The Space

Come rent the entire 3rd floor in the Lucas House. Built in 1909 by the first city counselor of Bend and proprietor of the famous Pilot Butte Inn. The bedroom is fully furnished with a double bed, side tables and lamps, built in dressers and wall art. There is a sitting room, furnished with a tv, a table w/ 6 chairs and a futon. This floor also has its own bathroom, not shared by the rest of the house.

On the main floor there is a fully furnished kitchen with 2 fridges, so feel free to bring in your own food or walk three blocks to wonderful downtown restaurants and brewpubs. The living room sports a big screen TV, along with wireless internet, cozy in to watch Netflix or head to McMenamins to watch a movie. We also have a gas BBQ for outdoor cooking.

The house has character in keeping with it's age and history with a relaxing cottage-like feel on the inside. You will find original owner murals and interesting brick features and details through out this historic home.

  • My wife and I stayed in the 3rd floor suite of the Lucas house over the weekend. It's from the early 1900's, so depending on your tastes you might find it charming or you might just think it's a bit quirky. Either way, it's very spacious and, most importantly, you are only a little over a block away from downtown Bend. We didn't drive the entire weekend, and we hit nearly every store. Being able to take a quick walk, drop stuff off, and then head back out is so great.

There will probably be other people staying in the house in the other rooms when you're there, which could be a great way to meet other people. We tend to be a bit shy and didn't socialize much, which was also just fine. We had our space and privacy, and couldn't even hear anyone from where we were staying.

Lee is a great host and if you need anything, she'll take care of it right away. She's usually in the house, and when she wasn't, she answered her phone every time we called.

  • I stayed just one night in the private upstairs suite. Beautiful old house with a lot of charm! The stairs to the upper floors are indeed steep and narrow so be careful. The house is in a great location. Be sure to check out the host's gorgeous gallery on the ground floor. I would stay here again.

  • A very close, convenient location to the main shopping and eating area of Bend - we loved it. The Lucas House is historic, so be warned about the 3rd floor - extremely narrow stairway to the top, but once you're up there, you'll enjoy the quiet atmosphere. It was cozy and comfortable.

  • What a great house! The suite was spacious and all the common areas were very clean. There was also a nice feel to the place-- all the other guests were friendly, and we generally chatted with each other in the kitchen when we were making meals. Would definitely stay there again if I'm back in Bend!

  • The Lucas House is a fabulous location close to downtown Bend. You can easily walk and bike to restaurants, bars and shopping. The house has a lot of character and basic amenities. It was nice to be able to park there and have a place to store our bikes. It has a bit of a hostel feel with there being so many rooms. The third floor apartment is basic and nice but it doesn't really have a full kitchen - just a microwave - so don't plan to do any cooking there. The house does have a shared kitchen with everything you need.

  • We had a great time staying at the Lucas Guesthouse. The top-floor suite was perfect for our group of four and it was nice to have our own bathroom. We enjoyed being able to cook meals in the kitchen, and one night we grilled dinner and sat outside in the yard. We basically had the kitchen and the house to ourselves for most of our stay, except for one night when a friendly group was also staying at the house and invited us out to bars with them. The walking proximity to downtown is awesome. The only negative thing is that the house is close to 97, so you can hear the highway from the bedroom window. Our friends who live in Oregon said they plan to stay at Lucas House instead of the local motel on future trips to Bend.

  • Lee helped make our Bend trip even better! The Lucas House is SO close to downtown and has character. The suite was a perfect space for us and very comfortable. Thanks again to Lee for her attentiveness and hospitality. Would totally stay w/her -so to speak- again!

  • This is a fabulous place to stay in Bend. Just 2 blocks from downtown, super clean and could be a great way to meet fellow travelers (although when I was there I was the only person in the house)

  • I came to visit Bend for a solo vacation and found this great place on AirBNB. I stayed in the 3rd level suite and it had everything I needed including bathroom, bed, plenty of space, privacy, and it was overall a cute place! I love the location - it's close by everything downtown. Make sure to check out this place next time you're in town!

Hello, My name is Lee. I am 44 years old, a business owner and a home owner and have lived in Bend for most of my life. I have a daughter, who has just moved into her own apartment here in Bend and a son, who is living in Tacoma and attending college. I have owned this house for the past 6 years and love the location in the middle of Bend. I have been a log home designer for the past 20 years, yet have embraced the change in economy and started up a new lapidary business in 2012. My studio is at my house and is open for tours. If you have a special rock or mineral that you've always wanted turned into a pendant or placed on a pedestal/light base, lets talk! I am also open to teaching workshops, allowing you to cut your own piece. My interests are many. From creating community and volunteer work. I enjoy the connections made with others. I have been to Burning Man the past three years and feel it is having a larger impact on me, as I open up more to my own potential. I love my house and gardening and making improvements over time. Alot of satisfaction in making my home comfortable and I enjoying sharing it with others. Looking forward to meeting you all. Cheers! Lee Marie Steckler
