Appreciate peaceful use and gentile presence on creek :-)
Absolutely lovely people, very warm, and Linda went out of her way to engage with our kids and make them feel special. Really big outdoor deck where I decided to sleep under the stars. The meandering creek is a sweet respite on hot summer days.
The outdoor shower works great, and the propane burners are hefty and hot. You will be using a porta-potty, but it's clean and perfectly fine.
Sweet hosts, sweet forested surroundings. We plan to return…maybe to see the salmon run upstream in the winter.
We booked last minute due to work constraints and were fortunate that this rustic cabin in the woods was available. Linda and Steve were away during our stay, but they left a lovely note making us feel very welcome and the cabin was aglow with few LED tea light candles upon our late arrival.
We enjoyed all aspects of the space from the pleasure of whipping up feasts on the outdoor cooking space to sipping morning coffee around the crackling fire whilst trying to spot the owl that we could hear but not quite see. The kitchen had a full size fridge and all the utensils one could need to create many a scrumptious meal on the outdoor fire after a day of hiking. We only wished we could have stayed on longer...
Great cabin in the woods!! Linda was amazing and the area was absolutely beautiful. Would definitely recommend for someone wanting a retreat.
It's a really beautiful setting with nicely maintained grounds and creek area. Having the hot outdoor shower (and hot water for washing dishes) was amazing! Also loved the outdoor camp stove and full size fridge for cooking. We slept out on the deck every night which was perfect.
The hosts weren't around when we stayed but there was plenty of communication to make sure we knew our way around.
For the most part, we couldn't get wifi in and around house but in parts of the yard we could catch enough connection to communicate when it was necessary.
Our hosts were welcoming and warm, giving us the scoop upon arrival as far as what we needed to know about their rustic and clean cabin in the woods. We LOVED the campfire pit (wood provided) and the outdoor shower and the sound of the creek. Our expectations were exceeded! Slept great and hope to return!
We truly loved our stay in "Thoreau's Cabin!" Linda and Steve are exceptionally welcoming and kind. They are excellent hosts who really care that you are having a good experience. We can't wait to go back! The cabin is well set-up and Linda and Steve have done a great job in creating its own little niche on the property to give it a very private feel. The creek is peaceful and has lots of great skipping stones. If you are looking to spend some peaceful time in the forest, this is the place.
We had a great weekend in this cozy cabin in the woods. I'd recommend it to anyone wanting to spend a relaxing weekend away in a semi-primitive cabin. The hosts were easy to communicate with and we had no problems getting settled even with them out of town.

Hi! I am a Retired Eugene 4jTeacher and current UO instructor. My husband, Steve, is a builder/carpenter. We are both naturalists and trained in outdoor education and connections with the natural world. For the last decade, through our own school, Campsight, we have shared instructional experiences and inspiring adventure at our precious lands here in Walton on Chickahominy Creek. We are continued students of the wilderness that surrounds us daily in this incredible Coast Range environment. It is our passion to share it's wonders, beauty, and the revitalizing magic. It is our hope that those who find us via the Bed and Breakfast option, will (re)discover the simple joys of earth-time and nature immersion!
