The Space

Due to demand, we only respond to fully verified guests who provide a clear profile photo, full name, age, name of current employer and/or school, and descriptive purpose of visit. Thank you for your understanding.

Live in in the heart of Little Tokyo and the Arts District with other international travelers and visitors! Clean, convenient, and inexpensive. You won't find a better deal in LA.

Furnished dorm room available for minimum four days, long term stays encouraged. Rooms come with closet, sink, bed, desk, chair and mini fridge. Unfurnished rooms are also available, please see our other listings.

LENGTH OF STAY - We generally accept reservations of 30 days maximum length. If you wish to reserve for a longer period you may discuss that with the apartment manager after you check in for your initial stay.

ROOM DESCRIPTION: Private rooms are for one individual, have locks on doors, and come with a sink. Kitchen, toilet, shower rooms are shared, and professionally cleaned each day. This is a dorm-style atmosphere with great long-term tenants, international travelers, and a friendly on-site manager. Please bring your own towel. This room is similar to the others I have listed, that's why I am just using the same photo. For views of the premises look at the other properties. Thank you for not requesting additional photos of the rooms.

INTERNET: Free wi-fi is available in the living room and dining area, but due to usage it can be VERY slow. If you rely upon wi-fi for work you should arrange your own wireless modem or you can go to starbucks nearby.

PARKING: Free street parking is available nearby (but it goes quickly), otherwise it is $4.00/day at the meters or $4.00/day at the nearby lot. Metered spots are enforced from 6 am - 4 pm and they also cost $4.00 per day.

GETTING THERE: From LAX take the FlyAway bus ($7.00 one way) to Union Station, then take the Gold Line to the Little Tokyo stop. The building is two short blocks away.

WEEKEND ARRIVAL: Please keep in mind that if you are arriving on a Saturday or Sunday the manager may not be there in person to let you in, but there is a lockbox from which you retrieve your keys.

CHECKING IN: Check-in is at 3 pm, Check-out is at 12 noon. Once your reservation is accepted you will receive a phone number for the on-site manager, Alex (different from the one currently listed). Please contact him immediately to discuss check-in details. Please do not wait until the last minute to call. Thank you!

SECURITY DEPOSIT: Because most of our tenants are long-term guests, our security deposit is the equivalent of one month's rent. The deposit is held by Airbnb through your credit card and they will return it to you after your stay. We have had a couple hundred individual reservations with our building and have only had to make deductions for damages a couple of times. If you are a responsible guest, you should have no worries.

ADDITIONAL GUESTS: Additional guests are not allowed without prior notification and prior permission given by the host. Unless agreed to otherwise, any additional guests who stay past 10 pm will be charged an additional $10 per night. If an additional guest is brought without prior permission and paid for in advance, you may lose your security deposit or have your reservation cancelled. Thank you in advance for not bringing overnight guests without prior permission.

Guest Access

Shared bathrooms are cleaned daily, as is the shared kitchen. Laundry facilities are on site. We have a communal, international atmosphere.

Interaction with Guests

Alex is the on-site apartment manager and can answer all of your questions.

  • I will probably stay here again. Convenient location for Little Tokyo and 'Arts District'. It has the feeling of an honest flop-house from the pen of Raymond Chandler or Dashiell Hammett, or a grown-up art school dormitory.

It was surprisingly quiet, with the pleasant hum and clatter of other residents on the weekend morning. Don't expect luxury or amenities, bring your own towel. The kitchen utensils appear to be a random selection left behind by past residents, but if you just want to boil water or make toast you'll be fine. The room was clean and adequately furnished. The common areas were clean enough. For me, no AC is a plus --I'd rather open the window and not listen to the buzz of machines all night...

Alex, the off-site manager was friendly and helpful. Altogether, a good experience.

  • The place was very near to the metro and downtown! Also the place was quite peaceful and good to sleep at night...I didn't need more than that !

  • It's clean and safe. The bed was actually quite comfortable too. Great value for money with the price. So close to many great things in the Downtown area.

  • I spent a week here for an interview process and it was great. Everybody was friendly and the place was the clean. If i ever have to go back to LA I would stay again and recommend it to anybody that is headed there.

  • El lugar esta bien ubicado, es limpio y práctico respecto del transporte publico. Alex el gerente es una persona amable y servicial. Volveré cuando esté en los Angeles.

  • Close to transport and great food! Noise from neighbours was significant though. Good for a place to stay if you want to explore and not spend a lot of time in your room I think. Thanks!

  • Not having wifi was disappointing. Sometimes the connection was okay for emailing, but certainly never strong enough for (website hidden) or even youtube or Pandora. The closest cafe with working wifi is about a ten minute walk. A shame, since I would have rated this place a star higher if it had working wifi.

Also, while there is a kitchen, no silverware or cookware is provided--bring your own.

Frankly, the entire place is bare minimum. No towels provided, no room or beddings cleanings for month long stays, no blinds, no computer/printer, no acceptin(website hidden) at address, no cookware, no wifi, etc.

    That said, the positive:

I was surprised how safe the neighborhood is. And the fellow residents--many of them staying long-term--were mostly above board. Almost like an international hostel feel.

The room itself is functional. A desk, a small fridge, a decent bed. The property and common areas are cleaned every day, and this shows--no complaints on the cleanliness. Hot water always available, and seldom a line for the common showers, bathrooms, etc. Coin-op washer and dryer were good, if not a little expensive.

For the price, especially the monthly rate, good value.

Little Tokyo itself is a cool, funky area. And its near the other hip downtown neighborhoods (Arts district, Fashion district). Though the main part of downtown--7th & Fig--is about 5km/2mile, 40-miunte walk. And my one complaint about the light rail line is, it doesn't go downtown--it heads to Union Station, where you have to switch trains to get to 7th & Fig, which means it takes as much time to walk there than it does to take the train.

Alex the manager was friendly. He's not on the property all the time, though.

  • This is my favorite place to stay in L.A.

  • Enjoyed my stay here. Clean rooms, air con, quiet.
Downtown may get a bad rap, but this area is fine. Plenty of great cafes, and restaurants (The Bratwurst joint is a must!) Close to the metro, which I found to be the best mode of transport. Close to Greyhound station too.
Only issue was the wi-fi was very weak. Non existent in my room, and most of the complex, and when you did find a pocket that it worked in it would drop out. I hate to mention something so minuscule, and there is a Starbucks down the road, but when you're traveling and trying to organize things it is an unwanted pain.
    Would certainly recommended this place

  • Had a nice, comfortable stay here for a super affordable price. Very easy access to public transport, and Little Tokyo itself is a great neighbourhood to explore.
