The Space

1 Beautiful high ceiling and SPACIOUS room (20 x12 ft) Room can sleep 2-4 people. [2 beds, each sleeps 1-2 (bottom); 1 full airbed sleeps 1-2; 1 twin bed (top)]. this is a 3 bedroom share apartment with gorgeous hardwood floors, in an artsy loft building in very trendy area. Apartment is 1000 square feet. This space has a loft shared in same room and is rented as 2 spaces so friends can stay in the top of the loft and the bottom to add more people (see listing for the loft as well or inquire to me with a message). It is rented by different parties if you rent one space.

Your room is in an apartment shared by other 2 other working professionals (in 2 bedrooms of their own) w a mini greyhound in 1 room that is super tame and quiet and does not bark. The space is extremely Gay friendly. ;p xo

Everything in the apartment in common areas. You can even use my bike to go across the Brooklyn Bridge if you'd like. The key to the lock around the seat on the bike is in the glass candle holder on the shelf behind the couch. Fee free but if you take it out please lock both wheels or they will steal the bike in 5 minutes. Truly no worries if you'd like to use it though.

Interaction with Guests

I don't mind chatting if i'm home and in town.

The Neighborhood

It's Brooklyn!! What more can I say? Brooklyn is the NEW Mahattan!

This neighborhood is amazing culture and has the best kept secrets so use yelp site for Clinton Hill Brooklyn or Time Out to find out what's going on.

These are the hotspots walking distance so enjoy! Home of the original famous JR's Cheesecake (walking distance), from South African restaurant named after Nelson Mandela called Madiba's , Spike Lee's 4Acres and a Mule and authentic underground railroad spots from American History you can visit, to Brooklyn Academy of Music, to Barclays to see world class music concerts or NBA games.

We have every type of food in this neighborhood from authentic Jewish bagel spots made fresh on the premises, to authentic Italian pizza, to American diners for burgers, to South African restaurant named after Nelson Mandela called Madiba's. There's also Middle Eastern, Thai, Cuban, Soul Food, Caribbean, Mexican, Korean, Japanese, French to Brooklyn Tap house with authentic Brooklyn brewed beers on tap, to a bar w appetizers and Karoake.. ALL just in walking distance!

There are lots of trendy hip spots too many to name from the specialty doughnut shop all of NYC is raving about called DOUGH, to vegan bakery with slamming cinnamon buns called Clementine Bakery, to music venues to hear live music like Free Candy or Brooklyn Bowl.

In my building is a coffee expresso spot open 6am-8p with free wifi, and an amazing Korean restaurant downstairs.

I'm so close to Barclays to see Brooklyn Nets basketball or Rihanna in concert, or BAM to see Modern dance or foreign films, or shop at Macy's downtown Brooklyn.

Not much more to say. :)
HOPE TO SEE YOU SOON!

Getting around

You can travel via taxi approx $45 (JFK) -$60 (LGA) to my apartment.

Subway/metro is 1 block from my apartment and if you'd like to see the neighborhood you can also take a bus 1 block away as well to take you into downtown for shopping or near Brooklyn Bridge and promenade for sight seeing.

You can even walk to the Manhattan or Brooklyn Bridges from my apartment.

  • I was extremely disappointed. I had stayed with this host before, and the location was perfect for what I needed to do, despite limitations of the actual space (no AC, too much light in the bedroom, sharing the single bathroom with quite a few other people, no closet space).

This host refused to respond to our request, over a month in advance, to add a fourth person to our reservation. We were forced to find another accommodation for two of our party. Despite this, our host refused to correct the reservation to make it for the actual 2 people who were staying there! She charged us for three people, despite the fact that only two of us were there. If she had responded to us in a timely way she could've charged for 4 people.

I made repeated attempts to work it out with her without success.

Due to the location, I would have returned again and again. She has lost my future business and my goodwill.

  • Valerie's place is convenient as its location. It is very easy to get to the city, which made us trip a lot more fun and less suffering on roads. Also she helps you with so many tips for entertainments in the city. You can use the kitchen and the living room all you want. there are great places to eat different types of food and enjoy other cuisines in the neighborhood as well. So you may not use the kitchen at all:) and even though it was snowing outside we were just wearing tshirts at the place. so it's really warm. hope everyone enjoys their stay! I'm sure you will.

  • Valerie was great! She was so hospitable and the room and place were just what we needed.

  • Valerie was extremely accommodating and a pleasant host. This apartment is in a great location and has most of the amenities you need. The bathroom is nice, she was very accommodating of our late to bed-late to rise schedule. After the trip I now consider Valerie a friend, she came out to the Lower East Side and watched our band played and hung out as well. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay personally, but in an effort to be fair and honest I will list the small complaints made by band members: cat odor, living room occupied (this isn't common though Val explained, just a full house at the moment.)

