2Go are rentals that can be picked up on the street conveniently. You'll see them all over Portland. A super easy way to grab a ride at the last minute. But plan ahead to establish your account and you'll be all set.

Your apartment is an eclectic mix of years of collecting. Vintage meets mid-century meets local PDX artists meets clean and comfortable and well-appointed.

There is one-bedroom with a comfy Queen bed and a Queen sofa-bed available for kids or extra guests.

The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you’ll need for preparing and enjoying meals. Or gather a picnic and enjoy it in one of four parks within a 1 to 15 minutes walk.

Anything you don’t have that you may need can be gathered easily from our local New Seasons (gourmet grocery) or our big/full-service grocery/home store; either within a few minutes walk or a MAX ride away.

For food and restaurants and bars and coffee are not in short supply ... where to start? N. Killingsworth is quickly becoming a food-lovers row; the majority are all within 4 blocks.

After eating all of the amazing food Portland has to offer you’ll want to get out and burn some calories. Bring your bike (room for storage in the apartment) or rent one from a number of local bike shops. Grab a helmet and hit the downtown streets, ride the trails or toss your bike on MAX and tour the City.

Portland offers lots to do other than dodging the occasional rain drop. There are arts, crafts, coast, mountains, trails, gardens, historical homes and architecture, night clubs, music, bookstores, concerts, characters, shopping, dreaming ... VooDoo Donuts!

In our neighborhood there is also Adidas Headquarters, Expo Center, Portland Raceway, Swan Island and (website hidden) of Portland is less than a 10 minute drive and Portland Community College is within walking/biking distance. Portland State University is 10 minutes downtown.

We think our little slice of Portland has just about everything. We have a Little Free Library just steps away that you can feel free to borrow from or lend to and on occasion we'll even share our little dog, pSally Draper.

Speaking of dogs … we understand how hard it is to leave your pet at home. So, we are pet friendly and are happy to accommodate "most' dogs. We ask a few things; your pet does not stay alone/unattended, your pet stays off the furniture, you pick up after your pet and we require a $25 pet fee per day.

Anything else you need, just ask and we can probably help make it happen.

Excitedly planning your next trip? We’d love for you to stay with us.

Thanks, Pamela & Niko & pSally Draper

ps. We're sure there are a million things we're forgetting. Like hiking and yoga and hot yoga and spas and wellness and coffee and food and distilleries and breweries and no sales tax which makes for great shopping and The Oregon Zoo and The Japanese Gardens and Forest Park and Mt. Tabor and The Chinese Gardens and Portland Art Museum and OMSI and ... did we mention coffee?

Oh...and plenty of parking.

pps. Traveling with kids? We have a Graco pop-up travel crib on-site. Let us know what needs you have and we'll try to accommodate.

Guest Access

Pied-à-Terre; PDX is a separate basement apartment with a full bath, kitchen and bedroom.

You're welcome to sit on our porch and watch the world go by. There is also a bench just outside where you can enjoy a book from our Little Free Library.

Washer/Dryer in suite.

Parking; plenty of free on-street parking.

Interaction with Guests

We are available often, in person, as our home is upstairs. And anytime via phone or text.

We always enjoy meeting those guests that wish to socialize … if so, let us know. Otherwise feel free to enjoy this private space.

The Neighborhood

We love Overlook. The most connected spot in NoPo, our neighborhood seems quiet and … well like a neighborhood … but within a few blocks are restaurants, shopping, movies, parks, transportation … anything and everything you need.

Getting around

We are two blocks from MAX, Portland's light rail system.

Other Things to Note

Pied-à-Terre; PDX has the ability to sleep extra guests on the pull-out sofa or there is another space adjacent to which we can easily add an air mattress. Just let us know should your group grow in size.

We strive to keep our suites a "shoe free" environment … as a way of keeping the best of Portland in and the dirty bits out. Please help us by removing your shoes when indoors.

  • Excellent location, very close to freeways, downtown and other attractions. Clean and comfortable place. Very unique decorations. We were 4 adults and a baby we stayed for two nights. The place did not seem too tight. The master bed was very comfortable, and the sofabed was not bad either. It was, obviously, not as good as the master. Main thing is we did not get any back aches after sleeping on it :).

  • We stayed 10 nights June and July in Pamela's Pied-a-Terre in Portland. Overall, it was a very positive experience and we can heartily recommend this (email hidden) to stay. It was immaculately clean, convenient to transportation (we did have a rental car though, so we did not use the available mass transit, for which Portland is justly renowned) and shopping. It is a basement apartment, so there are some steps to negotiate. It has a bare concrete floor and as a shoeless apartment, some slippers would be a good idea, especially in the winter. It has a fully equipped kitchen and a large bathroom with a truly great shower head (not a trifling consideration). We had one very hot day during our stay (a rarity in Portland), the apartment is not air conditioned but a large fan did the (website hidden) of all, it has a washer and (email hidden)-saver during an extended trip. Television reception left a lot to be desired, but the WiFi was very good.

