Please be aware our front door can slam loudly (no spring) so hold it if you are coming in late hours. My neighbor across the hall has a small child. Also the bedroom doorknobs will make the bedroom doors kinda loud if you don't twist the knob and close it quietly so I do ask all guests to be courteous of others who may have working hours or light sleepers if you do come in and out late of closing doors quietly. xo
A huge disappointment. The neighborhood is great and the room itself is quite nice, though there are some problems to be mentioned : the insulation is not good, because of a gap between the AC (which is very noisy) and the window, which leaves some air (hot or cold) into the room. You can hear every sound in the street – fortunately, it is quite calm. During the first half of my stay, while Valerie was in South Africa, she kept asking me to do things I wasn’t supposed to do : get more keys for the future guests (which I did), make myself available to welcome those guests, take picture of the couch, and finally « be the policeman » in the apartment (one of the guests, legitimately unsatisfied with his room which did not match the picture he saw, chose to sleep on the couch, and Valerie asked me to keep him from doing that – which I did not). When she was back, we were then 6 people sharing the flat. I guess the purpose is to make as money as possible, but it also affects the general comfort. The single bathroom was dirty all the time (how could it not be ?). One of the guests was Valerie’s friend and together they chatted very loud in the living room and smoked until very late at night. One day, I came back in the afternoon and found that the internet modem was missing : I assume she took it away with her, though she later denied. All that demonstrates a total lack of respect for the guests. I finally chose to move away a few days before the end of my rent, because I started to feel very bad there.
I have stayed with Valerie once before and just like last time, she was very welcoming and hospitable. She is probably one of the nicest people you could ever meet.
The apartment is kept clean and orderly with a nice comfortable bed.
Valerie was very accommodating and helpful during our stay. She arranged bikes for us (at no extra charge) and a cell phone that we could use as well, which was over and beyond what we expected.
The experience varied between a full house (6 people) and an empty flat (just the two of us) during our stay, so be prepared for anything between a flat-share and private accommodation. With one bathroom, you might have to wait.
Location is quiet and in a nice neighborhood. Be prepared for around 30 - 45 minutes to get into Manhattan (depending on where you want to go). Wiliamsburg and DUMBO are easy to reach.
Really nice room. Lots of sun and nice bed. Valarie was a fascinating host.
I appreciated and enjoyed my stay at Valerie home. She was welcoming and greeted us with a delicious Christmas dinner. The apartment was very clean, and the room was spacious and bright. The location was conveniently close to the subway station. Valerie was so welcoming and someone trustworthy. I would recommend this place to anyone.