Once again, I'd recommend this place to anyone, and it would be even more cozy if we weren't travelling in a flock of 5! Thanks for everything Val!

  • Valerie was a great host. We arrived in the city at an early hour, and she went out of her way to ensure we had an easy arrival/access to the apartment. When we met for the first time, we shared great conversation and she really is a people person, which is important for any good host. Val also gave us some neat tips on places to go for entertainment and eat. The location of the apartment is very good for connections to the subway - 2 mins from the apartment and you're on the G line. I wasn't sure what to expect of Brooklyn as an area to stay in, but we met some very nice people during our 3 day stay. Even the local store owners around the corner (handy for buying groceries), were kind and helpful. Overall, this is a great place to stay if you're in NYC for a short time.

  • Valerie was an incredible host. She made you feel comfortable in her space and was quite accommodating. The apartment is in a great location to the G train, which makes getting to Manhattan quite easy. Overall, I recommend this spot for anyone needing a nice place to throw their bags down and go enjoy the city.

  • This was so neat - I was looking for a place near my daughter in Brooklyn, and it turned out that Valerie was in the same building! I had already booked with her when I realized the happy coincidence!

  • Pros:
2 min from the subway, 40min to midtown Manhattan, 1 hour to flushing Main Street.
Café and restaurant is right under the building.
Deli store close really late and you can get breakfast and drinks.
Supermarket less than 1 min walk that has almost everything you want.
    Police station 1 min walk.
    Cons:
-You can’t use oven when it’s 90F above.
-You can’t keep the lights on for longer than 6 hours, host will turn it off.
-Host usually rent out every room and sleep on the couch herself. So in this case you can’t use microwave in the morning, because she will be waked up.
-You can’t close/lock your door, because 1. There is no window, no A/C in the room (A/C is in the living room), so if you close the door the room will be so hot even it has 3 mini fans inside. 2. You have to pay 10 bucks to get the key to lock.
-Which brings me to another problem, people can walk in your room when you are gone, and you won’t feel comfortable when you see your stuff has been moved, will you?
-Stuff been stolen! This is something you never expect to happen but it happened to me. Ice-cream in the fridge was stolen without notice, 2 freaking times! A whole pack of potato chip stolen from my ROOM! I put it on couch in my room and it was gone when I got back. Host blamed the one who checked out that day when I found my chips were gone, which I have no way to prove who took it.
-Mattress was switched when I was not at home. It was a big one and someone switched it without telling me.
-Host has a ticket from court, and will blame you for not telling her. One of the roommates is moving out, host will blame you for not telling her she is moving out, EVEN YOU DON’T KNOW.
-Don’t be too nice, host will ask you to feed her cat, which is annoying because her cat is old and if you play a little rough on her she will bite you, no mercy. Not to mention, cat’s litter smells so bad. Also, her groaning at night is scary and waked me up even I am a deep sleeper.

-I might be a picky guy, but this is my TRUE story.

    Response from Valerie:

Chen stayed in my home for 41 days during his internship in NY. He would
be in the apt when he was not at work M-F 8am-5pm, & would speak on the
phone from 6p till 2am each night where I would sometimes ask him to shut
his door because he would talk so loudly. I did have to ask him to a few
things such as take out his own empty bottles or garbage, not talk each
night so loudly on the phone from midnight or late as 2am if other people
were sleeping or had arrived after long travel. I asked him politely to not
have the house lights on each day all day long (on the weekends would be up
to 15 hrs a day) or 8 hrs after work. He never told me he had any problems
while he stayed other than he said 1 ice cream bar was missing when I was
out of town. I asked him if he wanted me to replace it because I wasnt sure
who had done it & he said no. He never said anything was wrong with his
stay other than complaining in this review, after he left. Some of the
things he even offered to do like giving my cat some food (when I have a
few neighbor friends that are glad to do it) because he said he loved cats.
My cat is also about to be 18 and is super sweet just old. Since I had 2
other rooms I could of moved him to if he was THAT unhappy with the
temperature because there are 2 air conditioners in the apartment. We also
did have record breaking summer heat wave (the worse in history too) during
his stay. Even once I called him from New Orleans where I was working on a
music event with President Obama to ask him if everything was ok. He told
me "yes". I would suggest that his lack of was the problem with his stay
with me. If you open your home to someone and they refuse to be honest
about the way they feel so you can have a chance to correct it then what
can someone truly expect you to do? Chen was even the only one home once
when the door was left completely wide open (ajar) and not locked & said it
wasnt him. I just asked him to be aware that people in nyc do get robbed &
didn't react in a negative way to him. He might have had a different
reaction staying in someone else's home. I wish that he felt his experience
was better but you can not please everyone. Unfortunately for some people
the glass is 1/2 empty or 1/2 full. I had Shawn (review below) stay with me
at the exact same time that Chen was staying and he was obviously happy
because this was his 2nd time staying with me.
