  • Silvio and Rosanna are amazing hosts. We had the right amount of privacy while still getting to talk and enjoy meals with them. Silvio offers paid tours around Chiloé which I'm sure would be wonderful, but since we had a car we opted to explore on our own. Also, the dinners are absolutely fantastic. The rooms are comfortable, clean, and lovely. And the property is so peaceful and beautiful. There are a few churches on the island, and it's also easy to get back to the main island to visit the national park. We had a wonderful time and are grateful to Silvio and Rosanna for their generosity and hospitality. We bought some of their homemade limoncello and jam for the road so we can continue to relive the experience. Thank you, gracias and grazie!

  • El Castaño may be my favorite place in Chile. not only is it a quiet, beautiful place, but Rosanna Y Silvio did something special, kind or thoughtful every day to make my stay comfortable and memorable. Isla Lemuy is country: an easy bus and ferry ride from bustling Castro.

  • Silvio & Rosanna were amazing hosts! One of the best we ever had on Airbnb! They made us feel like friends rather than customers I really couldn't recommend them enough. They cooked us a lovely dinner for a very reasonable price and we had a lovely long conversation afterwards, while we were tasting some delicious homemade liquours made by Silvio, sharing stories and laughs. Breakfast was also excellent with Rosanna's homemade jams. Beatiful and quiet location in Lemuy island, perfect place to relax and spend some days. The bedrooms are comfortable with private bathroom. We hope we will come back because we felt at home!

  • We really had a great stay at Rosanna and Silvios place. Rosanna and Silvio are really great hosts - they are truly welcoming, really nice and friendly people and very helpful. During our stay we rather felt like friends of their family than guests. We did a lot of things - traveling around the islands, making pasta and we learned a lot about Chiloè. The farm is incredible - we definitely recommend staying there and hoping to come back!

Rosanna e Silvio, mille grazie per tutto!! È stato veramente un piacere di conoscervi. Un grande abbraccio - Anja e Micha

  • Silvio and Rosanna welcomed me on their wonderful property. 8 hectares of farm land with interesting flora. silvio is quite the green thumb. Very quiet place, wonderful food, amazing hosts, perfect place to chill for three days around the island of Lemuy. Going back to Chiloe is a bit of a trek but the scenery is exceptional along the channel islands. Visitng Chiloe national park is very interesting but best to stay closer. On the island of Lemuy, I would love to spend more time there some day. The farmers are really into organic and eco farming. On the property, I really enjoyed the hamac under the trees, the company of the two horses as well as the house cat. Thank you Silvio and Rosanna for your warmth and my renewed appreciation for graceful genuine hospitality.

  • WOULD TOTALLY EXTEND MY STAY.

Silvio and Rosana are wonderful hosts who made me feel right at home and included me in all their little gatherings with friends.

Silvio also brought me around the woods and taught me a lot about plants. allowed me to help out with the horses too!

the farm itself and the grounds are like 'the great outdoors for beginners'. fantastic for a city girl like me! i loved that they're book lovers too, we spent a full evening discussing our favourite authors.

the farm is a little difficult to get to, so if you can, spend a little more and book a transfer from Silvio. along the way to/from Castro he also gave me a running commentary on what to look out for in chiloe/isla lemuy.

fantastic stay, i can't wait to go back in the future! miss them already!

  • We (2 couples in our 50s from Canada) chose El Castano as our base for the 5 days we spent in Chiloe. We couldn't have chosen any better place to experience the "true" Chiloe, or better hosts to spend those days with. Silvio's knowledge of the places and people of the area along with Rosanna's amazing cooking (with Silvio's open fire barbequing techniques) made our stay there incredible. They go out of their way to use local products and are innovative in using them to produce artesanal goodies such as Rosanna's "marmeladas". The house is comfortable, the bedrooms with private bathrooms perfect, the small farm is attractive and the peace and quiet very welcome. We shared wine, food, many laughs, shared stories and learned an incredible amount about Chiloe. Silivio was able to book a day on a boat for us to tour the islands, direct us to the best restaurants to go to when we were away from El Castano, places to visit, walks to take, etc. Anyone planning to use El Castano as their base should remember that it is on Isla Lemuy and accessed from the main island via the ferry, which although truly efficient, does add a bit of travel time. We truly felt a part of their lives and left as good friends.

    Response from Silvio:

Guys ... we really deeply moved ... thank you ... many thanks

  • Was told to stay in Castro by some friends, and stumbled on Sylvio{s ad for a stay outside. Beautiful home, friendly hosts, delicious food. Couldn´t have asked for a better experience. Took the tour of the West coast with Sylvio and was introduced to some of the special places off the ´backpacker´path. Well worth it.

  • We could not have loved our wonderful stay at El Castaño any more than we did. In fact, it was the highlight of our trip to Chile! I only wish we could have stayed longer.

Silvio and Rosana have created a paradise off the beaten path on the beautiful island of Lemuy and we feel so fortunate to have been able to join them there. From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed like dear friends and invited to make ourselves right at home, which we absolutely did!

El Castaño is a truly special place. Green rolling hills dotted with forests and flowers, the enormous namesake chestnut tree and a quiet beach Silvio showed us how to find where we watched dolphins and waterbirds as the sun went down are just some of the natural wonders to be discovered. The meals we shared with Silvio and Rosana were incredible (and very reasonable in cost) — breakfasts with strongly brewed coffee and fresh baked bread with homemade marmalades, lunch of fresh pasta made on a family heirloom that we “helped” to make, dinner of whole crabs and flaky baked fish seasoned with delicate herbs followed by homemade liquores including fantastic limoncello and a flavorful digestif, ruta. I also enjoyed the "papas nativas" or native potatoes Silvio so proudly grows. There are even blue ones!

One of my highlights was spending time with their sweet barn cat's month-old kittens and another was grooming and riding their gentle and affectionate horses. I also very much enjoyed the island tour Silvio took us on which included a visit to a local woodworker's studio. He was even able to get a woman from the village of Detif to let us inside the beautiful 200+ year old church.

I highly recommend anyone considering a stay here to book today! We are fortunate enough to have traveled to many amazing destinations throughout the world and both of us agree that El Castaño will forever hold a special place in our heart. Even though we have so much more of the world still to see, I truly hope that we will find ourselves back at this incredible place again someday.

  • What an amazing stay! Silvio and his wife Rosanna could not be better hosts-- welcoming, warm, friendly, full of local knowledge and tips, great cooks, and just a lot of fun to be around. We came as a group of four- my parents, my boyfriend and I. We were welcomed by our hosts, enjoyed the clean and comfortable rooms and the beautiful home that they built themselves. There is no better place to eat on the island, than in their home- and they make homemade jams, yogurt, lemon cello, and yummy foods. We stayed 3 nights, but wished that we could have stayed longer, as when we left, we felt that we had all made 2 wonderful friends. I would highly recommend El Castaño Farm to anyone looking for a relaxed, welcoming, retreat in Chiloe.
