Interaction with Guests
We look forward to welcoming you into our home and can help with local information and recommendations.
Holmfirth is renowned as the setting for the Last of the Summer Wine TV series. Nowadays, it has a growing reputation for hosting many arts events including the annual Folk Festival, Food Festival, Art Week and Arts Markets. The Picturedrome is great venue to go and see live bands, and there is an excellent range of restaurants and pubs serving a range of food to suit all tastes. Holmfirth is an excellent base for walking in the surrounding moors and around the many picturesque reservoirs, as well as venturing further afield into the Peak District. If that's not enough activity, there is a local swimming pool and fitness centre.
From our house, Holmfirth is a 10 minute walk downhill, and considerably longer back up! There are regular buses connecting Holmfirth to Huddersfield and further afield. Huddersfield has a railway station with connections to most destinations.
Other Things to Note
We have two friendly dogs, but they are not allowed in the main house and you may not even be aware of them. However, this does mean that we cannot allow pets. We are non-smokers and request that you respect our no- smoking policy
I stayed a night at Kath and Dave's whilst over from france. They are a lovely couple. They couldn't have been more helpful, kind and welcoming. The house is beautiful, the room is very comfortable and it really feels like a home from home. The town of Holmfirth is a real find, lots of cool little independent shops, cafés and restaurants. I'm really happy to have discovered this beautiful English town.
We had a very great time at Holmfirth.Kath and her husband were so friednly and lovely. We felt very good. Particularly the breakfast was fantastic. : )
Wir hatten einen sehr angenehmen Aufenthalt in Holmfirth. Die Familie war sehr nett und liebenswürdig zu uns. Wir fühlten uns sehr wohl und willkommen. Wir würden jederzeit wiederkommen.
Ganz liebe Grüße aus Deutschland, the right hand traffic-land : ))
We had the most wonderful stay with Kath and Dave. We arrived early to a warm welcome and to such a beautiful home. The garden is beautiful and has great views and we spent time chilling out both in the garden and lounge as well as using the kitchen. The bedroom is nicely decorated and the bed was very big and comfy. Breakfast was a lovely bonus and gave us chance to catch up with Kath and Dave before we left. We felt very welcome, as did our 1 year old who loved the attention from the family. Two beautiful dogs which are kept out the way, so don't worry if you are not dog lovers. The location is gorgeous, we'd never been to this part of Yorkshire and were impressed, stunning countryside. A very short drive downhill into holmfirth. Kath's description of her home and the area is spot on, including getting the taxi home... It's a very steep hill! Thanks for a wonderful stay, we plan to come back for longer next time.
Kath and Dave are a lot of fun. Great place to stay; thanks for all of the warm hospitality!
Kath and Dave are lovely people and great hosts. We really enjoyed our stay in their house. They made us feel very welcome. There are some lovely walks and in Holmfirth there are plenty of restaurants and pubs. We would recommend the Tapas restaurant Aldea which is newly furnished and Gamelli a lovely Italian .
We were just blown away by Kath and Dave hospitality. They are the most lovely of hosts, flexible in our arrival time and made sure we had everything we needed, breakfast to die for plus information about local walks and such left in our room. The rooms of the house were better designed than most hotels featuring a lovely bathroom and their personal artwork on the walls, which is absolutely amazing. The location is beautiful too with views over rolling hills from the garden. We couldn't have wanted for better, we definitely recommend staying here.
I stayed with Kathy and David for a few weeks whilst working in the Huddersfield area, I couldn't have hoped for a more welcoming stay and a comfortable and relaxing home away from home. Lovely, friendly hosts - I would greatly recommend this stay to anyone, Jo
Lancashire/Yorkshire rivalry is alive and kicking in our house, myself being from t' other side o't'hill, and my partner David being a Bradford lad!. We are both art teachers and share an interest in all things creative - we love good food, gardening, music and reading, and our home reflects most of these. We like to frequent our local pub quiz, but we're a bit rubbish! We enjoy travel and like to get off the beaten track. We have two friendly dogs who enjoy a walk and any attention they can get.
