The Space

The Space

Vintage trailer transformed into an art retreat: a B&B that runs itself with an artistic aesthetic. Enjoy the piano, music, movies, books, and ambiance in an organized space. Most importantly, this is an affordable retreat for artists. If the shack were surrounded by nothing but green grass, trees, mountains, rivers, streams, and blue skies, it would be an unbeatable oasis, and most likely unaffordable. Come engage any linguistico-cultural stereotypes and open your mind. Free your creativity by following this example.

Situated in a safe neighborhood, which is a small mobile home park, your shabby chic 1970's single wide relic, should you ever wish to traverse outside of its indoor comforts, also offers worry-free outdoor seating & walking paths. We are celiac-grade-gluten-free, hypo-allergenic, and dog-friendly.

Whole Home 'Phat': $50/night
(Separate Listing) Room Only 'Skinny': $35/night

Deck & patio seating & dining offer outdoor enjoyment with a garden view. Three rooms have Flatscreen HD TVs with cable for indoor entertainment.

The Master has a new Queen mattress that is non-toxic, green friendly and topped with an astronaut-grade memory foam mattress-topper and hypoallergenic mattress pad. Fine cotton linens and plenty of pillows. There is a sideboard/dresser for clothing and personal items and a wall-mounted Flatscreen TV with cable.

Buddy Bunk Beds in The Bunkroom are fitted with fine cotton linens and both top and bottom bunks have new mattresses. The top bunk is an auto-inflating pillow top twin air mattress with egg crate padding and mattress cover. Plenty of pillows. The bottom bunk is a real mattress on a trundle that pulls out, day-bed style. Mattress pad and plenty of pillows.

The Phat Tin Commons is set up to accommodate a queen auto-inflating air mattress. The living room entertainment system includes Bose Sound with MP3 port, Blu Ray, DVD, VHS players, and movies.

If reading quietly is preferred, guests may select something from our book collections to enjoy while sitting comfortably by our rustic wood-burning stove.

Order-in from one of the many gluten free menus offered by our local restaurants, OR take advantage of our fully equipped kitchen with its spacious refrigerator ready to chill your locally store-bought groceries, and enjoy home cooked meals.

There is a bathtub & shower, a washer and dryer in the Bunkroom, breakfast and snack foods in the kitchen, HD cable/movies, free parking, city transit, local theatre, gas stations, restaurants, grocery stores, auto/home/garden supply places all on 27th street -- basically around the corner.

The neighborhood is surrounded with as many restaurants, stores, shops, cafes, and grocery options as one's heart could possibly desire, and the bonus is the ability to walk most everywhere you'll find yourself needing to go for food and shopping. And if driving is preferable, enjoy the ample parking available everywhere you choose to drive.

  • Staying at the Tin Shack was such a pleasure. Myself and a few others from the company we work for were here for Summerfest and it was a great place to end a long day. It's cozy and comfortable. Even the neighbors are friendly; unlike Chicago, they want to talk about your day and how you're doing! I would highly recommend staying here - it's just a short 15 minute drive to downtown Milwaukee, but Oak Creek certainly has some spots of its own.

  • We had a great stay at the tin shack. Suzanne is well organized and provides lots of info to have a comfortable stay. The bed was so comfy!!

  • Our stay at the Tin Shack was amazing and relaxing. The Tin Shack for us was
truly a home away from home. We were so comfortable and felt very welcome. We felt very cozy to have cotton sheets, organic gluten free food and the fresh clean air of Oak Creek. The home Suzanne shares with others is inviting, sweet and organized so simply yet effectively. We look forward to staying at the Tin Shack again in the future :)

  • Communication with Suzanne was great. And we really enjoyed our stay at the tin shack. It's a large trailer in a trailer park on the south side of Milwaukee and was convenient for us coming from the highway. We found it to be a charming space and extremely clean. Suzanne has paid careful attention to many details of her home and she has everything ready to make guests comfortable. It was actually like a self-serve bed-and-breakfast because she left us food in the fridge and invited us to eat it. She has friendly labels throughout the house which made us feel comfortable using her things. Everything had it's place and it was a really fun and functional space. The bed was very comfortable and we slept well. We will likely stay there again if we return to the Milwaukee area.

    Response from Suzanne:

Thanks, Sacha, and this is a small mobile home park, which we refer to as 'Park' in the listing because we feel that using the vernacular "Trailer Park" reinforces a nasty trashy stereotype, which this park does not warrant. For semantic specificity, the actual title is: Mobile Home Park.

  • Suzanne was a great host even before we arrived she gave us an entire list of places to see and things to do. Our arrival was very smooth with Suzanne's detailed directions. The neighborhood was clean and the neighbors were very inviting. The shack was exactly as we expected and better. The entire home was very comfortable and clean. The queen bed was sooo comfortable. The complinentary food items were yummy and healthy too! We enjoyed sitting on the private porch drinking French coffee in the morning. The arrangements worked out great for us and our two dogs. The shack is in a great location to visit downtown Milwaukee and the surrounding areas. Suzanne even left an extra day open for us to fit our flexible schedule. We will definitely stay again when we come back for more cheese and beer.

  • This is the chicest trailer you are gonna find, and it's ridiculously clean and comfortable to-boot. I didn't actually meet Suzanne, but if I was going to judge her based on her space and her communication with me, she is kind-hearted, conscientious, and just a really cool person. I would highly recommend staying here to anyone.

  • Suzanne was the most wonderful host. She was extremely communicative with lots of detailed directions, and the whole stay experience was quite pleasant. I loved everything about her place. It is decorated in such an eclectic, artistic, and warm way. It all felt so cozy, clean, and nice! My favorite part was the super comfortable bed and all of the organic/natural products thoughtfully provided, both in the bathroom and kitchen. Suzanne truly knows how to make someone feel at home. I would most certainly come back and stay at "The Rustic Modern Phat Tin Shack" next time I am in Milwaukee!

About
Opening my doors to savvy travelers looking for a unique bed and breakfast experience has created many meaningful moments. I have met a number of intensely beautiful people. In the last year of sharing my space to individuals interested in honoring the arts and overcoming deeply embedded linguistico-cultural stereotypes, I have learned that the open-minded are growing in numbers. A singer/songwriter, I also love to read & write children's books, hike, camp, and play piano. A lifelong student, I enjoy my hospitality role as well as life as a musician. Recently I have decided to combine palliative care with music therapy and create a unique service for folks looking to get help writing their life song. I also practice life/home organization, and hope my efforts are reflected in The Shack -- a home that runs itself. I am fortunate to be able to feel at home in at least two states: Wisconsin and Idaho. Lake Michigan and its many parks have so much to offer including breathtaking views and numerous outdoor activities. National forests throughout this great outdoor state, like nearby Kettle Moraine Forest, also keep us loyally spoiled. When the cold winter Wisco months stack up and its novelties wear thin, Idaho travel sets in.
