The Space

Come rent a private room in the Lucas House. Built in 1909 by the first city counselor of Bend and proprietor of the famous Pilot Butte Inn.

This room is located on the second floor. Each bedroom is fully furnished with a double bed, side tables and lamps, built in dressers and wall art. There are two shared bathrooms. There is a fully furnished kitchen with 2 fridges, so feel free to bring in your own food or walk three blocks to wonderful downtown restaurants and brewpubs. The living room sports a big screen TV, along with wireless internet, cozy in to watch Netflix or head to McMenamins to watch a movie. We also have a gas BBQ for outdoor cooking.

The house has character in keeping with it's age and history with a relaxing cottage-like feel on the inside. You will find original owner murals and interesting brick features and details through out this historic home.

Parking for at least 8 vehicles on site.

  • Host Lee and staff were helpful and informative about the area and "things to do". Location was very close to downtown Bend and walking distance to numerous excellent restaurants. Room 5 which I occupied was comfortable, bed was old and tired. Limited hot water in the show so I used a local recreation center for showers. All in all, an acceptable deal at the price.

  • We stayed at the Lucas House for a night during a brief visit to Bend in room #5. The room was clean and comfortable. Lee Marie was very nice and responsive. Even though we arrived later than expected, she accommodated our arrival time and still greeted us out the house.

  • Lee,
I loved staying at your place.
I am going to invite my family to stay and have the full room on the top floor.
I would recommend your place to anyone.
The other guests were very nice too.
One block from downtown, what more could you ask for?
    Thank you.

    Response from Lee Marie:

Thanks for the suggestion. It being an old house, that is the only vent for heat or the AC. Just part of the charm of a house built in 1909. You are not the first to suggest this however.

  • This was the second stay at the Lucas House for my partner and I. It was every bit as cozy and welcoming as the first time. We didn't leave Portland until after 6 and didn't get into Bend until 9 but Lee was very accommodating in meeting us so late. The house and room were very clean and plenty of towels were provided. We decided to stay in and make dinner instead of going out. The kitchen was stocked with everything we needed (pans, colander, wine key, etc.). At our last stay we slept in room 3 and I found the bed to be perfect. The bed in room 5 was far too firm for my liking, however my partner didn't find it uncomfortable. So if you're more prone to some give in your mattress, you may prefer a different room. Besides my personal bed gripes, we had a lovely time. I particularly enjoyed the access to Roku and Netflix to relax with after a day of trail running and brewery touring. We'd both definitely stay here again. Thanks Lee!

  • Lee was very welcoming and gave us a tour of her home. All the guest rooms are on the top floor, but there are two bathrooms that can be used in the house. There was great water pressure in the shower and lots of clean towels. Also, there is a fridge where you can store your food. There is parking on-site parking at the house and it's a very short walk to downtown Bend. We loved being able to walk everywhere. The Des Chutes Brewery is less than five minutes away! On the downside, the bed in our room (a double) was too small for two people and the mattress was very uncomfortable. Due to it being an old home, the walls are thin and you can hear everything. Overall, we really enjoyed our trip. The affordability of the room, the kindness of our hostess and the friendly atmosphere made this a great getaway!

  • My second visit; this is my place to stay in Bend! One block from old downtown, super-friendly hostess.

  • Nice place for a very reasonable price. Lee and the others were friendly and helpful. The room was quiet, nicely furnished with plenty of light, and large enough that my daughter and I could spread out. Nice shared kitchen and living room. Is about two blocks from downtown, so easy to walk everywhere. Though we were there for only a couple nights to visit my son, it seemed that others stayed there longer and formed a bit of community. I know they have weekly rates. I highly recommend Lucas House.

  • Lee was there at the door welcoming me with a smile. She showed me around the house and shared literature about what is available in Bend, only a short walk away. My room was clean and comfortable. Lee has a beautiful crystal shop on the first floor of the house so be sure to check it out!

  • It was very close to downtown so I was able to walk everywhere I wanted to go. Which was perfect for me because it meant I didn't have to spend money on renting a car. The day of my check out, my flight back home wasn't until late. So she stored my luggage for me while I spent my last afternoon enjoying Bend.

Hello, My name is Lee. I am 45 years old, a business owner and a home owner and have lived in Bend for most of my life. I have a daughter, who has just moved into her own apartment here in Bend and a son, who is living in Tacoma and attending college. I have owned this house for the past 7 years and love the location in the middle of Bend. I have been a log home designer for the past 20 years, yet have embraced the change in economy and started up a new lapidary business in 2012. My studio is at my house and is open for tours. If you have a special rock or mineral that you've always wanted turned into a pendant or placed on a pedestal/light base, lets talk! I am also open to teaching workshops, allowing you to cut your own piece. My interests are many. From creating community and volunteer work. I enjoy the connections made with others. I have been to Burning Man the past three years and feel it is having a larger impact on me, as I open up more to my own potential. I love my house and gardening and making improvements over time. Alot of satisfaction in making my home comfortable and I enjoying sharing it with others. Looking forward to meeting you all. Cheers! Lee Marie Steckler
