Other Things to Note
We have lived here for over 56 years and enjoy the history of this great area:
"The Town of East Marion was founded in 1836, to honor local native General Francis Marion, who fought with notation during the American Revolution."
"Sailing the east end waters one can't help but think about all the history. Most of it precedes the 1900's. Starting off, Orient Point, which is the most north point of the North Fork was a landing place for Indians commuting between Connecticut and Long Island.
The Indians that dwelled on that outer-most section of the North Fork were called the Poquatuck. It was with this tribe that deals were made to buy many of the hamlets of the Town of Southold, mostly back in the mid 1600's.
Then Orient was actually called Oysterponds because of the large shellfish ponds that are still there to this day. Five now-famous families received land grants from the British throne. The names King, Terry, Vail, Latham, and Tuthill are still everywhere. Of course they also had to deal with the Poquatucks.
During the American Revolution the British Navy sailed some of the evacuated British troops from Boston to the South Fork mostly in Sag Harbor and East Hampton Village. Sag Harbor was already a busy whaling port by then. Many of the homes that housed British troops still exist in Sag Harbor. During the Revolutionary War the British supply and support vessels were parked right off Orient point."

We had an excellent stay at Julie and Maria's. She was extremely welcoming and accommodating, and the house was very clean, spacious, and had a great outdoor area (pool, yard, trampoline, grill). The surrounding area was perfect for what we wanted to do in a weekend--a gorgeous private beach down the street, and about 3 miles into town (Greenport) for eating/drinking/touring/train.
We had an excellent stay at Julie and Maria's. The swimming pool was really awesome, and we had a great time cooking up locally caught fish on the outdoor grill.
The beach is just a two minute walk away, and it's a beautiful spot. Giant rocks, Ospreys, and an incredible view of eastern Long Island Sound give it a prehistoric feel.
Definitely going back in the Fall. Thanks again Maria!
Staying at Maria's suite felt just like home!
What a wonderful stay with wonderful hosts. We planned a birthday weekend and BBQ in the beautiful huge backyard with a fun saltwater pool (which we enjoyed very much!) Maria was super helpful at all time; before and during our stay. The location is just perfect; short walk to a nearby beach and lavender farm. We look forward to coming back!
Nicki and Maria were wonderful. Very helpful and accommodating. The lodgings were very nice and we enjoyed the saltwater swimming pool tremendously. Located in a beautiful and quiet neighborhood, our stay was fun and rejuvenating. Nearby Greenport has everything you need. Highly recommended.
Great spot, lovely house and beach. Don't show up to this part of North Fork without a car, though.
Maria and Julie were very sweet and accommodating hosts. The house was beautiful, especially the outdoor space and pool in the backyard! We would definitely stay again, and recommend anyone looking for a trip to the North Fork do the same.
Julie was a great host, very welcoming and sweet. The description of the house including the outdoor area was extremely accurate. We had our own private suite and bathroom and were able to use her lovely yard and pool and the house is in a great location very close to the beach and to the main part of town. Julie made sure that we were taken care of and was all around lovely to meet! Should we ever travel to the area again we'd love to stay there again!
