The cottage has 50 m² of living space and a 1,500 m² garden. It is located on the lagoon of Lake Hainer, 20 km south of Leipzig, and stands out from the other new "holiday cubes" due to its older cottage charm. Instead of the usual mass-produced veneered furniture, there is unique decor, a beautiful view of the jetty, a wood-burning stove, lots of things for children, and fruit trees to harvest from. There is everything a small family could ever need for a few relaxing days away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
The space
LIVING ROOM WITH KITCHEN ON THE GROUND FLOOR
On the first floor there is a 23 square meter living room with kitchenette, fireplace and sofa bed with 140 x 200 bed surface as well as a dining table overlooking the sailboats. In the kitchenette there is a 2-burner ceramic stovetop, a small oven, fridge with ice box as well as toaster, kettle, French press coffee pot, waffle iron, espresso pot, spices and coffee.
MINI SUPERMARKET IN THE FARMER'S CABINET
In the farm cupboard I have set up a small "supermarket". Some foods such as soups, ready-made meals and snacks as well as drinks are always there.
DOUBLE BED IN THE ATTIC
The attic is accessible via a steep so-called "space-saving staircase" and has a floor area of around 20 square meters. Here there is a double bed with 140 x 200 mattress and a travel bed for toddlers. In addition, there is a folding mattress here. However, this is not a full-fledged sleeping place. It is only suitable as an emergency bed for a child if you do not want to use the sofa bed in the living room downstairs or if the child wants to sleep upstairs. There is also a smart TV with DVB-T2 antenna (public channels plus Internet streaming) and DVD player with a small DVD collection. There are also some games and many books & magazines. From the attic you can reach a small covered balcony.
P L A Y A R E A F O R C H I L D R E N
For children, there are building blocks, Playmobil, stuffed animals and a shop in the attic. The attic can be closed by a folding hatch and the children can then safely romp around upstairs. In the garden there is a swing tire on the tree, badminton set, balls and equipment for the beach. Furthermore, I have some inline skates and children's roller skates there.
CANOE & WHEELS
In the garden there is a canoe for 2 adults and 2 children. You have to carry the canoe across the street and down a staircase. From there you can launch it from the jetty. Life jackets are provided. In the shed there are also three 28" touring bikes, a 26" women's bike and four children's bikes of different sizes, tricycle and Bobby Car. The bikes can be used free of charge. But please don't expect high-tech wheels. They're old clunkers, but they all still roll well. The bikes are perfectly sufficient for a ride around the lake during the day.
LOTS OF DELICIOUS FRUIT TO HARVEST
Many delicious berry bushes and fruit trees grow in the garden: in spring paradise for buzzing bees & bumblebees, in summer snack paradise for you. You can harvest blackberries, raspberries, blueberries, apples, cherries, grapes, black & red currants, peaches, plums, pears and elderberries.
BED LINEN & FINAL CLEANING
Please note the information on the optional additional costs for final cleaning and bed linens in the "House rules" section. You can reduce these additional costs to zero with a little initiative by bringing bed linen and towels and swinging the cleaning cloth yourself at the end of the trip. Many guests have already done this well.
Guest access
Everything is available to be used. During your stay I am not in the cabin, you have everything to yourselves!
Other things to note
If you have any problems here on the Airbnb homepage, please go to my own homepage. Simply enter "Oettis Haus" in your search engine. There you will find more information/photos of the house and the surroundings as well as my contact details. Feel free to call me.
NEIGHBORHOOD
The Schillercafe, about 200 meters away, is often booked in summer for wedding parties. Sometimes on the weekend, the neighborhood celebrates longer.
HEATING & FIREPLACE
The house has electric heating and is therefore also very habitable in winter. Nevertheless, at this point the note: In terms of comfort, it is not central heating, as is customary in most city apartments. If it snows and the temperature is minus 10 degrees, the cozy stove is turned on in addition to the radiators!
THE CABIN IS NOT A SPACE MIRACLE!
The cabin is not small, but it is not a space miracle either. If you occupy the hut with 4 people, you should be familiar with each other.
CHARM OF THE IMPERFECT
The cabin was built around 1987 and expanded as a vacation cottage in 2011. But it remains a "forest hut" with the charm of the imperfect and a small green jungle around it.
That's why many of my guests keep coming back. In Oetti's hut, the focus is not on luxury or brightly polished high-gloss furniture as in many of the new building cubes on the lagoon, but on the individual, here and there with a few signs of wear and attached patina. We also use the cabin for ourselves, have furnished it the way we like it and would like to share it with you. Exactly in the spirit of (original) Airbnb. If Netflix & design furniture in black & chrome and a concrete-paved carport is more important to you than a wild garden and used look, please book something else 😉
GARDEN HUT MEANS INSECTS
The location in the countryside means that there are sometimes spider webs, a fly or a firefly buzzing through the room and sometimes a mouse gets lost on the property. In contrast to a sterile hotel room, there will always be some "traces of nature."
