I did not know about "super host" status on AirBnb, but whatever it is, Sylvio deserves it. Him and his wife receive you as friends in their house, very smooth and warm. He will involve you in his local life if you're curious, tending to the apple trees, etc. I was coming for a day, decided to extend it just to enjoy a bit longer the nice atmosphere and wonderful surroundings.
Silvio arranged to meet us at the ferry and even though our bus was late waited for us . He and Rosanna made us feel so welcome in their very comfortable home. Rosanna is a very good cook and her meals are wonderful.
We could have used Silvio for all manner of extra tours at a reasonable cost but we wanted to walk the island so Silvio drew us very good maps and gave us the bus timetable and we enjoyed three great days.
When it was time to leave it was like saying goodbye to family.
This is a very good way to experience life in country Chile and we highly recommend this beautiful experience to all.
Silvio and Roseanna were beyond wonderful! We are traveling with two very young children, which can often be a challenge. They welcomed all of us into their home with grace. Roseanna's meals were so yummy and she was very flexible with mealtimes, when one night we wanted to eat early with the kids and the next night we thought it better to wait until the kids went to bed and then eat late. Silvio was really good about modifying the tours to take into account the kids and also helped us to keep the meltdowns at bay after a long day of sightseeing.
Some highlights include walking to town with Roseanna to buy locally made, naturally dyed yarn, seeing dolphins swim right under our boat just minutes after eating the best mussels I've ever had, and playing in the driveway with toy fishing poles made out of sticks and twine.
Thank you Silvio and Roseanna. We will never forget the time we spent at El Castano.
Los días que pasamos en El Castaño fueron excelentes. Un lindo entono y excelentes anfitriones. Además, la ubicación permite conocer mejor Chiloé .
Rosanna and Silvio are the perfect hosts! Nothing is too much trouble for either of them.
Silvio was my private guide for 2 days, showing me the beauty of Chiloe, and told me so much about the culture, history, flora and fauna, and food of the island.
Silvio picked me up from Castro when I arrived quite late after a long journey, and Rosanna had prepared supper for me.....fantastic!
Ask Silvio to barbecue a whole salmon for you one evening....it was probably the best salmon I've ever had!
The wine, limoncello, conversation and laughter was free-flowing for my whole stay!
Thank you Rosanna and Mario for a great time! X
We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to El Castano. A lovely break from the hustle and bustle. Silvio and Rosanna were consummate hosts and attentive to our every need. Silvio has an extensive knowledge of Lemuy Island - its people, history, myths and legends. Rosanna is an excellent cook. It really feels like a home away from home (one should definitely stay 3 to 4 days at least to fully appreciate the experience). Thank you for the privilege!
el Castano was a beautiful hideaway in the countryside of Isla Lemuy - rural enough to be relaxing and tranquil but accessible enough to ensure that I was able to continue touring around Chiloe. Silvio helped me coordinate my arrival via bus (easy enough from Castro) and picked me up in nearby Puqueldon (about a 40 minute walk from el Castano). The house is spacious, clean and comfortable and my room was absolutely lovely. It had its own bathroom, the bed was very comfortable, and there was a huge bird/tree mural on the wall! There is also a very friendly cat (who often slept in the hammock with me while I read) and horse who I often visited via el Castano's rustic forest trails.
Silvio and Rosanna provide a lovely breakfast each morning, which is included in the price of the room. I spent my days touring around the island, with Silvio's hand drawn maps to guide me. Each evening I would return to one of Rosanna's absolutely delicious meals (8000 pesos for aperitifs, dinner, and dessert) which were a combination of Italian and Chilean cuisine. These meals were a highlight, as Rosanna's food is to-die-for and both hosts shared stories and travel advice, ever patient with my beginner level Spanish.
On my last day, Silvio helped me to coordinate a trip to Caguach, and both hosts woke up at 5 a.m. to drive me to the small port in Puqueldon from where my boat was leaving. I couldn't have asked for more attentive and generous hosts - muchas gracias Silvio y Rosanna!
