Just a 10 minute drive from Downtown Detroit, enjoy a private rooftop with skyline views, a full private bar, and handcrafted details throughout. Spend the evening downstairs at The Black Salt, where cocktails meet ritual, then retreat upstairs to a home unlike anywhere else in the city.
The space
A Building with a Story
Built in 1917, this building has welcomed guests for more than a century. It began as a neighborhood grocery before quietly becoming a Prohibition era speakeasy in 1921. Over the decades it evolved into a neighborhood tavern, later a three story nightclub, and today is home to The Black Salt.
When I purchased the building in 2022, I restored the upper floors as my home while opening The Black Salt on the first floor. This apartment is where I welcomed my daughter home as a newborn and where our family made countless memories. Today, I'm grateful to share that same space with guests from around the world.
The Apartment
The apartment comfortably sleeps up to 10 guests across two floors and includes:
• Three separate living rooms
• A private rooftop deck with skyline views
• A private cocktail bar
• A fully equipped kitchen
• Two Smart TVs with sound systems
• Primary suite with a queen bed, dressing room, private balcony, and ensuite bathroom
• Second bedroom with a queen bed
• Third bedroom with two twin beds
• Two queen sleeper sofas with bedding provided
• Two full bathrooms
Every room has been personally designed and restored over several years. Much of the furniture, artwork, books, and décor are part of my own collection, creating a home that feels personal, layered, and unlike a typical vacation rental.
The Black Salt
One floor below the apartment is The Black Salt, a craft cocktail bar inspired by folklore, astrology, and ritual. Guests often begin the evening downstairs with handcrafted cocktails before retreating upstairs to enjoy the rooftop, private bar, or a quiet night in.
The apartment and the bar were designed to complement one another, creating a stay that is unique and immersive.
A Few Things to Know Before Booking
• The apartment is located above an operating cocktail bar. While the apartment is well insulated, Saturdays during September and October feature live music from approximately 9:00 PM to 1:00 AM.
• Because the apartment shares space with The Black Salt cocktail bar and includes a private bar, the space is best suited for adult groups. Guests under 21 are welcome only when accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
• The apartment is accessed by exterior stairs and includes multiple staircases, balconies, and a private bar. For these reasons, it is generally not recommended for young children.
• Longer stays receive discounted nightly rates, making the apartment especially well suited for extended weekends and vacations.
• Please take a moment to review the Additional Rules before booking. They help preserve this special space and ensure every guest has an exceptional stay.
• Because this is a unique, owner-operated home, cancellations can significantly impact availability. Please review our cancellation policy before booking and consider purchasing travel insurance if your plans may change.

Guest access
The apartment has a private entrance located behind the building.
Guests enter through a gated patio shared with The Black Salt before taking an exterior staircase to the apartment. While the entrance is a little different than a traditional apartment or hotel, most guests find it simple to navigate using the detailed check-in guide and photos provided before arrival.
The apartment occupies the entire second and third floors, giving your group complete privacy throughout your stay.
You'll have exclusive access to:
• The entire apartment
• A private rooftop deck with skyline views
• A private balcony
• A private cocktail bar
• The fully equipped kitchen and all living spaces
Parking is free in the lot directly across the street. If you're unloading luggage, you're welcome to briefly pull into the alley next to the gate before parking.
The exterior of the property is well lit and monitored by security cameras for guest safety. Three keyless locks (the gate, exterior door, and apartment door) all use the same access code, making self check-in easy at any hour.
Please note that the apartment is accessed by stairs only. There is no elevator.
Self check-in is available after 3:00 PM. We ask guests to arrive by 11:00 PM whenever possible. If your travel plans require a later arrival, please contact us before booking so we can confirm that we can accommodate it.

The person making the reservation must also be staying at the apartment. Third-party bookings are not permitted.

The apartment above the bar was my home where I raised my baby and is filled with family heirlooms. It holds many magical memories.
