The Currawong Cottage is a beautifully restored one bedroom dwelling that sleeps a couple comfortably.
The Currawong Cottage was originally built in 1865 by the founders of Bremer Bay the Wellstead Family. The cottage was originally built as an extension for the ever growing family, they named it the “boys room” The original Wellstead Family all resided in the main Homestead which Max and his wife still live in today. As the children grew the eldest girls and boys were both set to work building their new quarters on the estate.
Over the many hard years and due to poor foundations the cottage became a ruin, as you will see in the photograph’s and paintings that hang on the walls in the cottage indicate, Max Wellstead a direct descendant who has resided on the estate all his life tediously rebuilt the cottage from the foundations up in 2006.
Today it still stands proud for now all to enjoy.
There is much history to be shared and gathered at this rare and unique part of the world. Max has dedicated his life to preserving his history with a world class museum on site for you to explore, if you are lucky he will give you a guided tour! This intriguing place must visited to understand the brilliance of our predecessors.