We arrived with a last minute addition to our party, a teenage granddaughter, and working out the payment was a little complex, but Pamela was gracious throughout. We will definitely consider Pied-a-Terre for our next Portland trip.

  • We had a wonderful stay at the Pied-a-PDX. My wife and I were there as part of my book tour, and so we didn't have much time to enjoy being in the lovely space. But it was spotless, the communication was always prompt and helpful, and there was even a welcome card and gift for us. Highly recommended.

    Hi there,
First you're welcome. It's always nice to have a little something waiting for you when you arrive.

Regarding shoes … it never occurred to me to mention it prior. I added a note to our listings … and thank you for the feedback. :)

  • This was the first time we used AirBnb and it couldn't have been a better experience. Pamela was incredibly generous and assisted us in finding the best places in town for brunch and dinner. The room has reliable wifi allowing us to stream Netflix, a full kitchen with coffee, tea, and oatmeal at the ready. There was even a complimentary bottle of wine in the fridge! Highly recommended, and we'd definitely stay here again!

  • Pamela was a very responsive host, warm and helpful - readily available without being intrusive. The space was very clean and inviting and quite spacious, an easy place to spend time. Hooray for the washer and dryer! A bonus for my lengthy stay.

North Portland is a great neighborhood, very quiet, low rise, safe. Peninsula Park nearby is a treasure - the original rose garden that gave Portland its nickname, "Rose City."

  • Pamela (email hidden)- we really enjoyed our stay and she made our visit very comfortable.

The apartment was spotless, with everything you need, and the location was superb (in a delightful neighbourhood), with just a short 15min stroll to the Mississippi neighbourhood, which we visited a few times- great selection of bars, restaurants and brunch venues...Pamela pointed us in the right direction :)

The apartment was also just 2 blocks from the max train, which we used every day (just $5 for a day pass so we never felt the need to taxi once).

I would definitely recommend staying here, we felt very at home and relaxed and looked forward to returning each day to our home away from home.

    Thank you Pamela!

  • To say Pamela went above and beyond expectations is an understatement. We made an error with our travel plans and arrived a day early in Portland. Pamela made a huge effort to accommodate us which we appreciated so much. The apartment itself was spacious, comfortable and pristine. The Overlook area is quiet and close to everything we needed. My best airbnb experience to date. Thanks Pamela!

  • The owner responded quickly which was very nice and made planning our trip a lot easier. The place was very comfortable and clean. Hopefully it will be available when we return to Portland.

  • Pied-à-Terre; PDX is the perfect place to stay when you're visiting Portland! My husband and I stayed at this spacious and well-appointed apartment for three days while on vacation and we enjoyed our stay immensely. Pamela is a wonderful and thoughtful host and she made sure that we felt welcomed from the moment we arrived. The apartment was clean and beautifully decorated, consisting of a large living room area, a full-size kitchen and dining area, a roomy bedroom with a very comfortable queen-size bed, a large bathroom, and a full-size washer and dryer. The apartment is in a charming neighborhood and is very conveniently located in Portland. Our experience at Pied-à-Terre; PDX could not have been better and we would definitely stay here again when visiting Portland :)

  • The Pied-a-Terre: PDX (email hidden) to rest, relax, and plan excursions into downtown Portland. Nestled in an older, but revitalized area of Portland, the suite is close to everything you would wish, including transit (minutes away!), cool restaurants (The Pause for Easter dinner was wonderful), and interesting walks (I love Portland's commitment to the front yard garden). Not only is the suite very private and clean and exactly as advertised, it was also so easy to get into, and Pamela and Nico are very sweet and generous hosts, even kindly inviting us to join them for a dinner they hosted on one of the nights of our stay. Do consider staying in this lovely suite...you will feel relaxed, at home, and cared for by these wonderful hosts.

About
Hi there. I'm Pamela. We've been airbnbing for a while now and still excited each time someone chooses to book one of our spots. My guy Niko and I have a great house that we love in an ever-changing and growing neighborhood. We've built an apartment in our basement that we hope you'll love as much as we do. We also own the house across the street which houses our other three airbnb suites … PfirstHouse; PDX Parlor Room; PDX Philoxenia; PDX. We've both been in Portland for over 15 years. I'm from San Francisco and Niko is originally from Greece by way of Germany. He speaks many languages, I barely get by on the one. We love to eat, to cook, to entertain and sometimes to just loaf around. We're excited about the prospect of meeting new people and hearing about your adventures in Portland if you want to share. Come, relax, walk, eat, drink and breath in a little of the beauty and charm that is Portland.
