About This Listing
I offer a private serene room in a beautiful house in Silicon Valley. The room comes with a shared bathroom with tub and shower and lots of free street parking.
There is a family room and a fire place to hang out, as well as a relaxing patio and two decks for enjoyable outside seating. I am an easy going, open-minded, well-traveled person, who enjoys good company and conversations.
The house is in a quiet neighborhood in Emerald Hills. Restaurant and shops are within 2-10 minutes driving distance. I offer free wireless internet, a library with TV, and coffee or tea if needed. Please don't expect absolute perfection though, because the price reflects what expectations should be. The hotel room prices in this area are $165 per night for a single room for three-star accommodations.
I love eating out and have lots of good recommendations for ethnic restaurants on the peninsula as well as in San Francisco.
There is easy access to 280 and 101 and you are within minutes in Palo Alto/Stanford. San Francisco is a 35 - 40 minute ride by car depending on traffic. SFO is 25 minutes away and there is Caltrain access
Guests are welcome to ask me for anything they need. I'm the kind of person who has just about everything on hand - my mother always said I should open a neighborhood store! But for my Airbnb guests, I won't charge anything of course.
Obviously, as well, absolutely everything that a top hotel would provide, like comb, razor, toothbrush and toothpaste, sewing kit (am I missing anything?) will be provided, just ask.
Interaction with Guests
I interact with my guests as much as they want me to. I pride myself on having a sixth sense of what people want. A lot of the time it's privacy, so I provide a lot of quiet and privacy for my guests.
As someone who lived in Paris and Tokyo just before coming here, I love the incredible feeling of living in the countryside, yet having the most modern amenities of urban life just five minutes away. I still marvel that such luxuries actually exist. My favorite is Edgewood Park and preserve, with forests and hiking trails, just three minutes away!
There is bus and Caltrain.
Ask me to put in the wireless password for you.
Parking in front of the house costs $5 per day, but parking in the street is free and plentiful. Laundry is $5 per load.
Please, NO FOOD and NO EATING in the rooms. I don't want ant and rodent problems. You are welcome, however, to use the kitchen or the decks outside when the weather is warm.
Everything was fine; no complaints. Beautiful view into back yard, nice area, great hiking at Edgewood nature preserve 2 mi away. About 2 mi from Caltrain station, groceries, etc. Good taqueria just down the street. Only downside -- neighborhood is extremely pedestrian hostile (no sidewalks!). You'll need a car. I got by with a bike but I'm stubborn like that.
I had just been hired in the Bay area and needed a place to stay for the first week, Maylen was a very kind host and even offered to pick up anything I needed from CVS. It was a nice house, with big windows and great views. I enjoyed sitting by the windows at dinner to enjoy the view.
I had a very late arrival and an early departure, so unfortunately I wasn't able to spend much time with Maylen or her place. I can say she was very accommodating with my schedule, and gracious upon arrival. Definitely worth considering.
I enjoyed my stay here at this large quiet place with multiple decks. The host was courteous and gave me a ride to Caltrain as the walk there is two miles.
Decks galore, there are 3 levels of decking that stretches the full width of the house with a 30’ Olive tree as the centerpiece of the backyard…Great place to cool your heals, enjoying a glass of wine after a long day. Maylen is generous hosts with a caring nature, if you needed anything just ask and she’ll go the extra mile to make it happen. Thanks for accommodating me.
I'm an introvert. I got the space I needed. And got enough connection and conversation with my host to make it enjoyable
Maylen even opened a bottle of champagne one night with the other Airbnb hosts.
Felt very much at home
Thanks to the hosts and guests
I'm very responsive to my guests' concerns. I thought you were a wonderful guest even though I never saw you and got to meet you during your extremely brief stay. I sincerely wish you had expressed your concerns to me so that I could have done something about it when I had the possibility, not a month later. Also, please realize that Airbnb hosts are not businesses, they are people with feelings that would have loved to take care of you if you had given them half a chance. When you slam them in a review, it's not like a complaint in a review card that will be read by the marketing department of a five thousand employee company. It's just one person that you never even bothered to speak to and voice whatever your concern was.
