About This Listing
This sunny, cheerful, and calm room with a private bathroom is nestled in a quiet countryside-like setting minutes away from Yosemite-like hiking trails, yet it's in the middle of Silicon Valley. Available for stays over 31 days only.
I offer a private serene room in a beautiful house in Silicon Valley. The room comes with a bathroom with tub and shower. It gets lots of sun, and you are provided with bath salts and oils if you want to soak in the sun or out of it. There is lots of free street parking. If you would like off-street parking in the house parking lot, that would be $2 per day.
There is a family room and a fire place to hang out, as well as a relaxing patio and two decks for enjoyable outside seating. I am an easy going, open-minded, well-traveled person, who enjoys good company and conversations.
The house is in a quiet neighborhood in Emerald Hills. Restaurant and shops are within 2-10 minutes driving distance. I offer free wireless internet, a library with TV, and coffee or tea if needed. Please don't expect absolute perfection though, because the price reflects what expectations should be. The hotel room prices in this area are $165 per night for a single room for three-star accommodations.
I love eating out and have lots of good recommendations for ethnic restaurants on the peninsula as well as in San Francisco.
There is easy access to 280 and 101 and you are within minutes in Palo Alto/Stanford. San Francisco is a 35 - 40 minute ride by car depending on traffic. SFO is 25 minutes away and there is Caltrain access
Guests will have full access to the kitchen, deck, patio, garden, and laundry room.
Make yourself comfortable!
I never met the host. Talking to other guests, I guessed which room must be my room. The room had a distinct pet odor . . . Beware.
I've never left a negative review for anyone, anywhere. Please do not be misled by the positive reviews at all! I'm really puzzled by how bad my experience was, because there were so amny positive reviews. All I can say is, please be really, really careful and know what you're getting into. - You are sharing the home with 2 other tenants who come in and out at odd times. They live downstairs at the basement level (sort of), while you live on the main street level. - You're next to the kitchen, living room, and main door. Be prepared for noise from everyone. - Maylen herself woke me up at 3am with her noise in the kitchen. She was making a meal for herself, and it was LOUD. She also opened & closed my bedroom door while I was sleeping at night, and that woke me up too. - The tenant right downstairs watches extremely loud TV, with his windows open, and doesn't really turn it down even when you ask - The room is right next to the road, and the road noise is loud if you keep the windows open (which you have to if it's hot.) It's not a hidden side-street -- the road is a fairly main road in Redwood City - It was 95 degrees on the day I checked in. It was hot! So hot that I was sweating profusely in the bed. I asked Maylen for a fan. She said she would give it to me for $5 a day extra. I told her this seemed unfair because of how uninhabitably hot it was -- she said she was running a business, she said she was already losing money because of renting to me, and she said it wasn't her problem it was so hot. This was a pattern -- when I brought up a problem, she turned accusatory and started being untrue. - Maylen promised me a reduced rate, and gave me 4 nights for the price of two. I took her at her word. When I checked in and asked to check out after just one night (because of the issues above), I told I'd really appreciate it if she could provide ANY type of refund. She immediately responded, "I don't have to do anything for you. You already paid me." She also said, "I'm on sleeping pills, so I won't talk to you right now. Talk to me tomorrow." (She has not responded to any email, text, or phone communication from me or Airbnb since then.) - Speaking of the afore-mentioned fan, she asked me to move it to my room myself. I did so. After checking out, she accused me of "damaging her floors" because of the fan -- again, just inventing untruths. To Airbnb's credit, they heard my story, they couldn't get Maylen to budge, and they more than fully compensated me and helped me find a different home. I hope none of you has go through...
Wonderful experience for my entire summer of staying in Maylen's house. She is kind and helpful. And the house has everything I need. Definitely recommend!