VILLAGE CATS
The village cats are sweet and sometimes a little too trusting. As soon as you don't look, they grab something from the terrace table. If they annoy you, please scare them away and show them who's boss here 😉

Neighborhood highlights
The property is located in the middle of Leipzig's Neuseenland on the outskirts of the old village of Kahnsdorf and a small forest. Out front you can look at the lagoon of Lake Hainer and out back into the park with the historic ensemble of the Schiller and mansion. Here is the Schillercafe, a parking pond, a nice children's playground and a ball court. In the Schillercafe you can also book tours with alpacas. In the center of the village, there is the Cafe Kahnsdorf with homemade ice cream and cakes and always good-humored service.
At the port 300 m away, you can rent pedal boats, motor boats for 4-11 people (no license required) and SUPs in season. At the port, there is also a small 24-hour self-service shop where you can buy everything important for your vacation around the clock. Just behind the harbor is a small sandy beach with a swimming island. Other landscaped sandy beaches and wild swimming coves in the reed are around the lake. There you can also get to the water with dogs.
Hainer See is 560 hectares (corresponds to 500 football fields), up to 50 m deep and has bathing water quality. The shore edge path is 15 km long and 70% paved. Thus, you can also inline skate very well here. However, there are also beautiful side paths/trail trails away from the main circular path. On a headland on the eastern shore, Scottish highland cattle and a herd of Heidschnucken graze. Around the lake there are some picnic areas.
Lake Kahnsdorf in the northwest is deliberately left entirely to nature. There are no tourist facilities here.
However, those who expect larger ones such as wellness stamps, shopping or party mile are looking in vain. Although there are some larger events such as the lagoon and the Schillerfest and on weekends many Leipzig people often stroll along the promenade or vintage cars curve along the lake, but overall Kahnsdorf is rather tranquil, especially in the low season. In the afternoon, the many day trippers from Leipzig disappear again and the parking spaces empty again. If you want to have more program, there are many offers in the area, especially in Leipzig. See my tips in my guidebook in the extra button.
On the north shore, there is a small bistro with pedal car rental and the bright red coffee mobile "Barina" with super good coffee at the campsite in the season. Next to the campsite there is the wakebeach with water sports equipment rental and courses.
There are supermarkets in Neukieritzsch, Rötha, Espenhain and Borna.
Hainer See was created from a lignite pit and was flooded between 1999 and 2010. In a few years, a number of new cottages were created here and new paths and beaches were created. In addition, the Schiller and manor house including park, the heart of Kahnsdorf, was renovated. And nature goes to great lengths to the fact that the wounds of the mine are disappearing.
The neighboring towns of Espenhain and Mölbis were hard to see in the dirt of the former power plants and were considered the dirtiest places in the GDR. Between 1911 and 1990, the opencast mining around Kahnsdorf coal was funded, where 1,500 people worked in open-cast mining. According to GDR plans, the open mine should still run until 2015. The lake is named after the village of Hain, which fell victim to mining.
Fortunately, this is all a long past and one of the largest landscaping sites in the world has an impact: Kahnsdorf is now located in the middle of Leipzig's New Zealand, a region where in recent years, new lakes with beaches and harbors emerged almost every year from former penthouse buildings.
A few years ago, Oetti's cabin was the only house on the edge of Lake Hainer. It was only in recent years that the road "An der Lagune" and the other houses on the water edge were built. Unfortunately, the lagoon is nowadays quite densely built up and some new house seems very tasteless and loveless, surrounded by carports, conifer walls, man-high fences and sterile stone gardens. You can argue about tastes...
However, it is very green in the area of Oetti's vacation home. Here you have quite an unobstructed view of the water and the small forest of the historic park of the Schillerhaus reaches almost all the way to the water.
However, one thing is for sure: such a holiday landscape was here shortly after the turn, when everything was still a lunar landscape and the coal excavators ate through the countryside, no one expects! Nature is strongly committed to the fact that the wounds of the lignite mining industry are disappearing. Where sailboats sail in front of the house today, the lignite trains ran from the open mine 20 years ago and in the background the chimneys of power plants and briquette factories smelled. The last brown coal power plant is also to be shut down by 2032. At the foot of the power plant, the new energy future is already initiated with giant solar fields. Visually not exactly beautiful, but better than lignite building always...

My work: Geographer/city planner
Fun fact: Get out of the desk man to the water
I was born in 1967 and live with my family in Leipzig. I love the water and travel a lot with my gravel bike. At the gates of the city of Leipzig, the many new lakes offer plenty of space for recreation, fun and some crazy things on and in the water. After I was diagnosed with a neurological disease (dystonia) in 2016, I retired my previous office job as a city planner and crafted a new field of activity. That's how I discovered vacation home rental for myself.
The contact with nice people from near & far in vacation mode and the tinkering around the lake in self-determined mode and with wind around the nose, gives me a lot of pleasure.
I would like to share my enthusiasm from Leipzig's New Zealand, which has also accompanied me professionally for over 20 years, with people who do not yet know this area. A still young, diverse chain of lakes and in the middle of it the beautiful city of Leipzig. What more could you ask for?
